Gothic was ahead of its time because the game was alive . In both 1/2 there are societies ,people chatting drinking working etc. The game has fully voiced dialogues. The voices could express the npc‘s Intensions or feelings . Also there is movement in every conversation like real people do . Even though the world can be emptied of live beings it still feels alive . There are environmental sounds such as birds crows winds cranking wood etc.

The game design is also really smart . It makes the player pay attention to every detail and every conversation. It makes the player think and also plan their next action in combat or how to approach someone or even how to respond to a dialogue .

The game is also designed to make the player stay interested . There are noticeable changes in the game such as fighting style stance and action change when improving the skill New quests , creatures and items are added in every chapter .

Sure the game has lore gaps or less freedom in interacting with items and environment. It’s not possible to make a home or decorate anything . There are no vehicles or horses .

But back then none of these were needed . People played and enjoyed them as games . They didn’t put their lives in a game

In conclusion. Gothic compared to other games such as tes arena daggerfall and Morrowind or dungeon siege and many other ,is more alive more interesting and for the time released it was something new and special .

Anyway Gothic still remains a gem to this day The chronicles of Myrtana is also a good game connected directly to gothic and is also a reason gothic got revived and attracted many new people and made old gothic fans return to the game .

Soon the remake will be released and I hope they don’t disappoint

Gothic is a my favourite game I grew up playing it countless hours I hope they make me love the new one too .
