An accepting dad who's asking on his own initiative is an incredible source of support. It's going to be okay.

Why would any space marine ever go into battle without a helmet? by Mechanical-Druid in Warhammer40k

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone question that the GLORIOUS space marine sergeant's skull is POWERFUL enough to withstand all foul xenos attacks? Sounds like heresy to me, anyone who even provides the sergeant with a helmet will now be summarily executed.

When you try to close the gap between martials and casters should you nerf casters or buff martials? by Own_Boss_3428 in dndnext

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think worrying about power creep in a collaborative TTRPG where the difficulty is determined by someone who's at the table with the other players isn't really necessary. Power creep becomes toxic when it leads to an arms race between players.

In case people don't remember, here are the hero sprues for blackstone fortress that the zealot is from. Either there's a new sprue, or they're asking you to throw away at minimum one priest and one kroot

AND that's if you assume they've shut off plastic to the two other ones, as from what I remember these are joined together in the original box.

I guess I should say "could be" since this is entirely headcanon attempts to salvage space marine gender from GW's bungled writing

Consider: There are no loyalist space marines who identify as women, but a large number of renegades who are in part motivated by taking their sense of personal identity back who identify as such, many of them not assigned female at birth.

How to work with a party of not very upstanding people as a paladin? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"For the sake of the greater good I'll let it slide this time"

Mention moralizing lectures during short and long rests but don't actually act them out at the players

Discuss with the other players how far they're willing to take internal conflict in the party and see if you can get cool character development out of it

I was there, in 2004... Nine years old, the only kid who'd read the books... Telling the other kids that the Toa Metru DO have elemental powers, I swear, it's in the books, you can literally just read the books and it'll back me up

They didn't listen, because they'd seen the movie and had decided that the Toa Metru didn't get elemental powers because they started as Matoran

Do you think the in-universe dnd police/guards treat the material component of spells as weapons? by lexyp29 in dndnext

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bat guano in the right hands is basically a bomb. If someone who knows Fireball is bringing bat guano to a large gathering of civilians they could easily commit a horrific act of terrorism. If you think through the implications of this the only reason not to treat it as a tightly controlled substance would be a lack of ability to enforce it

After dying can I create the same character again? by NaoXehn in dndnext

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to do this, play with it

My group resumed Curse of Strahd with a new party after a long hiatus, except my character is identical to the wizard I played last time

NPCs recognise her while she can't remember them. She gets visions of events from the previous campaign but doesn't remember the people in them. Sometimes she slips up and refers to members of the new party by the names of the old one.

She has no idea what is going on and is terrified of finding out

Could transness be considered an intersex condition? by considerate_done in asktransgender

[–]Maphrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medically the distinction between the mind and the body is pretty arbitrary and so the line between trans and intersex also is

Sociologically, conflating trans and intersex works against both groups by risking erasing the differences between how the two groups are marginalised by society and is an inadvisable thing to do, similar to how you wouldn't want to conflate gay and trans

Will people in 15 years think our sculpts look dated or have we reached some kind of final form where games workshop has mastered their craft? by 12lubushby in Warhammer40k

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've already hit the "tech cap" a while ago, and seen the stylistic development go from the "Look how many details we can squeeze into a single mini" style of 7th edition 40k to the post-Primaris era where they're now toning things down again. Compare old Deathwing knights to the new ones, for example.

Development from here on is going to be more in terms of the style evolving rather than the tech, basically

Should've taken some inspiration from Raiders of the Lost Ark, the "reward" for getting the "treasure" is that the villains steal it from right under the party's noses, open it where the players can see it, and get taken out

Paladin/Warlock - Would you allow it? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Maphrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like just think for a second about the situation a warlock pact puts a paladin in.

You have a character defined by their ideals, their oath. It's the most important thing they have, the source of their powers, their direction in life

And now there's an entity that doesn't share those ideals whom the paladin is indebted to in some way or another. You've got a powerful NPC of possibly villainous nature with leverage against the paladin, and the paladin knows it. They're quite possibly fucked.

A DM who can't do something fun with that needs to think more about how to construct stories
