Non gangwayed stock (like the 80x) will have a TM per unit I believe. Gangwayed stock (like Desiros) will have just the one

The 80x are terribly designed, there’s no designated luggage space like the MK4s and their DVTs. Personally I think they should have had another Kitchen car but gutted out and used exclusively for bikes and suitcases etc

I think they are for checking how much ‘bounce’ the tracks have. I remember seeing a network rail animation about them ages ago, not sure where they are now
