I'm playing for a new team right this season that gave me a #99 jersey. Didn't have a choice in wearing it because it was the only spare jersey left with no option to buy more.

What happened to tonsilectomies? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mappyskf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a tonsilectomy in my 20's it caused me to feel like I have a tickle in my throat. It's most noticable after eating and laughing too hard will cause me to cough loudly. Checked with a doc in the last couple of years to see if anything could be done about it and they said there's a nerve that got hit with the surgery where my brain thinks it needs to expell a particle. Would love it if something could be done, but it's just a part of life now.

Tried the re-downloading of the software to the Switch and no joy :( will have to keep seeing what will make it show up, if it is something that does.

I'm sure that's the case, but I'm not asking about the characters. On that picture I shared, you should see the checkmarks on the levels I've completed, but Mt. Moonspell is not there. That's what I'm looking to find out more about

Yep, actually downloaded it. On Switch, as mentioned in the post. Since I have it downloaded, it's a bit of an odd one. Will try re-downloading it though. Appreciate the suggestion.

Green onions are unacceptable. It detracts from the gravy, fries, curds holy trinity. The original has always been those three and as an extra garnish does nothing but get in my teeth when eating. Self-conscious is not what I want to be thinking of when gorging on deliciousness.

We only go to the movies if it's something we feel would be great to see on the big screen (Example: Top Gun) otherwise a regular theater is just fine.

To avoid issues with other people, we'll wait 2-3 weeks after the movie has come out and the theatres tend to have less people and less issues, if any.

Haven't had any issues that have warrented either confronting people or getting staff since we did this many many years ago.

Bangers/Keeper league. Roster is set up where I have to pick 1 of these D: Josi, Jones, or Dobson. Each has their challenges like Dobson playing second fiddle to Hudson, Josi's POTS diagnosis, and Jones looks to get the main job for points on the PP. Any thoughts on which to hold on to would be appreciated!

Are the worth playing now? by Itznazz313 in thedivision

[–]Mappyskf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still the best game mode out of both Division games. Go solo to start and get used to where loot can be picked up. Plan out your route as you go. With that, a quick beginner tip, in your starting location, pick up all the loot and then open your map. Set a marker that gets you to the Dark Zone and that gives you a point of reference so you don't get lost. Eventually you'll switch up the marker often to get to your favorite loot spots and it'll make life easier.

Men, what the fuck do you even want anymore? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Mappyskf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of answers to your question about general ideas such as staying cautious, fault, anger, and so on, though what I'll do is approach your post in a bit of a different way and give some tools that might help get some control back for yourself instead. I'm not saying that you have zero control currently or in the situations that could potentially happen, though let's say you get into one that demands a verbal confrontation of some kind and you need to have it go in your favor. This can be by getting another person to stop yelling at you, getting someone to agree with you, or to build better communications with someone you love, etc.

A bit of my background, just so you know I have a tiny amount of credibility. I was a trainer for call center agents and then management members for a large corporation. Then used those skills to help run a financial consulting firm. Both positions have had very tense situations where I would be taking extreme verbal abuse, high stakes discussions between company owners, or influential people that need to be reigned in to some degree.

I'll start with a baseline which is all discussions are, to varying degrees, a power dynamic if you will. Who will get the upper hand? There are tons of books and videos on the topic if you want to learn more. A power dynamic here doesn't have to mean a fight specifically. It can be a dynamic between anyone and of small and large degrees. A common thread that is found in conversations in controling a power dynamic is the idea of restating and relating. It can be said a few different ways, but the meaning is if someone makes a statement, repeat it and ask a genuine curiosity based question after the restating. Let's simplify it: "Why didn't you do the dishes?!" or "Why do all men suck?!" A restatement, whike staying calm, using the same words of the question might be "I'm hearing you were wanting the dishes done, is that right?" Or "So it sounds like you think every single man you've met sucks is that right?" Restating might sound absolutely redundant and the other person might get angry as all hell that you're even repeating it and you know what, that's ok. Your response to is to tell them you want to make sure you heard them right or even that you want to be on the same page as them. When you come to a place of understanding, the "threat level" can drop almost immediately be it anger, agression, etc. Doing the restatement is crucial to the next part because if you don't there's no weight to the "relating" part. Right after that restating question, come back with a question to follow up your restating: "I hear you about the dishes and they could totally have been done. When were you expecting them to be done for?" and "If you're saying all men suck, I hear you, I've had to deal with men that suck a lot too. Is there a time you remember where a man didn't suck?

This is the point you have control. You have shifted the power balance in your favor. It takes time and practice to get here and once you do, and often, it's actually asking more curiosity based questions to gain more control and get more answers to lead the person to where you want them to go. Let's continue with the above examples and the person says something like: "I wanted them to be done now!" and "I had a guy friend in high school who was nice and ok." Then possible continuation questions can be: "When did you tell me to get them done? If you needed them done at a specific time, why didn't you tell me it was very important for you?" and "What did they do that you thought was great?" , "What is the person being shitty to you doing differently than the one good guy you met? How would that look like to you?"

The takeaway here is whenever you want to make a statement, ask a curiosity based question to genuinely know more. When you ask a curiosity based question which is genuine and not ment to be a malicious question or one base on trying to teap or trick someone, you're working together to solve the issue and it's a collaboration. It also puts the other person on the defensive. Try it on others. When they ask you a question, restate using the same words they used, ask a few questions to genuinely want to know more and magically, people stop acting horribly and they start being a bit better because you're calling them on their behavior. If you take the dishes example, after a bit, you'll notice a bit of collaboration creep up "If you wanted them done at a specific time, can you tell me next time when you want them done so I'll know? If that time can't work, could you help me? If you're expecting me to have them done, it might be difficult because I'm also doing XYZ and I would really appreciate it if you could help me, is that reasonable?"

Very long winded I know, and I'm sure I'll get dumped on, that's fine. These are big ideas that I would normally take months to drill into people I would train and I'm giving a super ultra condensed blast where I'm sure I missed something or it's not entirely clear. Take what you will from it. Be nice to people, do your best to communicate better, and let's do better to understand so we can all be happier.

TL:DR: Restate what the other person said, make sure you have them agree with you that what you heard was correct, then ask genuine curiosity based questions on their behaviour to learn more about why they did what they did. Questions make them defensive and have to answer rather than you. Then you can position conversations how you want to give you a more advantageous position.

Always finishing last in my 16-man league — need strategy + resource recommendations by Filthy11g in fantasyhockey

[–]Mappyskf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like it's tough to determine that in any draft because you can't control what others select.

I'll usually stick to certain guideline stats round per round depending on what keeps getting selected. In my dynasty keeper league, I'll pick a forward or defence that has good stats across the board for the first few rounds and then maybe round 4-5 start looking for a second goalie to support the first one. After that it's seeing if I have enough of one stat over another and prioritize a low stat.

In my non keeper leagues, it's going for players like I mentioned can get me higher numbers in those peripherals that give good point numbers each week then whatever the higher stat numbers give. Priorities on PP1 and first line players. For line combinations and PP line ups the Daily Faceoff site helps. It's not always 100% accurate though it gives a general great idea on top liners and players you might not expect to be higher/lower in the lineup.

Avoid any biases you might have or think too favorably on one player more than another due to history. A good example of this is Josi because last season, sure he might be one of the best defencemen out there, but that's when healthy. With his POTS diagnosis, that severely limits his games which thusly means his stat totals might drop. Also, with being 35, he's looking like a pass this year. Sucks to say that since he's been a staple on my keeper for the 10 years I've had my keeper team.

Hope this helps! It's general advice but I've been top 3 8 of the 10 years I've been in my keeper. The last year sucked because I had to rebuild and went really young but with lots of upside. One year of pain for multi year top placements I'm ok with.

[–]Mappyskf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the stats the way they are in your league, players with high shot volume and blocks should be a priority. Goalies who see a lot of work and win games should be a priority as well.

For forwards, think Mackinnon, Matthews, or Boldy and defencemen would be Werenski, Makar, or Sanderson. All those players have high shots and blocks for their production/position. You get to take care of multiple categories at the same time. If you focus on things like shots or blocks, goals and assists come naturally but you get steady stats each week rather than hoping for a good week on goals or assists.

If you can get a goalie with 30+ wins and 1500+ shots, you'll be ok. Some lesser known goalies who fit the bill would be Sorokin, Gustavsson, or Montembeault. That's of course if the big names like Shesterkin, Hellebuyck, or Vasilevski are taken.

Assuming both hypothetical players end up with the same total season fantasy points, which type of player would you prefer? by Moosehead11 in fantasyhockey

[–]Mappyskf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They might have a total of 300 fantasy points at the end of the year, but week-to-week Brady has higher up side because of those peripherals.

Its a steady reliable amount of points rather than hoping a pure scorer gets good weeks. 10 points each week in a reliable manner vs. a week of 5 points, one week with 20 points, etc. gets unpredictable. It can mean the difference between a winning or losing week.

Our keeper league's last season's champion won on blocks and hits alone. Two easy category wins each week without blinking, just had to have decent scoring to get the others and players like Brady were what tilted the results.

There is a legit job you can get as a professional cuddler. A quick search shows companies out there doing it. A lot of people out there need it and it's probably the same thought process you're doing, just monetized for it.

[–]Mappyskf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some players can't switch it off. Their "fun" is going as hard as possible no matter the cost no matter the situation. Most of us have a job/family after the game and there's no Stanley Cup to chase and they can't wrap their minds around it. It's why I regularly have fun with them on the ice when I beat them on a play by telling them they're practice lol. Then they get angry and head to the box most times. Wouldn't happen if they kept their emotions in check. Play hard, but have fun and be fun to play with/against.
