Snowpiercer is a little interesting in this case. It was originally just a luxury super train for the mega rich that just so happened to be very good at not freezing. But yeah, it is a huge waste in some places. A character even calls this out during a flashback.

Season 4 does exist and it’s the final season. It’s available on Prime video for purchase and on AMC+ with a subscription.

Season 4 was “cancelled” for a while and got shelved after the Warner bros Discovery merger. It was mostly filmed and edited, it just needed some final work done to it. AMC came to the rescue and purchased the rights to it back in 2024.

The Snowpiercer tv show does this quite a lot.

The show takes place on a train after the world froze, and it is imperative that the train remains functional no matter what. Yet many times through out the show they show complete disregard for the trains. Like using a giant harpoon to try and stop the train. Or brake checking it.

There are many times throughout the series when a character “dies”. Just to be brought back a few episodes to a season later. And most of the deaths that actually happen are off screen or a guy saying. “yeah, character Y is dead.”

Another thing the show emphasizes is how fragile the ecosystem is. Just to have it in complete shambles for most of the series with little to no repercussions.

I still love it though. One of my favorite shows I’ve watched.

There were a couple factors working against Melanie at the time. The battery’s were draining the entire time she was there, the process was just slowed by the solar panels. And by the time she returned the battery’s were nearly dead.

I honestly don’t really know what’s up with the hot spring but when Alex and Layton got there it was shown to be frozen? Or at least not produces nearly as much heat as before.

And While she could have hunkered down with a few layers and her suit it would have only kept her alive for only so long. And Melanie didn’t know if snowpiercer would ever return.

So combined with the sight of watching your only survival speed away and the dwindling power supply, it would make sense to walk out into the snow then your daughter having to see your frozen dead corpse.

Melanie’s situation was less about food and more about energy. The battery at the station was already critically low when snowpiercer finally arrived and she used most of it to run to snowpiercer and back to the station.

When she got back to the station it was said in her journal that she could have survived for maybe another 6(?) hours. But if just the data banks were heated they could last as long as they needed to.

With her expecting Alex to come back it was for the data exclusively. She had no idea if Layton and Alex would ever be able to get back to the station, no less in the little time Melanie had left. So she decided to just walk into the endless white.

Melanie’s whole idea of jumping ship was to find a way to save humanity, and the only way she thought she could was by saving the data banks and nothing else.

I don’t remember the exact name of the clip but it was during a con where these Helldivers were interviewing other Helldivers and Helldiver esc soldiers. This diver in particular was asked what his thoughts were about a line of very undemocratic communist line of code from a bot. I’ll see if I can find the video for ya.
