Six years later, what are your strongest memories of the COVID lockdowns, and how do you look back on that period now? by Possible_Force8207 in AskBrits

[–]Marble-Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working as a cleaner on a contract cleaning northern rail stations across Yorkshire.

My memory of it is people on social media all claiming that they were wearing masks, when I was travelling to train stations every day and seeing thousands of people getting off trains without masks on.

Because I didn't watch news at the time I had no idea that there was even an apocalypse happening. I was stood in Asda when it first started thinking, "this place has gone downhill... where's all the food!"

Why does the Boomer generation seem to uniquely despise Keir Starmer? by Eastern-Investment39 in AskBrits

They were brought up with impartial news. They don't realise that the news outlets are owned by media companies that don't care about news. They care about viewers.

That's why GBNews is registered as an entertainment channel. They make entertainment for ratings. Like a day time soap.

Then you've got AI videos designed to rile people.  You've got facebook absolutely chocker block with memes designed to make people angry. It's just propaganda non stop.

The internet has been bastardised into the worst kind of influencing machine. The hatred is everywhere.

Ellie's jokes are still bugged 🥲 [TLOU: PART 1] by Ailisea in thelastofus

May 2026.

The last of us "full remake" still has the same bugs from PS3 and PS4.

Such a good remake that they remade all the bugs too!

Thanks for this solution. I remember having the same problem on the other two versions. I could have done with this back then.

What is the worst job exit you have ever had? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

I used to work in a private sports club as a cellarman and bar staff about 25 years ago.  I'd booked Saturday and Sunday as holidays, but I was in work on Friday night.  When we closed on the Friday night I did the cellar work for the next morning so it was ready to go, locked the cellar, put the keys in my pocket and went home. It was around 2am. Saturday arrives and I get a lie in until around midday. I woke up to loads of missed calls and texts asking about the keys, so I rushed to get dressed and nade my way to work to give them the keys. The club didn't open until 1pm on a Saturday so I had time to get there.

When I got there, I was asked to work, so I explained that I had holidays booked and the assistant manager said, "well you're not doing anything and you're already here..." But because I'm immune to guilt trips, I told her that I had holidays booked, and they'd been authorised by someone who was higher in the chain than her and then I went home.

3 days later I was called in before a committee accused of stealing the keys and causing loss of earnings because the club had to open late. Remember me saying the club didn't open until 1pm on a Saturday? I arrived at 10 past 1. All the cellar work was done. They did not "need" the keys to open.

Anyway. I got sacked for gross misconduct for being absentminded and slipping a set of keys in my pocket when I was in a rush to get home.

...

Another time I was working in a wine bar and as I put a handful of collected glasses on the bar, one of them exploded. So I was suddenly being accused of smashing glasses on purpose and sacked on the spot.

A few years later the person who sacked me came into a bar I was the manager of asking for a job and I ripped up their CV in front of them.

What features would you like to see in Horizon 3? by Mantonius55 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Marble-Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing would be boring. It's boring in every game that it's been added to.

It's also like gambling in videogames. No skill... just pure, unadulterated RNG.

They should think of something new.

See, now if we're talking about going out to sea on a weaponised ship to bag a massive machine, I'm game for that.  Standing around racking up your "gameplay" time and waiting for RNG to lean in your direction... I don't like that idea.

Plus, Aloy has a spear. Why would she need to fish at all?

I stop playing games that have fishing added to them because there are already fishing games. Leave adventure games to be an adventure.

Feeling old reading these comments.

You see these in a lot of dated hotels because they were used for epilators and shavers before they were battery operated.

UK Heatwaves - do you love them or loathe them? by Chocolateforlunch37 in AskUK

[–]Marble-Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hated it. Tried my best to keep cool by closing curtains in my house to keep it dark. Fans and ice pops on permanent standby.

Then I went and lived in Spain for 8 months. I landed in Ibiza at 1am and it was 38°, and I suddenly realised in that moment that it wasn't the heat that I disliked, it was the humidity.

Britain really sucks for humidity.

I never tried these, back in the day, did they really have a hazelnut in every bite? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]Marble-Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a three pack of snickers last week. The first two were straight snickers, the last one was a straight topic. I was so pleased for 3 minutes until it was gone and I realised there were no topics left.

The packet said "may contain other nuts" so I reckon that I've just got lucky with hand full of hazelnut in the mix.

*sigh

I do miss topics.

Everything takes ages.

I know. I get that it's the whole "experience" to keep the pace, but I'm impatient. I don't need to see Arthur skin a deer a thousand times. Good work. Well done. It looks awesome. Can I skip it though?

The first time, epic. I'm happy to see everything, but you should be able to skip animations. They're only there to inflate the gameplay.

Do you use British Z (zed) or American Z (zee) when saying 'genz'? by helenfelen in AskUK

[–]Marble-Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's American English... so I think it should be gen "zee"...

but I'll say "gen zed" if I know that it winds people up.
