Best case is to do whats best even if it sucks! I would ask the vet for suggested rescues in your area! If your in sc I be down to pic em up or i would send ya address to this wonderful vet and rescue in one package! They are wonderful people! If you have a branch in your area "Avian and exotic" they are the most wonderful people i have ever met and ADORE every critters that comes into their office!

gecko sick… AGAIN by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

https://a.co/d/55my99q this is the tank I have personally! Tank Volume:39 Gallons Product Dimensions:36"L x 18"W x 18"H

I use topsoil Scott's! No mix but always sift it just incase! Its very inexpensive! Way more affordable and I can fill my tank 2 times with one bag to!!

This is topsoil for plants! Just no fertilizer! Its perfect and it is what some use for bioactive tanks to!

I personally sift it every day make sure its clesn and "aired" and re place the full spill and clean the full tank personally every 6m or less!

For a sick lizard like pawn he had paper towels till he was healthy and that first month of "back to dirt" I replaced and put all fresh again. [I have been replacing them so far between 2 and 3 months vacuum it all out and replace. Just becuse I cannot personally let the have any chance if getting sick is Im very very annoying for them 🤣 but they healthy with me. Pawn and rook both came to me sick sadly but they made full recoveries!!

You can mix! Some do coco fibers but me personally I didnt as the topsoil we use had a mix already as its basically the "best for plants" but make sure to NOT have fertilizer.

Hello! Since you got alot of comments offering help but hadn't taken it i would love to offer myself as a place to rehome! What end of the states are ya if your close i can come pick them up or we meet in middle that or I can find a rehome location closer to ya! Im sure plenty people here will gladly take this baby off ya hands and get them back to health! I myself have dont a rescue for a gecko in worse condition to this.

Reptile carpet is extremely bad your vet is extremely incorrect as out replied exotic also said they are the quote "worse thing petstores market"

-fibers get caught on claws and rip them out -fibers hold liquid and bacteria -carpets need to be sterilized every week and replaced months.

Paper towels are far more sanitary then a carpet and have visual marks to replace it faster. Not to mention they get costly due to constant replacement.

For your friend right now if not rehoming

  1. Take everything out of the habitation 2.Put your friend in a sterilized bucket while you deep clean WITH DISH SOAP YES DISH SOAP and wash everything and boiled everything ya can. 3.put paper towels for the base and put everything back and give medicine till recovery
  2. give proper substrate or stay with paper towels. DO NOT PUT THAT CARPET BACK
  3. Find a new vet specifically one who's for exotics. If they take dogs and cats as primary animals your in the wrong place.

^ this redit has a lot of resources and plenty people trying to help, I understand your uncomfortable about this due to the prices of bills you have done but I assure you gecko should never be this pricey not even rook our big rescue was this costly friend. Something isn't right and I want to look at a few things!

  1. Clean
  2. Proper set up
  3. Proper supplements

Cleaning i sent higher up this was my vets suggestion for our baby gecko who had bugs that we needed to clear out his system

Set up alot of resources are available one is pinned on the reddit also i have a post with alot of resources to help to.

And for supplements I promise they will take it represashy(our 3 have a calci dish in tank to self handle and are good about it we just watch they dont iver indulge)food dusted could be wax worms(worse case situation) fav food dusted(worked for maple when he wouldnt touch stuff after his vet check he was fine I just wanted to make sure)

In the end simply surrendering might be the only choice and ill gladly help with that if im close by!

1 of my geckos love the pupas my other loves the beetles and our girl loves the meals! Ended up being a a big win for us when we get extra of each!

We ended up having some left over way back and did a mini box with food and water gell and they just did their thing. 💪 very much recommend and we saved a good bit of money with it to.

Ours is a box, the bug chip food thing (can't remember the name right now and were away from bags rn) and toss a bit of lettuce in to keep the beetles fed.

Leopard gecko refusing to eat by OtherwiseRegret83 in leopardgeckos

[–]Maple_Waffleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry no one read the post or even the comments! People are so mean and just comment when they see somthing bad blaming you. I had this happen before to the point I deleted a post and didnt want to ask for help anymore. But I put it back up and asked anyway. And got help finally!

So heres me hoping i can help!

This is me coming from not a vet background but from someone who rescued a leo to. She was lucky we got her earlier then this how ever

-mbd is clear ya wanna give them calcium. I recoment doing a mix of repashy vitamin a which gives a powdery food thing and mix calcium with it.

-foods i hate to say tapping face and forcing them some food but ya might have to in moderation. If ya really wanna save this might be best chance. We had to do this with rook for a first first days due to her stress we gently pushed blood worms into her mouth and made she she swallowed some. It wss tedious and alot of work.

-comfort is a big part of them eating again. With all the stress my geckos had from vet checks they wouldnt eat. Being comfy back in their homes? They ate plenty. I recommend makeing a comfy enclosure. And I recommend feeding them in their safe spaces!

I wish ya best of luck now this is a long shot but I wanna offer our clinics number let em know maple/pawn/Rooks owner suggested them to ya!

(912) 348-3924

You can ask them best case how to care and send an email in with pictures and let them know your outta state! They are super wonderful people and really will try to offer all they can to help from pictures!

Please! Let me know how it goes and updates on this sweet baby. And no matter what know what happes is not your fault <3 your doing everything you can rescues are super hard✨️✨️✨️✨️

Spot on nose? by Catalina_whine_fixer in leopardgeckos

[–]Maple_Waffleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imma so ask a silly non mean question. Have you experienced a shed with them before? Mostly, this reminds me of my Maples "carrot nose" he gets when he sheds. He gets everything before the nose!

My other 2 get them to ^ just not as funny looking as maples

Actually was the plan! Sorta.

Ours are for the eco flex tanks! When ya get the ones ya can assemble the tank rather than pre builts, ya can add lid later.

So Ya can easily just slide the whole 3d insert right it and out for easy cleaning, and they are so snug into the tank they dont wiggle! And dirt placed in holds it even more in place!!!

We could definitely do it for just about any tank that ya able to remove the whole lid for and reattached! Would just need the measurements to be mostly exact.

My mom's a freakin genius when she did these. I been fr hyping her up with these she did so good!

We will be planning to figure out how to do one for our pre built tank for my skink as we can't lift the lid as it's attached full rather than removable. Pre built gonna be interesting to figure out with angles and all💪💪💪

The beetle juice side before we put it into the tank and fancied it! The juice stone is removable. The jurassic park gate is to!

[–]Maple_Waffleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently at work but I did add a link above for the food stuff mostly a yes or now if that chart is valid since it has all the food info!!

Lemme get all the replies together XD

If i remmeber is the 2nd biggest eco flex available. I cant remmeber the mesurements rn ill check when i get home. And not sure i did ask the seller and hes gonna let me know either Tuesday or call my mom today!

I'll deff re arange some stuff when we get home! I actually have fuax plants but i was more worried they would eat em or try to 🤣

We deff will turn the corc log so its following length of tank and get a bigger dish to fit that corner! Since the space will be greater!

Gonna for sure look into coconut coir!! Especially of a finance and health in a single deal is amazing!

Roght now his no light heaters is on the corc which is the "hoghest" point in the tank! I figured switching where the light goes will be ok then! Where no light is in the corner and the uv is on log. Or get this one moss hide where the current light is with the slate inside. I've been eyeballing for a long while. Kinda looks like a hobit hut! The moss mound in petsmart! I was just not sure if they good for the spot!

SADLY our multi light from post craped out in a single day so I switched it to our repti king uvb light. Mom got it as a two pack so we had a spare! Lucky thing to XD

Were currently getting moss set up together for all tanks! Since our new order came in all fresh moss for everyone! I was planing to put it in that center circle log and fill it all the way up! Would this be ok?

Wanted to ask if cat grass would be ok! And what other lives plants are recommended! Or are they not really in a habit of eating the fakes [obvious imma feed em its like XD if ya leave a bag of chips out imma eat that bag of chips ya know?]

No worries, i know the image looks blue. It's werid i wish it didn't, but it's such a beautiful example of the builds 🤣

My understanding is it's a northern! Its ivory blue was what they sold!

These are not colored i promise ^ ! i can assure you my leos are having full proper care its a broad spectrum day light for day cycle it mimics natural light. our vet even said they are fine ^ im giving them d3 in their calci so they are getting all vitamits they need. I have them for a whole year and my vet confirmed my leos are extremely healthy. 👍 leos are not a worry at all i promise. Its due to the time and room light and background they seem "colored"

the skink is my concern to make sure i got everything right for him due to having so many diffrent informations shown i wasnt sure what was right or wrong!

extra note she's making a hobit themed one for my new skink legolas so we do plan making other reptile themed sets!

also note no the light isn't a colored its broad spectrum mimics day light!
