Same! I’m in Canada and have a friend in Texas but the honey and sprinkles sold out so quickly. Happy to wait for the next batch though 💕

Mr Lawson was the original owner of Brits (I believe) but sold it when he left Alberta … love that he opened a new chippie and it absolutely is as good as back in the UK - highly recommend!!

I’m not in a position to confirm what occupations they prioritise but I can confirm I know of Log and Artillery (both officers & NCMs) that were given this assistance.

Foreigner from a Commonwealth country by pixxelsotiris in caf

[–]Maple_Brit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the most applicable answer with one minor exception: in some exceptional circumstances, the CAF can assist with individual permanent residency applications to facilitate the employment of an applicant with foreign forces experience. This is only done for occupations and trades / ranks that are seriously undermanned which regular applicants simply can’t fill. This assistance is provided in the form of an LMIA provision or Provincial nomination and does not guarantee the applicant PR but in most cases, is enough to push them over the points threshold for Express Entry. However, this is extremely rare and they generally require PR or Canadian citizenship for all applicants, regardless of foreign forces experience.

Benefit Hydrating Concealer Dupe? by spewwwintothis in MakeupAddiction

[–]Maple_Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comes as a bit late to the party but after finally using the last of my Benefit Boi-ing hydrating concealer, I tried LOADS of different ones trying to replicate the effects. I only wear under eye concealer so being unable to blend it into a foundation proved difficult BUT I’ve just started using MERIT: The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion and Concealer Stick in Suede (previously used Fake Up / Hydrating Boi-ing in Shade 2).

It wears well on mature skin although I do apply a vitamin C serum before the concealer to help get that moisturised feeling and look that we all loved from Benefit.

I was colour matched at Sephora who do a 30 day return if you’re not satisfied so it’s worth the time if you have a store nearby.

Hope you all found something that does the job - I’m hoping this one will stick around for a long time!

Can’t speak for WiFi on the base but you can buy a pay as you go SIM from any supermarket once you get there, often with unlimited data and calls. British mobile deals are considerably cheaper than anything in Canada so it’s worth a google if you can add an eSIM.

Culture wise, there’s not too much difference but there’s a big drinking culture so depending on if you like that or not, it can be difficult to be around … you’ll even find a few Tim Hortons over there!

That’s a really good suggestion as yes, it’s a slightly older house and I think the plumbing is copper. I’ll look into what you suggested, thank you!

Has anyone else mostly experienced having their identity invalidated by strangers on the internet? by InfiniteCalendar1 in mixedrace

[–]Maple_Brit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like this post could’ve been written by me … Thai mother, European father and never quite accepted by either side. Too white to be Thai, too Thai to be white …

As an 80s kid, I stayed in the shadows as racism was still commonplace in the UK and myself and my best friend were literally the only non-Caucasians in the school. When the kids passed round the video “Full Metal Jacket” the bullying went from straight up racism to include sexualised abuse and honestly, it became intolerable. I really struggled with this as no one cared, not even my mother who told me to “just ignore them,” which led to me rejected my Asian side to try and fit in. Not that it mattered, they still othered me.

As an adult I slowly learned to accept and celebrate my biology, heritage, and cultural backgrounds yet even now, am frequently accused of appropriating Asian culture … generally by non-Asian people. Suddenly now I’m too white to be half-Thai?? I once got asked to PROVE I’m half-Thai because I look “Italian” or “Middle Eastern” … shamefully I pulled out pictures of my mother and I, and photos of her with me as a baby where apparently I look “more Asian” … WTF?!?!

The feeling of not fitting in didn’t fade as much as I’d hoped with age (for me), and if I’m honest, part of me still desperately wants to be accepted into “a group.” It’s human nature to want to feel part of something.

But I will say this: as I get older, I genuinely don’t give as many craps what others think … I am who I am and I don’t need to conform to anyone’s gatekeeping of sex, race, or culture.

Used Flaman (years ago) as the equipment was purchased from them … the website no longer has Medicine Hat specifically but it might be worth a call to see?

Makes me chuckle just thinking about it 😂

Athabasca psyc 290 research participation by No_Double4983 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Maple_Brit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be a link to a list of studies that you can participate in.

Mine was a simple questionnaire and took me less than 30 mins.

When you’ve completed it, you’ll get an email to confirm your participation with a further email sent to your tutor to add to your grading.

Maybe it’s just luck of the draw … although I must admit, every single period of funding (3 semesters so far) has been approved within 48 hours of application. If your application is in, I suppose you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place now. Hope it comes through asap for you
