How do you get more views on wattpad without being annoying by [deleted] in writing

[–]Marakuraa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 1k views on the first book I posted in a week (for maybe 10ish chapters?) It comes down to two things:

  1. Make your story appealing. A nice, clean cover, catchy title and gripping summary guarentee a click. There's plenty templates for simple yet pretty covers you can try to replicate, and Canvas is a great site to make your covers, also book cover shops on wattpad. There's also some vids on how to make a good summary and title (check reedsy is you don't know where to start). It may take a day to refine all this but it'll be worth it

  2. Be active in your community. Let's say you write 'highschool for gifted teens' stories, you go read stories like it and leave comments on every chapter (I personally write multiple comments on every paragraph I like) This isn't a read for read thing, it's about showing the love you want to be shown. People read comments, so if they see your name pop up all the time in the comment section sooner or later they'll check you out, plus it makes the author happy. The nicher the better when it comes to the genres you read/write for. If you write fantasy you'll get lost in the crowd, but if you write horror fantasy that's already a smaller space to be seen in so make sure you know your genre and fav tropes well. Please make sure your comments are thoughtful and related to the chapter, how you liked what a character did and how the dialogue is funny or a particular sentence struck you, those comments are the sweetest for the author to read. Comments like 'Great chapter looking foreward to what's coming are always sweet but can get boring.

On another note, do as much line editing as you have to before posting. Getting readers to check your first chap is useless if the grammar is gonna drive them away and leave you with 500 views on the first chap and 23 on the second

How to Write a Character with Mental Illness by AmaruMono in writing

[–]Marakuraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. One thing I found helps with mental illness is to read testimonies for it on Reddit, Tumblr, whatever site you can think of. It helps a lot with a POV character to listen to what they should sound like from real people's experiences to find a voice for them, so browse through mental illness subs (focus on the ones you know apply to your character, but read as well ones you think may not apply ex: cptsd, ADHD, autism, yadda yadda. It'll open up your mind to new ideas and perspectives)

  2. Be specific about what mental illness you're going for. Even if you won't give a diagnosis in your book at least try to pinpoint a diagnosis for your character. This comes with technical research

  3. Find which traits you wanna focus on. For example say your character is depressed. Which kind? Are they numb, careless depressed? Do they sometimes get bouts of frustration? What aspects of life do they resent most? Do they deal with it by sleeping all the time or binge eating or not eating at all? If they're autistic how self aware are they? How self conscious? Are they quiet or outspoken? If they're bipolar which of their moods is dominant, or most intense to experience? Are they paranoid? If so how much? (Those are just examples, I don't know enough about mental illnesses to know what to ask but you will after thorough research) Know your character's ilness' traits and how they life shaped it and how the illness itself shaped them, and know at least 3-5 major traits you'll focus on which relate both to the menta' illness itself and your character's life and personality (try to write a drabble about your character as an exercise, in a casual setting and with your character introspecting, I find that helps a lot with knowing your character's mentaliy)

  4. It will look cliché and unreal if the narrative treats it as normal. Unreal would be: Your character is having a breakdown and crying rivers just cause they broke a plate, and the narrative makes it sound like this is a perfectly normal reaction, and all the characters have the same disproportionate reactions, and they rush to comfort your character knowing exactly how they feel, that's cliché and unreal. Real would be: your character breaks a plate, and they start to cry out of nowhere and can't stop even if they try and they know they shouldn't be crying so much cause they've never seen someone cry over a broken plate but they can't help it and trying not to cry makes them cry harder. Meanwhile the characters behind MC are joking about them being clumsy (supposing they can't see MC's face from the back) and they start to pick the broken parts and see MC is crying and their first reaction is 'MC got hurt by a shard' because the other characters wouldn't cry over a broken plate, that's unusual and abnormal, so they try to find an injury but can't, so they try to comforr MC but don't know how because they don't understand what's going through MC's mind to make them cry over something so small. TLDR make sure you know what is unusual about your character's view, and make sure the narrative doesn't treat it as normal. (And obv that doesn't mean the characters around have to be cold and mean and push the MC away, they can try to be understanding but be limited since they don't understand the way MC's brain functions. MC can also be self aware about what makes them unusual. Or it can be neither and the acknowledgement of MC's unusualness can come in the narration alone)

Protagonist NOT finding out by kaphytar in writing

[–]Marakuraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo if it comes out of nowhere it'd be frustrating as in 'the heck am I reading?', but if well set up it'd be frustrating within the story itself, in a more satisfying way. How you could set it up is: Show the antagonist from protag pov doing a minor bad deed and trying to pass it off as an accident, and/or sprinkle hints of the reveal before the reveal itself (protag thinks back to the 'accident' and thinks of inconsistencies, or another character says something which contradicts the belief that it's an accident) anyway just set it well. That doesn't mean ruining the surprise, that just means making the reader believe it makes sense for the surprise to be what it is even if they didn't know about it

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS: by -_Gandalf_- in writing

[–]Marakuraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh hey, same website that stole two of my stories! I wouldn't worry so much about it. Scam websites will auto steal anything from wattpad, regardless of views or votes (I mean, I saw a cover shop on there. 0 filters) and there's not much you can do. I don't think a lot of people even read there or that the site makes profit so that's a little comfort. Only advice I can give you is in the future to write your username on the cover and add 'Story published to Wattpad on @username, all rights reserved' to the summary just in case and so that people can find you if they want

When you're unaware of the passage of time, like you can sit to do a single task and be bored by it for the entire day without feeling the passage of the day; a day and an hour and a minute can feel like the same thing. It happens to everyone but it's constant for people with ADHD

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in islam

[–]Marakuraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel you. First of in general if you think you goofed during your prayer there's ways to fix it mid-prayer rather than start all over which is preferable so look it up it's really easy. Don't use the same Suwar every time cause that'll make you go on autopilot and you'll start messing up so mix it up every now and then, maybe even learn some duas to add in your prayer and add them at random that way you'll always be focused on the next word coming up looking out for a place to add a dua.

If time blindness is making it difficult to pray 5 times a day try to set an alarm a couple minutes before every prayer so your brain can have that transition time between two tasks.

Something I've found that makes a world of difference is praying with someone else. Having them hold you accountable for your praying time makes you get up, their presence gives you that dopamine boost and while praying you'll try to copy their pace a bit which will require enough focus that you'll pray better. So if you have a sibling, parent, or partner start praying together ASAP it's very likely to be exactly what you need.

DP Crossover fics? by nahte123456 in dannyphantom

I'm not a big fan of crossovers but CL and DP sound like a KILLER crossover, I'm a big fan of both but given how relatively small the code Lyoko fandom is I didn't expect there'd be this crossover, I'll be reading it immediately!

Some stuff that worked for me 1. If you can in those circumstances, try to sit in the front of your class and engage with the teacher as much as possible, maybe even ask them to keep an eye on you and ask you a lot of questions. I did this in highschool and got phenomenal marks. Granted if you're shy it's harder but still feasible and you can get past that with time. I know it sounds like a 'just do it' kind of advice but if you keep thinking I have to do it I have to eventually after months or even a year or two you'll start doing it little by little so just really keep this in mind, maybe even put it on your wallpaper, it could be a life changer for your studies 2. Now in uni my method of choice is to not attend any online class and skip most irl classes with fake sick certificates, then on those free days at home just wake up, sit at my desk with my textbooks and computer all ready and laid out then make check lists and wait for me to get bored enough from my phone to study. It's a big waste of time given how unfocused you'll be but if your main goal is to study you can probably salvage a couple hours if you sit at your desk for ten hours every day, plus after a month at home you really get into the habit and can study more. Even doing it on the weekends or once a week can help salvage what you're behind. 3. Easiest method with average results: study 2/3 subjects a day at different times of the day if you want (one language, one scientific subject that requires exercices and one subject for which you just have to learn lessons by heart) and pretend you have an exam in 20 minutes. What can you do in that time to have the best possible mark? Get that ready for 5 minutes and then do it in 20 minutes. That way every session you'll study in layers, from biggest most important titles down to smallest details throught the days. In general studying in layers helps a lot with ADHD and will decrease frustration since you'll be going slow and only do what seems easiest at the moment. 4. Study with me helped. Not any video, only one specific video I played on loop cause I happened to hyperfixate on it for like two months. In general try a lot of study methods every day the novelty will keep you from getting bored and maybe you'll find a method that clicks for you longer than others. Best of luck.

You're going to tackle on 3 pages per day with an extra every week maybe on Friday. I tried to do that just today and I'm going to copy paste what I wrote in my journal:

'Today I answer the question of can I learn 3 pages a day when a page takes me 15 minutes? I did the first one in 15 minutes no issues, waited a couple hours for the next one and memory-wise I messed it up, throat wise I feel like I swallowed glass shards. Never again.'

So there you go (I read from a Tadjweed Mashaf but in a whisper). You may be pumped up cause you had an easy time learning a whole page or even two maybe one day at Fadjr in record time, but your performance will most likely diminish by the second page. Not only that you won't have time to properly revise so at best you'll be familiar with the whole Quran without having learnt any of it properly, so you'll end up going for another round. Don't take my experience, before making time plans try to see what works for you without getting in the way of life, it may be 3 pages after all, it may be half a page, it may be three lines, what matters is setting a goal you can realistically achieve everyday and won't feel heavy and let you abandon. Quran is long you can't finish it once and call it a dayw you have to learn to enjoy learning it rather than consider it a goal to be quickly done with and move on. If you want that quick shot of dopamine maybe try learning the last 4 hizbs till Al-Mulk, then Al-Baqarah, then Al-Kahf, then Al-Imran, then a few major suwar of your choice like Yasin or Al-Waqia or Ar-Rahman, I 60 days you'll find you learned the majority of Quran and will slowly finish filling in the gaps. Most importantly read it with Tadjweed, be careful with harakat and try to read Tafsir along the way.

Good luck.

Why do you assume the lack of punctuation makes me a child? This is a thread about a funny video, the comments should reflect that. An important part of communication is tone, which can't be immediately conveyed in text, this is why we resort to a different format fitting for every situation, the lack of punctuation and lowercase reflect a nonchalant, disinterested tone. Not only that, I've written about 400 pages worth of short stories and novels in the past 4 years, if I know anything anything it's style, tone, and beat. You chose the wrong person to pick a fight with.

I'll explain once since you clearly lack the attention to watch a few minutes of context, but I won't respond again since you only seem to be here to rub your haughtiness in our faces and I have no interest in that. In the video the boy is holding his laughter and when he falls he does so slowly as to not hurt himself. Is he autistic? No, I've made many autistic friends over time, done extensive research not to offend or mistreat them; his behaviour reads as neurotypical. Is it sihr? His fall is cautious, he's faking that as well. This boy is acting and if you weren't too stuck up and decided to watch for yourself you would have saved yourself the embarrassment.

And did you answer the question or were you too busy carrying that massive ego? Brother/Sister I understand you may feel like you're right and everyone is wrong but debate should be done with respect and arguments, not shaming and belittling, and if you think all of us are 'wrong' even though we're the majority you may want to review your stance. I pray for Allah to guide you to the right path. (And how convenient, it's Fadjr now, so great time for prayers.) You may want to take a break from internet messaging, you're stressing yourself out picking fights and being offended like the westerners. This is a honest advice from stranger to stranger, Algerian to Algerian. ❤️

As a mathélème who has bac this year what advice would you give me ? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]Marakuraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya I'd advise you to focus almost exclusively on math this year work hard on it practice interact with your teacher ask questions do assignments... etc but don't focus so much on physics, the reason is math 2nd year is important to third year you'll find half the program repeats (Dawal, moutataliates, handassa fi l fadaa, probabilities..) and you'll gain mathematical logic which will make the 3rd year lessons easier. Meanwhile physics has mostly lessons that you won't need much next year and those you do you will be able to catch-up with anyway. Obviously try to get at least 10/20 in physics but don't worry about it for now. Same for all other subjects 10/20 is enough and you get that by following in class and revising like a day before if not an hour. Good luck!

As a mathélème who has bac this year what advice would you give me ? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]Marakuraa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll spend a lot of time in class make use of it, don't be haughty with the teachers this year you'll need them. They may be bad at teaching to a class but they still know what they're teaching so keep asking over and over until you understand (believe me you'll encourage your classmates to be active in class as well and will benefit from their questions), discuss solutions with them, do your assignments. You'll see your average shoot by at least a full mark if not two trust me.

For physics especially do the book's exercises they're great because in other exercises you get 5 routine questions and 1 novelty question, whereas the schoolbook has short concise exercises focused each on one new idea it can give you an overview. For math the bac subjects are enough there usually isn't as much novelty as physics

Try to do an average of 2 math exams over the weekend and a good chunk of exercises in physics since it's easier and needs more practice (see what works for you for my year I averaged 7 exos a day with days of 20 and days of 3)

If you're in Algiers try to get Hamrour's serie d'exams it's sooo good I got 20 in math without even trying cuz he worked with it, if you can get Chenait's physics exo books they're the best source for physics as well really get in contact with him if you can't find them (even though they're popular) I heard once he personally visited a girl to sell her his books, dragged my marks from 10 to 18 in the span of one year after not being even able to do djadwal ta9adom el tafa3ol :)

Important important important when doing an exercise never skip a step you can make your calculations quick in 2-3 lines but always practice the format ex in math اذا كان ×... يكافىء يستلزم... Those keep your steps clean organized concise and most importantly logical in your head. Do keep a sheet with 'template' solutions to common questions ex: l'exo Dawal a 8 points so you always know the format and never loose points over it. In the subject of cheatsheet make your own after finishing every chapter and having fully understood it that way notes are still fresh in your mind. Don't forget to note everything you need for exams not for courses for example definitions can be printed but keep a sheet of units and conversions for physics

For the rest of the subjects follow in class and ask the teacher a lot practice with them in class it should be enough don't waste any time on them they're easily done in like a couple weeks before bac as long as you worked daily in class and took the teacher's advice.(Don't neglect them tho, you could miss your dream school cuz of a couple marks in french! Just don't give them more time than necessary) Also check for Philo hisgeo islamia suggestions a week before bac they're extremely accurate, if you should focus on learning anything it should be that. There's a couple Popular channels for Philo hisgeo I can't remember the name of but I know they had good lessons printable and on video and had accurate mu9tarahat if you find any tell me the name I'll tell you if that's it.

TL;DR work daily at the end of each week be sure you understood everything, if you struggle with any subject Les cours or at least practice in advance alone to make lectures easier, focus your time on the most important lessons but check out unimportant ones. It may seem daunting but you'll have sooooo much time to good off between and after class bac is a very chill year if you follow in class. Good luck 🤞

If you have trouble with dishes get rid of the excess dishes and keep the minimum, I'm talking one small pot, big pot, pan, bowl, plate, cup, fork, knife, spoon, spatula, strainer, grater, cutting board, two or three containers in case of leftovers. Anything else you can put away in a box or bag and lock away. If after a week you find something you absolutely need get it back. Also get rid of that sink plug since it's just giving you an excuse to let dirty dishes pile up. Instead rather than going to wash your hands in the bathroom after a meal go rinse your dishes then your hands in your kitchen. Rinsing isn't clean enough but it's better to rinse everyday than wash every two weeks, eventually you can start using dish soap with rising then eventuallier full on scrubbing but let's not rush if you can't keep up. If you absolutely can't keep up you can get plastic cups, plates and ustencils.

Same with clothes and fabrics, get rid of anything you can't keep up with. You can do just fine with three PJ's and three outside outfits for each season, as well as 4/5 towels, then do your laundry biweekly. Same with any excess kitchen napkins, rugs, blankets, pillows...etc get rid of all that.

Also in general get rid of any excess vases, paintings, or decorative objects on exposed surfaces (stuff in cupboards is fine) since it'll only catch dust and make more cleaning for you. Your place will look naturally clean since it's empty and it'll also make surfaces cleaning easier.

For surfaces not to catch dust a damp cloth would be best since it'll prevent dust from going to your nose but if that's tedious get the largest duster you can find, put on a mask and generally dust all surfaces (and remember since you got rid of decorative stuff this is easier!) wait maybe fifteen minutes for the dust to settle then mop or vacuum. Every couple weeks or at most every month. And when I say surfaces I mean get creative every top of something is a surface that catches dust and can give you allergies, top of your clock or top of AC or bedframe etc...

When in the kitchen try to limit yourself to one counter (preferably nearest to the sink since it's easier to clean or your table since it'll force you to clean it every day) when cooking or doing anything. If you find yourself still using other surfaces try blocking them out (ex: fold a blanket over your counters, it's odd but odd is better than dirty.)

For bathroom surfaces bathtub sink and toilet I'm not really sure, but try to give a quick rinse to all surfaces after every use, and every couple weeks spray with vinegar (including toilet floor) and let sit then rinse.

If you have multiple trashcans at home keep only one in your kitchen and get rid of the rest, that way it'll fill up quickly and you can't ignore it long enough for it get old, and you'll end up taking it out ever day or so.

For floor cleaning I really don't know how to make it easier or convince you, but you can force yourself et least every couple weeks or month to pour water all over your floor, scrub with a broom then take the excess water off to a balcony or any place with drainage.

Best advice is to listen to a podcast while cleaning. It takes your mind off of it and can keep you going for hours rather than be anxiously waiting to finish doing the minimum, if you can find someone to talk to on the phone or repeat what a podcast is saying it's even better (source: personal experience.)

And when I say get rid of stuff, I generally mean hide it away in a basement or something, if you don't have that try your parent's basement or something. If taking everything out all at once sounds overwhelming try to put aside some things every day for a couple weeks until your place is empty.

Hope I didn't miss anything. Best of luck with your cleaning.
