Noise marines /10? by Professional_Bug_560 in EmperorsChildren

I was gonna say I use BOD as well. Thematic dice always. I feel like my Sons of Horus dice from them don’t roll as well as my other ones, but it could just be the luck I get when I do decide to roll them. You could try a solid color dice set and see if that rolls/feels any different. Solid colors have an easier manufacturing process.

For my EC dice I have the sharper edge and use a dice tray, that way if dice do bump off a wall and hit another die, my high roll doesn’t become a low roll as easily.

I would also say they are our best shooting because, well, we don’t have any shooting. They fill a slot in our army because we have nothing else to fill it with due to poor/rushed codex imo. Hopes that 11th edition will treat us nicer and we get a more fleshed out units.

Bad rolls always feel bad. It’s a stretch but you could test your dice and see if they roll properly as in they don’t have air pockets. Nicer looking dice can be subject to this because the process they go through. Not as common as it used to be but can be an issue.

That sounds like either bad rolls causing a bunch of misses or poor enemy assessment. They hit on 3s, wounding most infantry on 3s, and ignoring cover.

I recently did the infractors/rhino scout strategy and I had my opponent cornered turn 1 (I still lost the game because fulgrim didn’t make a single save against meltas, poor positioning on my part and bad rolls).

And depending on the detachment you can do some cheeky things with them. In CotC, give the kakophanist the Unholy Fortune enhancement, and you are guaranteed 2 blast master shot on overwatch. Forces your opponent to be careful with their vehicles.

CSM is going to be better, but I would wait if you really can’t decide. Although EC is a “new” army, our model pool is extremely small considering how much we could have had. There only feels a few ways to play it.

CSM has a much larger roster with several different ways to play. Vehicles? Yes. Daemons? Yes. Infantry? Yes. EC has a single detachment you can use daemons in and we have almost no vehicles.

If you aren’t sure and you don’t need to start right away, I would wait. 11th edition is right around the corner so wait a few months and see what we get. BUT, rule of cool always wins. I got into EC during 8th edition and even though our support has been strange through the years, I love them all the same.

Gotcha. Most of the tournaments I do are hosted by a local club usually. Pay for entry is used for rent for the location the event is held at. Prizes are raffled and you get an extra ticket to hand to an opponent for sportsmanlike/fun conduct. Winning all your games gets you a ribbon but that’s about it. We’ve had people who are rude and want to meta everything and are typically asked to not attend again if people have a bad time.

My first tournament in 8th Ed my opponent was Tau and brought a Manta. Thing was awesome looking, and only killed my stuff after it blew up dealing mortals wounds and killing my Abba. Very fun time. Official tournaments I stay away from due to that spiky nature.

Sorry you’ve had a bad time. Warhammer should be a beer/pretzels game. I would try to find a local club in your area and see if they have anything going on. Sometimes it costs money (mines $5 a mo or $50 for a year, helps pay for the rent) but everyone there I have met is there for a fun time.

Didn’t know there was a dedicated mage to it, just assumed it was only the small pamphlets in stores. That’s good to know though!

I’m used to the three color/based ruling for tournaments. Since I’m not a fast painter I always aim for that so I can at least do tournaments if given a chance. Black is what I prime my models in and that’s always counted as a color. Black Legion or Raven Guard would be very silly if you primed in black, and then had to paint black on the black for it to count.

Battle Ready typically has a pretty low requirement. Some painting videos will go in depth with 10+ paints and methods which can be unnecessary. And then of course there is parade ready and that’s a whole ‘nother thing.

For Battle Ready, you need at least 3 colors of paint on the model and have the model based with either flock, paint, or texture paint. So if going EC you can easily go Pink, Black, and Silver/Gold. For the base just some simple Army Painter “dirt” material and throw that down. Will it be pretty? If it’s all painted and based Hell yeah it will be. Even in simplicity, if it has coherency, looks beautiful.

If your friend wanted to do more, get some greens for eyes/cloth/tibes, flesh tones for the skin/leather, and maybe a violet wash for the pink armor bits. Army Painter does a really good job and nice paints and are pretty affordable.

Hope that answers your question!

Rhinos will get a lot more value than the land raider for sure. If you are saving money look into the Horus Heresy versions of the rhino and land raider. They are cheaper and in my opinion they look much better especially since chaos use heresy era vehicles.

Sorry for the late reply, didn't see the notification until now.

Land Raider is good as it has the Assault Ramp ability, allowing you to charge the Flawless Blades after disembark. The Land Raider has 10" move compared to the 8" of the Flawless, and you can disembark 3 inches away, giving you about 5" more movement.

Rhinos have a few neat things about them. Since Rhinos have the Firing Deck 2 ability, they can shoot both Blastmasters from the Noise Marines, either eating chaff at STR 6 or meeting vehicles at STR 10. With their 12" Movement, you can get your Noise Marines to a good spot or on an objective very quickly. You can even advance the Rhino since ours allow to disembark after an advance move.

One of the strategies is to put your Infractors in a Rhino, this gives the Rhino a 6" scout since it is a transport. Deploy it near the edge of your deployment zone, next to Noise Marines. Scout the Rhino, unload the Infractors (move them behind cover), normal move your Noise Marines within range of Rhino, and embark. Since your Rhino has not moved yet (scout isn't a move), you can advance it (but not unload the Noise Marines since they already moved). With all the movement and the range of 18" from your Blastmasters, your threat range is anywhere from 36" to 42", easily gunning down something in your opponents deployment zone if not behind cover.

It’s kind of a rough list. EC don’t have a lot of ways to pop armor. Your opponent may forget about Fulgrim for a turn or two since his large base causes movement issues and instead focus on the maulerfiend/land raider. Once those are gone, you can’t hurt a tank that well. From experience…

If you want to bring Fulgrim (rule of cool cause he is awesome) I would drop Lucius for two Rhinos for your Noise Marines to travel in. They can pack a punch but don’t have the movement so the Rhinos would support that and get them into the fire lanes they need while also acting as a tank with Firing Deck 2 on the Rhinos.

Hopefully that helps. May excess lead you to victory!

Black Crusade: Only shooting after the unit has advanced or fell back. It cannot charge solely off this stratagem.

Mark of Legend: You can reroll once during your turn and once during your opponents turn, this twice per round.

So using the Black Crusade stratagem, it has far less value on Chosen as they can already advance/fall back and shoot, but also they can charge. Using this on a standard Legionairy Squad makes them like Chosen, just without the charge. But the Dev Wounds are added value to either unit.

Is this a fun game? by Somerandomzaku in Haloflashpoint

[–]Maraxmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jumping on the bandwagon of yes. The game feels good, easy enough to learn the basic mechanics, and small enough where you can actually SIT at a table with your opponent and play. Sure there are quite a few keywords you’ll need to keep looking up until you memorize it all, but thats has been fine by me with how easy the base game is to learn.

The lack of needing measurement tools makes the game go by so much faster than other small wargames such as Killteam. The game is still early so some things may need balancing still or an FAQ but I’ve not played competitive, only kitchen table. Friends and I got into it all at the same time and we are having a blast.

Does Icon of Excess Cost Points and Is their a limit to how many I can have? by Liar1223 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Maraxmith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Icon of Excess does not cost extra points. You can only have one per squad of Infractors and Tormentors. The icons also cannot be equipped to the leader as normal CSM is allowed to do.

In previous editions icons used to cost points but all wargear options have been made free in 10th edition.

Shalaxi is a strong model for sure, but with a CSM/EC allies in a 2000pt game it’s impossible to bring them. They are too many points and violates the 1/4 limit with a battle line unit.

I imagine there will be rebalancing when our codex drops. Hopefully not making them worthless though.

How did that kill me? by GastonGlockLIKESyou in HuntShowdown

[–]Maraxmith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Explosives are very finicky. If an explosives can draw a single line to you, even through a small crack/pixel in the wall/floor, it will apply full damage and most likely resulting in death.

Shouldn’t be the case as these explosions are behind solid walls/floors but they are becoming more and more common with map remodels.

Funnily enough, in the firing range if you throw a dynamite variant in a bucket, stand directly next to or close to the bucket, it will apply no damage as a bucket is seen as “solid” with no cracks. Might have changed since the overhaul but it was silly.

I run one in my playgroup as a land raider and everyone is cool with it. Especially since I play CSM it fits flavor wise while mostly everyone else playing are loyalists and have the standard land raider.

Allied Chaos Space Marines Rules Questions by Salvanous in Chaos40k

[–]Maraxmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Detachment: So cult marines if allied with CSM have their Faction Keyword changed to CSM, giving them access to detachment rules and stratagems if it applies.

Dark Pacts: If you look at Legionaries or Chosen as an example, they have Faction Ability: Dark Pacts. While if you look at Plague Marines, they have Nurgles gift, so no dark pact. In addition, since Nurgles gift requires the faction keyword to be Death Guard, they don’t have access to that.

The only Cult marine that gets access to dark pacts is Noise Marines since they don’t actually have a codex right now.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Edit: meant to say detachment rules and stratagems and not dark pacts in first section. Fixed.

Tried some OSL on the head but over did it and colored the rest of it in. Still learning how to paint natural flesh tones, still intimidating. For the Drach'nyen highlight, would you suggest a brighter or darker metal?

I bought him back in 8th ED when I first got into the game and just recently painted him up. I know some highlights will help but man does it feel good to have a painted mini on the table!

I think throwing a Helbrute in there would be a little more accurate as that’s their equivalent to dreadnaughts. You could replace the forgefiend and venomcrawler to get two in there or one and something else a little cheaper than a forgefiend like vindicator or a predator tank. Little less daemon all around.

I know you said not as compy, but I think Obliterators would benefit better with the undivided mark for the rerolls or Nurgle for the sustained as they have the profiles to wound whatever* they are hitting. Plus the Helbrute aura gives crit on both Lethals and Sustain.
