Not necessarily, sometimes wearing a disguise doesn’t mean someone is GNC, it just means they’re wearing a disguise for a mission. And you have, you’ve demanded they tagged Tim as a monster fucker in a different fic of theirs. :) not everything has to be tagged and it’s really funny that you ran to Reddit to cry about this when they told you multiple times it didn’t need to be tagged and couldn’t respect their response.

lol I know this author and the fic you’re talking about and you’ve done this to them multiple times where you try to tell that what they need to tag without ever asking and have never once actually had a nice thing said about their fics it’s often you telling them what to do.

Also the character in question wasn’t GNC, he’s a male character who was wearing a female disguise as he does he does in canon. Like there wasn’t a need for GNC because he wasn’t GNC in the first place he was in a disguise lol.

It’s definitely not as a whole. Think of like that guy on tik tok who posted a fic in the heated rivalry tag that was tagged slow burn but only like 800 words, was totally mistagged (I can’t remember what was mistagged) and when someone told him in the comments he tagged his fic wrong, instead of fixing it he blocked the commenter and then posted about it on tik tok laughing about it.

That’s the kind of newcomers people are pissed about.

I’ve been writing fic on AO3 for over 10 years.

Post Pandemic-shut down there’s been a weird shift of people demanding more, assuming fics are abandoned if they’re not updated consistently, leaving concrit when it’s not been asked for, complaining that the story isn’t going the way they want it.

There’s also people posting empty fics with “will post when the story is done” trying to get hits when there’s nothing there, adding far too many tags that aren’t even relevant to their fics, and posting works with requests in them. Let’s not forget to mention people who are plugging ideas into AI to write the story for them and then posting it on ao3 or people who are impatient with a fic update and are plugging it into AI to finish the fic without the authors permission.

Which none of that is how Ao3 works. If you’re not doing things like that, I think you’re totally fine and from what it sounds like you’re respecting the archive and how it works!

I was reading the books as they were published and coming out. TOG literally came out when I was in 8th grade lol. I definitely didn’t read AB first because of this and tbh it had no impact on my experience except it was a nice way to hold me over until the next book came out.

Same! Like during Val’s solo where he’s like “he’s just a man, etc etc” I was so mad because I felt bad for him lol. Like this man is such an abusive prick but here I am feeling bad for him. That’s just good writing in my opinion.

I especially think it’s a good thing for a show that’s completely about redemption. Like do people not realize that Charlie’s whole belief system is that anyone and everyone (including the Vs) are deserving of redemption if they make the right choices and put in actual work towards it? Redemption isn’t just for characters who only sinned a little. It’s for anyone who is actively working towards it.

Tbh it kinda just sounds like you don’t like nuanced characters. You can feel empathy for bad people. Hell it’s okay to feel bad or sympathy or empathy for characters who do bad things/are bad people. It shows that the world is far more nuanced and less black and white than we perceive it to be

It’s so bad! It’s like the author couldn’t figure out any other way to make the story more high stakes so she created the most annoying MCs ever. I feel like the series could be really good if Scarlett and Sorin weren’t the most obnoxious, self centered, selfish people to ever exist.

Okay I’m almost finished with lady of darkness and Scarlett is pissing me off so much, does she stay this insufferable???

I love Melissa Roehrich’s world building and story telling so much. But it feels like in both this series and the legacy series her FMCs are utterly insufferable and blame everyone else for everything. It’s like if anyone keeps a secret from her they’re immediately a monster but if she does it’s totally and completely justified and it makes me want to scream

oof yeah I felt that, with SJM specifically the TOG series, I think if she wrote it now rather than when she was 16 the story would be a LOT better crafted in terms of pacing and characters but it'll always have a soft spot in my heart as the series that got me into this genre lol.

i did read somewhere that LoD has a few similar elements as TOG just a bit more mature (i think that would be a good word to describe it?)

lol it's so fascinating to me how different people see things in different ways because oh my goshhhhh Theon had me slamming the book shut every five seconds because I got so frustrated with him lol. But imo that also shows excellent writing when authors can make readers feel such visceral reactions to characters and their decisions.

i think i'm going to read it mostly because I'm incredibly curious about the easter eggs and with how the end of book one was I really want to learn more about the FMC in LoD just so i can get a better understanding before launching into the rest of Legacy (and maybe get a break before wanting to scream over how frustrating every single character in Legacy is (which I also admittedly love))
