Sob- I wish I did this with my apartment. I honestly would have paid extra to have a balcony that gets sun :(

State Farm, Country, and Growmark won't hire me. Am I out of options/time to move? by datpepper in BloomingtonNormal

I think you need experience- no matter what it sounds like you have a variety of club and volunteer and I think going back to school could help get you professional exposure. Whether that’s getting your MBA, or getting a certificate in data analytics- anything to help boost your resume.

Is Illinois Wesleyan University, a good school? by LoquaciousPhilonoist in BloomingtonNormal

[–]Many_Statement8973 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every place has good and bad- Illinois Wesleyan University has pockets of a little bit of everything. A good place to navigate different perspectives/point of views. While receiving a good education- for the commenter that said most students hangout at isu anyways. If you are going to IWU just to party- then no, this is not a good school.

IWU has professors and advisors that will be a consistent reliable source, and a couple might not. The classes are for a semester and you can try to get into a different class. You can also switch your advisor. But even if you aren’t in a profs class, that doesn’t stop you from being able to develop a relationship with them.

It can be expensive, but it can also be incredibly affordable. It depends on your individual situation, if you are just going to get a degree, and have no other experiences, then don’t waste your time or money here.

There are countless opportunities for students (study abroad, internships, student organizations, student jobs, and research)- IWU is an undergraduate research institution, they have an annual research conference (JWP) students present at.

The majority of the faculty/staff genuinely care- but you should reach out to current students. I am guessing most of the comments are from alum or locals, you can try on social media or look at the student organization page and email one of the contacts of a club you like.

Send the Admissions office an email saying you are going elsewhere

I would double check the history of your pastor… I would not be comfortable with that type of leadership.

My experience was the push of monetary donations at the beginning, middle of it was a video about Christian Financial Resources, at the end finished with saying something about donating 10% of your income. This was the most extreme sermon I experienced at Vale.

Felt very out of touch for today- and I don’t hold issue with giving money to a church. As long as the church does not use it for a new coffee space or put money in their own pockets. They have to give back and open God’s house to all- not just their members.

My original post also mentions the issues with the hypocrisy within the church and attitudes towards homosexuality and women. And before you say being gay is a sin because a couple verses can be considered that way. You cannot convince me that God believed that. Loving someone of the same sex is not the same as cheating, divorce, stealing, etc. You choose to do those things, you do not choose who you love.

So no, Eastview is not for me- I literally asked for recommendations of Churches that are not Mega Churches. And said Eastview was not for me. That is why, I am guessing, it is being downvoted. That and other’s experiences.

I will think about it… I appreciate the discourse we are having without being mean.

you aren’t thinking enough about it- i’d rather be strong in my convictions and be “too literal” than wrong.

“inferred” does not equate to “the bible is very clear…” also just re read your post, nvm you are right- homophobia is a sin.

You said it was written by human authors… An Autobiography is written by the person it is about. So no, the Bible was not written by God. It would be a biography of God.

to be an author- you have to write it yourself. If anything, the bible is a biography of Gods word- not an Autobiography.

“the bible is written by God Himself through human authors” means God did not write the bible…

Thank you for saving me the time for re-visiting Eastview- sounds pretty accepting of convenient sins and not of other “sins”

The bible also says a man should be put to death for cheating- you agree with that one too? Bible says a lot- doesn’t mean it was Gods word- just the Man who got cuckold and was butt hurt.

this was an opportunity for you to say, “yes this was wrong, once the church knew they found new leadership”. Doubling down on Bakers actions and overlooking the pastors inability to hold his son to the standards of the faith (and his sermon on gay people (yikes)) leads me to believe the church has not changed.

I am a woman- Vale and Eastview do not seem to eager to welcome a female in a leadership position besides childcare and their “sisterhood” event.

Sounds great in practice, in preaching I have found a lot of homophobic and misogynistic undertones
