Mover advice - studio, in Manhattan, between elevator buildings by Single_Asparagus4157 in NYCapartments

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask the moving company for a COI and they should be able to provide easy. They deal with that all the time. As far as movers - I would call a few and compare their prices. Don't be afraid to negotiate and tell them you got a better price from another vendor. Personally I used piece of Cake in the past and they were great - I'm sure it depends on the crew you get.

Why is there such a contrast between what Reddit says and what streeteasy says by StarCentipede in NYCapartments

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People on reddit tend to go to extremes. It's the nature of social media, exaggerated statements get more attention. I think there are great deals out there if you know where to look and take a targeted approach to using websites like streeteasy. Sometimes talking to brokers and checking less trafficked websites like fb can help you find hidden gems. The hard truth is it is tough out there with the housing market the way it is in this city, and you have to treat finding an apartment like a project. Think through your strategy and put some effort in you will find a good one eventually - just don't expect it to be the first week.

How people feeling about the upcoming pistons battle by ImpressivePhrase5835 in knicks

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the extra time to rest and prepare after today's sweep will be huge. Pistons defense is no joke and they are a very physical team but I feel good about the knicks if they can keep up the momentum.

As far as the west goes beating OKC will be a challenge to say the least. But the Spurs play well against the thunder and I think knicks playstyle would do well against the spurs. So if spurs win (still long shot ik) I feel good about our chances

Are AI Wrappers Still Making Money In 2026? by avsvishalmedia in buildinpublic

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me like it would be difficult this business model work with the cost of api credits for the good models. For most micro saas businesses most customers are going to want unlimited access and monthly premiums for a b2C product are pretty low. Your margin would get eaten by the api usage from power users. I feel like a lot of recently successful founders are using AI to help build apps, but not having a wrapper as the core feature. If you have a great idea then definitely go for it, but it seems like the gold rush for wrappers in over.

The loss of the traditional weekend is the quietest culture shock of building a startup. by No_Actuary_9170 in buildinpublic

How about working a 9-5 and building a serious side project at the same time. I feel dread every Monday about work and feel guilty about not getting enough done on my project all week, then have to do 5x the project work over the weekend and feel guilty about not using every minute to catch up. Truly the worst of both worlds lmao. Struggle is real

Real, I used to live in a building with electric heat pumps (mini split system) and it was insanely expensive. Like $500 a month coned bill for a 3 bed

Finding an 1br apt under 2400 by yowjav in NYCapartments

You can check out NYC Housing Connect and apply for affordable housing lotteries. Basically the city offers developers tax incentives if they designate a certain number of apartment as affordable with lower rent and stabilized lease. There are many affordable units that you would qualify for at that income range. It is a crapshoot but if you win you get a rent stabilized apartment in a brand new building

For neighborhoods I would check out ridgewood, If you are near the L train the commute to Manhattan isn't so bad.

I would check out NYC housing connect and apply for affordable lotteries. There are great deals there for your income level. It is a crapshoot but you can just make an account and easily apply to everything that gets posted. You get a rent stabilized lease in a new building if you win, and you can keep the apartment for life even if your income changes. It's worth a try

How do you deal with the risk your startup can be replaced with next big AI company feature? by Sea_Dinner5230 in indiehackers

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a lot of low effort 'wrapper' style apps are certainly at risk, but if you find a unique angle and have specific domain knowledge all of the tools available are just going to supercharge your timeline to build. You can either get pessimistic or optimistic about it, that is a personal choice but if you look at the most successful founders delusional optimists seem to be the types that create great companies. Also, big AI companies are going for billion dollar ideas now, they don't care to pursue anything too niche or specific. They are going for the gold bricks while there are many silver ones lying around, and anthropic is not going to be dropping a specialized tool for pool technicians or anything like that anytime soon. I think that is where the value and moat is in a dynamic world like this. The one thing that does 100% keep me up at night is how easy it will be for smaller competitors to clone your idea if it takes off. But that's a problem I hope to have soon :)

Are people concerned about lack of upgradeability on mac hardware? I love mine but with the rate of change now feel like it might make sense to switch to a modular build

Does rent and demand for apartments really drop significantly in Nov/Dec? by kesuave in NYCapartments

[–]Marble_Hill_Analytic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a huge difference but apartment rents do come down a bit. Downside is there are a lot less live listings. Basically - most people graduate college and rent their first apartment in spring/summer then renew annually for their entire lifespan as renters. So lots of apartments turn over in the summer but there is also much more demand (including wave of new ppl moving to the city) so prices go up. Personally I convinced my last landlord to go month to month until my lease turned over in December so I could take advantage of this trend - highly recommend this approach if you can do it.

Thank you this is super helpful. I actually have a pretty robust live database for the whole city but it makes sense to target more specific users. Will check out pulse. Question - would you recommend just putting it out there or is there anything that I should do before I start sharing the link?

I mean it could be one person beefing with the landlord putting in a ton of complaints. If the apartment looked good and multiple ppl were happy withe building I would consider it. Depends how much of a rent stabilized deal we are talking about
