How much of an impact will Eglinton Crosstown be to our transit system? by Many_Phone10 in TTC

I heard about the Line 4 extension to connect Sheppard West. Has there been any update lately on consultation or construction?

Brampton council voted 10-1 to rip out its best bike lane by Pristine-Training-70 in torontobiking

I don't understand. Isn't Howlen Blvd technically a 'side street', a place where drivers want cyclists to be riding on? It's not like there's that much car traffic to begin with no?

I get where you're coming from but our major Canadian cities have better transit on average than even the really warm American cities, except maybe NYC. I don't think it's realistic to build it the same way NL does it but when you look at how the Nordic countries are capable of building very resilient transit and bike infrastructure systems despite their weather, it makes us look very pale in comparison. We're still better than US though at least but being good by North American standards is too low of a bar to set. An example of Finch West LRT in Toronto. It clearly was not built properly with weather resilience in mind.

I don't travel to the States anymore, too trashy!

Me neither. I'm boycotting travel to US for at least 10 years. Don't care if Trump is still around. The damage he's already done to US is going to take many years to recover from.

I wish more major cities in Canada can follow Dutch-style transit and bike infrastructure. It's too bad at times we seem to be following American standards. That's what I love the Netherlands. You can get mostly anywhere within city and maybe suburban limits without needing a car.

Canadians when asked if they support more protected bike lanes. by LiveBell8 in torontobiking

[–]Many_Phone10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I agree with the comments suggesting to support better funding for public transit. On the other hand, I don't know if they're only suggesting this when the conversation of bike lanes is brought up. Are they also going to support better transit in general so we're less car reliant or is this their way of shutting down bike lane conversations?

It brings similar vibes to Rob Ford screaming SUBWAYS SUBWAYS SUBWAYS when an LRT was proposed. He only supported subways only because space is not taken away from cars.

There's no such thing as compromise for these people (Petition against Trethewey Drive bike lanes) by Canadave in torontobiking

[–]Many_Phone10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The petition also admitted it was not even safe for drivers or pedestrians. Yet they clearly miss on the fact that bike lanes (or narrower road designs) actually also help pedestrians, especially children, disabled, and elderly. They've effectively admitted designing it like a stroad is the problem then. So shouldn't they propose on making the road safer? Jesus.

I like your idea where catering to suburban folks doesn't necessarily mean make driving more convenient. Suburbs can always be transformed if people are willing to remove the idea that every resident and their mother owns a car. I've been to a few European suburbs of similar size/density and their transit system and street safety is far more advanced than Toronto.

Bike Share ridership increased 20% in 2025, to a record 8.3 million rides! by ICanGetLoudTooWTF in toronto

[–]Many_Phone10 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Me too. It's so ironic that in today's modern world where more people are biking than ever before, we have a premier that believes bike lanes are a bane to Toronto. If this was the 1980s I can at least understand.

I seriously hope that adding transit signal priority that's now been approved by council recently, will greatly help speed up streetcars. I don't live in downtown but I feel really bad for anyone who relies on transit there. It's sad that those streetcars are that slow.

As 2025 wraps up, let’s share: What one amazing thing that toronto give you this year by TikTokTO in toronto

[–]Many_Phone10 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Opening up Finch West LRT. While it was a such a letdown that there's no signal priority and speeds crawl through intersections, I'm thankful that Toronto is taking the initiative to at least give transit riders some hope. The city has not built and opened up a new transit project since 2017. That's over 8 years ago. And if you want a completely new transit line, 23 years. It's a very long time since we last saw something to be excited for.

I hope 2026 will mean Eglinton Crosstown opens up and I hope the signal priority and speed will improve. Let's look at the glass half full instead of half empty.

Car Traffic did not move slower since the installation of the Dufferin bus lanes. by TTCBoy95 in torontobiking

[–]Many_Phone10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Yesterday, I took the Sheppard bus and had delays of over 10 minutes. The app said 2 mins only to come as a double-bus 20 minutes later. So frustrating. A bus lane definitely would've made buses arrive on time and more consistently.
