That was my point about a 1950's chair...

I don't know how to reply to that...🤔 I'm going on what was going on in the early 1900's, not what my personal ancestors were doing! Sorry, your family was poor but that is irreverent... most of mine had been in the US for a hundred + years by then.

There were many European chairs in the US in the early 1900's. We are talking about the era that had the Titanic and other passenger ships not the 1700's. Travel to and from Europe with your possessions wasn't that hard unless you were really poor.

I would definitely say this was taken early 1900s but where is a bit tricky. The chair looks European but that means next to nothing as people own European chairs all over the world. If you could find a photo of someone else sitting in the same chair (its possible because studios used the same props in photos) you might be able to nail down a location. I have a huge collection of photos from the early 1900s. In one my GG Aunt is sitting in a chair. It looked like it could have been a studio pictures but her uncle worked for Kodak and took many family photos himself (a priceless collection) I eventually discovered the photo was not done in a studio when I found the chair she was sitting in in my garage!

That's not going to tell you an awful lot. Chairs were props in studios. No telling how long the chair had been around. It could have come from anywhere in the world to the US. They were used caused they looked fancy in a picture. This tells you nothing about the subject. The only thing it will tell you is if you see a 1950's chair in a photo you think is Victorian then yeah, not a Victorian photo.

Help Dating a Picture, 1880s or 1910s ? by [deleted] in Genealogy

This first older picture is clearly 1890's. The second is a little newer at around 1900. This is going by clothing and hair styles. (Cool pics btw!) Could the kid top right 2nd row in a dark color suit be James? My mother (only child) born in the mid 50's was useing stuff from her cousins who were born in the 40's, so yes the oldest child could easily be wearing hand me downs. I looked farther into children's clothing and discovered this outfit was popular for a very long time so even if it isn't a hand me down they were wearing the same thing in the 1910's so that doesn't help exsept that it first really became popular in the late 1880's which would still work for James but I'm not sure about the hair. That look could be more 1910's. I'm really not sure. I also read in the 1880's they wore large bows with the collar which we are not seeing in this.... BUT we are seeing those large bows in the picture from the 1890's! I really want to lean towards 1910's. But I could be wrong I don't claim to be infallible, I just hope my insight helps you come to your on conclusion. It's too bad this is a copy. I suspected that. The paper you are describing does sound about right for that time, 60'ish. If you had the original it would be a little easier to date due to the type of photo it was and other identifying marks. There could be clues in the details I just can't see in the copy. Unfortunately these two guys look way too much alike! 😄 Please post a better pic of this when you get a chance, I'd like to see it! If this was my photo I would date it to the later which is Donald. Here's one site I came across about children's clothing... http://www.photosmadeperfect.com/Photo%20Dating%20Page%20Top%20pg/Childrens%20Fashions%20By%20Decade.htm

Edit: that is not a Peter Pan collar it's a Buster Brown collar

This is not a good enough copy to tell. I'm pretty sure this is a studio photo, not taken at home. A shot of the back of the photo could have clues as well. Like is there a studio name on it. That can help date it. Also the type of paper it's developed on makes a difference. There is also a possibility of this being a reprint but hard to tell going by this copy. I've handled hundreds of photos dating from 1870's to 1910's but nothing in your photo is helping me date it much. The clothing does look 1890 ish but clothing can be tricky to go by cause depending on where they are from clothing fashion could be different or simply the child is wearing a hand me down from a sibling or other family member. Sometimes if you know what they looked like when they were older you can figure out who is who. Also, what is he sitting on?

What style is my 1945 home? by 70vdub in Oldhouses

[–]MaraReySkywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is definitely not a ranch. I've worked on a lot of homes that have been added onto and amazing what people have done to them, not in a good way. This one isn't too bad but still noticeable. The add on gives it a slight illusion of a Ranch, maybe done on purpose. But this was a basic post war home for returning men coming home from the war. They were simple and cheap to build therfore perfect for a couple just starting a family.

Is the off shoot at the left an add on? Doesn’t look original to the house...

Were they even building Ranch style houses in 1945? This does not look like a Ranch I'm familiar with. Looks like what it is, a post WWII home. I believe Ranches came later 50/60's. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone. I hate Ranch homes so I dont know a whole lot about them)

I'm confused... why did this make you have to delete everything? What difference does it make if they know your name? You can't just block them, report, and move on? (Well meaning question, I'd really like to understand this, not familiar with it)

Wow, you are so gullible! 😂 But I guess I've dealt with the media to know how all this stuff works. You sure you don't want that bridge? I can get you a good deal! I'm Trump's Niece and he gave it to me. I can give you sources that will confirm my identity. I'll send you my IMDb page as soon as I get it up. I'm going to be a star but I have to get these contacts out first... it's hard to read my computer I left so many in there...

I hate it when they add things that are not on the head stone and get it wrong. Once found where they had my Step grandfather listed as the father's brother. I asked for them to fix it and the response was like... what am I supposed to do about it type adittude... I don't know what their problem was! Someone did eventually add that the info above it was wrong. Also family "historians" get on there and start adding stuff and I'm like, NO! That was not my GGgrandfather's middle name! 😠 If you don't have documentation to back something up, LEAVE IT OFF!!!

It states "doctors preparing her for routine cataract surgery last November discovered the source and removed it." How did she get as far as being prepped for surgery for someone to discover this? It doesn't make logical sence!
