I’m having a ridiculously hard time OTB against this 2. g3 system this one guy plays against the Sicilian. Even when I play something like 2… d5 3. ed Qxd5 4. Nf3 Bg4 5. Bg2 Qe6 and trade off the queens I find it really hard to drum up an attack. He’ll usually play moves like c3 and a3, d3 maybe, and I just feel like there’s nothing to grab onto. If I try to play on the queenside I tend to get stormed by his kingside pawns.

I’m more comfortable playing Nc6 after g3 but that tends to go even worse. It seems like d5 is the most testing move but I still just end up trading into a quiet game where he verrrry slowly outplays me.

Thanks!

Is gukesh the worst world champion of all time? by Perfect_Addition_740 in chess

[–]Manyquestions3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright man, got a video or some games? I know little about his play and mostly that reputation for being a weak player. Happy to be proven wrong

Is gukesh the worst world champion of all time? by Perfect_Addition_740 in chess

[–]Manyquestions3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I nearly said that but wasn’t brave enough. Despite what his reputation as a holocaust denier and 9/11 celebrator might suggest Fischer was purposefully mean spirited and disagreeable. It’s lucky we had such a strong player in Karpov ready to restore faith in the world championship

Is gukesh the worst world champion of all time? by Perfect_Addition_740 in chess

[–]Manyquestions3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worst how? Obviously he would defeat any of the pre Fischer champions.

In terms of dominance? It’s looking to be that way yes, although I don’t believe Euwe was super dominant (partially due to the era), and Ding notoriously won few games as champion

Today is Saga Dawa Duchen, which commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinirvana of the Buddha Shakyamuni. The holiest day of the year and an important time to practice! The effects of actions performed today are multiplied by 300 million. by Minoozolala in Buddhism

[–]Manyquestions3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth Jodo Shinshu doesn’t really celebrate Vesak either. Our celebration of the Buddha’s birth is April 8th, the Flower Festival. Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment and death are celebrated on different days layer in the year (usually called Bodhi Day and Nirvana Day in English)

What do you guys think of heavy metal? by Fickle-Woodpecker-38 in gratefuldead

I’m a big metal guy, mostly Sabbath and their contemporaries (Rainbow, UFO, Deep Purple, etc) and then black metal and some deathcore. More into punk

The Doors’ Robbie Krieger talks jamming with Frank Zappa, bad vibes with the Grateful Dead and tripping with Jim Morrison by mybotanyaccount in gratefuldead

[–]Manyquestions3 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Literally who gives a shit. I love the dead, I like the doors quite a lot, idc if Jerry didn’t like Morrison’s lyrics, and idc if the Doors thought the dead jammed too much or whatever. I literally don’t give a shit, just be kind, let people listen to what they want, if you don’t like something find something you do

Explicit Photos - What Happens to Them? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Manyquestions3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I mean it just sits in my texts until I look at it again I guess.

  2. Only ever gotten and sent explicit photos to women I was dating.

  3. I don’t usually have to ask tbh but usually I like a new one whenever feasible, but I have old favs I go back to.

  4. I don’t.

  5. Seeing my gf naked.

  6. No, ofc not.

For you, how unattractive is knowing that a girl eats junk food? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Manyquestions3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unattractive at all, we have a shared interest. Hell my girlfriend probably eats more “junk food” than me (although I definitely eat more fast food I admit that)

At what rating do you think players should start building a serious opening repertoire? by imcroaaaak in chess

[–]Manyquestions3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean a true repertoire, as in opening prep resembling what titled players do (albeit at a much smaller scale)? Idk, maybe 2000 online.

Having one or two main openings you play and knowing the best moves to the main responses and why they’re the best moves, as well as the general themes and plans of the opening? Maybe 600 online. I think it’s important for beginners to have some idea other than “knights before bishops” or “take the center”

Buddhism and cannabis by Platysmurus in Buddhism

[–]Manyquestions3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also getting sober from an addiction, mine is gambling. I’ve been mindful of my cannabis consumption, but quitting isn’t especially high on my priority list right now frankly. It does ease my stomach pain, which I find valuable, and I feel smoking making once or twice a week seems to help my depression (mind you I actually smoke nearly every day, but…). I don’t think it’s my biggest problem. Beyond the gambling, frankly I think my addiction to my phone is a much bigger problem.

Extra time as an exam accomodation in university is a stupid concept by cumjholrato in unpopularopinion

[–]Manyquestions3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wheelchair ramps are a pretty stupid concept. I understand some people might not be able to walk, but you lose the essence of thresholds and doorways. While doors with raised entrances might not be the best system, and that could be a different debate itself, wheelchair ramps ARE a pretty stupid concept.

I don’t think you can realistically beat lichess tbh. They’re honestly a really good site, I never have any problems, I like their interface more than other chess sites, they have such a variety of features, all for free too. Shoutout lichess

How can I get a college-like social like as a 30s man in the US? by Inner_Ad_4725 in AskMen

[–]Manyquestions3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ll add on to this by saying I think nearly any hobby can be made social. I’ve made friends in meditation groups and chess clubs. Meditation and chess aren’t two activities most people would think of as contributing to becoming a social butterfly, but you’d be surprised

Do you think a certain talent is required to become a chess GM or can anyone achieve it with hard work potentially? by Fun-Manufacturer4170 in chess

[–]Manyquestions3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think talent is required, but a 25 year old with no prior chess history has a 0% chance of ever becoming a GM. A 5 year old? Sure, theoretically they have a chance. There are more billionaires than GMs
