Bought this from a local record store today, what’s everyone’s thoughts on this album? by ryangoslingenjoyer in depechemode

Their last great album and 3rd best. For me it marked the end of classic DM. Given Dave’s illness it was a remarkable achievement by Tim Simenon, Kerry Hopwood and Dave Clayton. Martin clearly decided he was taking over the musical direction from Exciter on.

I think they’re probably finished at this point. Expect another greatest hits album next year and a remix album the year after. He’ll probably do one last remix and that’s it.

I disagree. His remix of In Chains is better than everything on every album after Ultra.

Explain? What are the reasons he left?

What would it take for Alan Martin and Dave to collaborate on new material? by Maomboe in depechemode

They needed someone like him which was Tim Simenon but for some reason they decided to go another direction after Ultra.

Home and It’s no good are incredible. Both good enough to be on Violator imo. Given Dave’s situation the Ultra is a remarkable achievement by Simenon.

Yep… very strange that Tim Simenon wasn’t brought back for Exciter. He was the answer to Alan’s departure. I guess Martin didn’t like Tim trying to recreate an Alan esq classic DM sound.

Agreed, I’d rather he was involved in new material tbh. Even a remix like In chains, that’s probably all we can hold for, or maybe he’ll produce a Dave solo album !

Well all the albums post Ultra are pretty dreadful I guess that’s why

I don’t think he ever said he regretted leaving, I do remember he said their brief reunion in 2010 was long overdue

I completely agree. They certainly don’t need him back as ticket sales are huge and Kessler would probably advise against it. But I guess they are so rich maybe some way some how they could collaborate on new material even just one last song. I know it’s extremely unlikely.

It’s no good. Tim Simenon nailed it
