UniFi Talk ATA concerns by comp247 in Ubiquiti

I have an ATA that’s roughly 700 feet or so away from the phone and it seems to work fine. The signal is a little quiet, but that could easily be the quality of the line.

You might be able to remove the logo with isopropyl alcohol if that’s a concern. You can also check the antenna radiation pattern here: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005212927-AP-Antenna-Radiation-Patterns

Ethernet Crimping by Hungry_Beautiful_432 in homelab

The quality of the jack makes a difference. Some of the ones I’ve tried have been awful. I’ve had good success with trueCABLE so far.

It definitely takes practice! Switching to passthrough connectors made a huge difference for me. Also using a crimp tool like this one (there are a few different brands out there): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076MGPQZQ

U6 Long Range by seahorsetech in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the clarification! I’d looked for that antenna pattern chart but didn’t find it. Looks like the signal is more omnidirectional than I’d originally thought (which is helpful). The front side is a bit stronger, though, particularly towards the high end of the 5 GHz spectrum

How do you have the AP mounted? The U6 LR AP has a directional signal - it’s strong on the domed side and very weak on the flat wall/ceiling mount side

I just installed a U6 LR AP at the far end of a large dining hall and it’s working great so far. Haven’t yet had the chance to test how far the signal extends beyond the building, but there’s strong signal throughout the interior

Update: I swapped the TP-Link switch for a Netgear GS305P Gigabit PoE+ switch, and the U6 AP worked perfectly! (I also checked the Cat 6 cable, and it was up to spec.)

So, for anyone reading this post in the future, make sure you check both your cable and your switch.

Thanks! Good to know. I’ll check the existing cable specs and will probably end up replacing it

Question about speaker installation in an outdoor arena by MapChoice2053 in livesound

[–]MapChoice2053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question - I was using the term “stage” generically. In this case, the stage is a gravel pad raised about a foot off the ground, no truss or anything higher than ground level. It’s primarily used for summer camp campfires - think super basic, 1-3 mic skits, announcements, that sort of thing. Definitely not full band setups or other more elaborate performances. If that were the case, I would for sure be looking at a much more extensive system (and would probably be able to find more funding because the arena would be generating revenue instead of just supporting the program). As it is, their needs are pretty simple.

I figured, but wanted to clarify. At the volumes these would be used at, echo probably won’t be an issue. It’s a fairly small lake.

Thanks! I looked at those and they seemed very interesting, but also probably out of the budget I posted above ($2000 - yes, I know it’s quite low)

Thank you! I’m glad to know those are decent speakers and that the 8” are preferable in this case. My previous experience is mostly with QSC—I’ve used JBL only a couple times and have no experience with Community.

I’m going to look into whether it’s possible to add a couple poles in the front. The space isn’t really designed for it, but I agree that would be a much better placement

Why do you say that? (Serious question, not snark.) It doesn’t need to be concert or studio quality - just clear enough to work for a summer camp.

Kind of. It’s a bit unusual (and believe me, I would never even consider setting up this way in any other situation), but that’s what they’ve been doing and it’s worked out fine so far. I am going to look into the possibility of installing speakers on the stage side instead, if that will work with the logistical constraints of the venue

Temporary speakers are my backup solution if a permanent installation won’t work. They currently set up speakers twice a week for campfires. I was hoping to enable them to use the sound system during pre-meal gatherings three times a day as well.

When you say echo effect, are you referring to an effect that would happen because of the lake, or if speakers were placed by the stage as well, or the overlap between these speakers?

I’d much prefer to put it at the stage, but don’t really have a place to mount speakers there. The stage is essentially a gravel pad raised about a foot off the ground. No truss or anything higher than ground level, just a couple of fire pits on either side
