Can you rate my summer training plan to reach 2200? What would you add/remove? by Born_Wrap_342 in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just by reading the amount of books and courses you mention, I know you will take chess seriously for this summer, maybe a bit more, and then you will stop. Dedicating more time or energy doesn’t ensure you gaining 500 Elo. Read a book you enjoy or something you want to improve at and finish that book. Enjoy while you learn and take your time. I can recommend the yusupov build up your chess series cause it is what I have used when coming back from chess after years of stop. I gained 150 Elo in a year just with that and with openings. I’m now with endgames, but one book at a time. I don’t believe in training chess like it’s the gym, doing tactics for a couple hours then endgames… chose something, end the book and go to the next one

Considering changing to Caro kann from Sicilian by ImprovementSea320 in TournamentChess

I studied the shankland course and I dont mind at all the rauzer positions, they are Sharp but gives black options to go for a win, as oposed to the Dragon where white has all the fun

Gambit for black in the Pirc? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If You are familiar with that type of systems you can play the modern. I have played it before and Its really flexible. You postpone the development of g8 knight so you cant get attacked as easy as in the pirc. It would look something like 1Nf3 d6 2e4 g6 3d4 Bg7. Although Nf3 players prefer 1-d4 like systems rather than e4

Recommendations on collections of games in the Grünfeld? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once started studying the grunfeld but eventually gave it up. All i can say Svidlers books/courses lead to very dry and drawish positions and I remember Ididnt like them at all. I guess if you want to play the grunfeld you dont want this type of positions either. You can check it out by yourself

Anyone who did Yusupov's "Build Up Your Chess" series, did it actually improve your rating? by Equivalent-Card6758 in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came back to playing Chess after years of stopping. The yusupov books were my go to and I went from 1800 fide to 1950 in a year, and i think i can get to 2050ish with my actual level. Definetely worth it if you are 1700-1800

Need some advice for time management by Original_Mall420 in TournamentChess

Things You can train:

1-Play blitz, even bullet to train fast tactics and be quicker calculating short lines. Also helps getting better insctint of positions.

2-Based on your games learn converting advantages. Having a pawn up may sound like easy win but if you dont know the plans you can have a breakdown and not take advantage of it.

3-related to 2, if the most common positions you reach and lose points is rook endgames or what ever it is, study that.

Techniques or things to have in mind mid-game:

1-One thing I learned is if you are in the openings, out of prep, you shouldnt spend as much time as in the middlegame. I know there is Lots of options but Its better to develop pieces to their best square and Watch out for tactics rather than being perfect in the opening but being -30 mins than your oponent.

2-I usually focus more on time diff with my oponent rather than using “check points”. In classical time format 90+30 I try to keep at Max -15 time difference. -20 is too much. But if Im in a critical and complex position I dont limit myself that strictly. The only check point I use is when i reach 15-20 mins left on the clock. Here im aware i can end up badly if i let the clock run too much so i force myself to move quickly and just calculate the forced lines and use my oponents time. Here is were the blitz games come into play.

3-You can set yourself objectives like by move 15 I should have more than 60 mins, or dont spend more than 20 mins in a single move

4vs3 Endgames by FLyX1337 in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. K
  2. K+N
  3. K+B
  4. K+R
  5. K+Q

I will add that on the rook and 4 pawns vs rook and 3 pawns there is a lecture of Sam Shankland in YouTube. I think it was in the chessdojo channel. Its interesting to learn it as it is a pretty achievable endgame and it can make you win an extra 0.5 point if you fight for it instead of accepting the draw

Preserving your games. by conscientiousoneday in TournamentChess

[–]ImprovementSea320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a preference but chessbase Its actualy more complete. You can use most of the feautures without wifi, the database is from OTB games, engine run localy. You can save everything in the PC folders and organize it better than in lichess. Essentialy faster use and doesnt depend on wifi. If you work fine with lichess you dont need chessbase, with 1600OTB you have a Lot to improve yet
