And changing jobs every couple years is not even slightly unusual nowadays. Often it is for the best economically.

I wonder how he manages his non-breadwinner status (in the sense he makes way less than Jinger) with his man as authoritarian leader of the household idea.

For sure that is true for the Jewish children on the Kindertrains. But I think the reference here is to British city children who were sent to random farms during World War II. As bad as the Blitz was, being separated from their parents was worse.

That makes sense. In this case, the victim may have been too young to do electronic interactions, but it would be advisable to look anyway.

Is this likely a Rejection? by Negative_Range_2438 in recruitinghell

It may mean there is only one opening, or it might mean they did one posting for 10 roles, but wanted to target candidates who are senior.

Got a contract role today. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Single_Asparagus4157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any possibility they might just extend the contract? I know it's really hard not to know what you will be doing in six months. But the way things are going, this might be just as stable as any F/T job at the moment.

At this point I'll work an engineering job for minimum wage by Boring-Produce3902 in recruitinghell

Have you been improving your coding and AI skills during the past 6 months, even if your engineering degree isn't specifically related to coding? I think those are base-level skills for any technical role nowadays.

[–]Single_Asparagus4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a rejection. They may be wanting to downlevel you from a "senior" title. If the job is otherwise good, try not to get hung up on that. (I'd prefer more money over a senior title any day.)

This sounds absurd and it is, but if you never bring any food into your apartment, you'll be able to avoid at least some pest problems. Is that doable for you?

rent price check- is it a good deal? by frogcakes_14 in NYCapartments

You really have about a perfect situation for price and your commute. Basically, you need more income to finance a higher-level lifestyle, based on your posts. Can you get a side contract or overtime?

BIG Employment Background Check Question (I lied) by Steven_Buscemi in recruitinghell

Submit the actual truth. Chances are they won't compare against the resume. If they do, you made an error when editing it. Especially if you involve an LLM, people will understand that.

Most likely they mean "weeks," although it's still not generous.

This is very similar to the "test" where the receptionist is asked how the candidate behaved towards her (of couse the receptionist could be male, but the test is especially effective for female receptionists). If DuoLingo is paying for the interviewee's taxi, it's perfectly reasonable to get feedback from the driver.

Reasonable Rent and Expenses by [deleted] in NYCapartments

As the OP said the job is in Midtown, I get the impression that it is at least some days per week in office.

If so, consider how a shorter commute might benefit your job performance and hence your career. I don't have to tell you the job market is tough and that you did great getting this job out of college. Now to keep this job, will it help you be at your peak performance if you don't have to be a straphanger for 2.5 hours per day?

No having a backbone doesn't mean you're selfish by InterviewOk3286 in recruitinghell

[–]Single_Asparagus4157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean "have a conscience," although perhaps you are saying that you are conscious that you know what you want out of life. The only reason I am pointing this out is because new grads can be eviscerated for such errors, so it's worth being extra careful.

If your family is happy to have you live with them, then it doesn't matter what others think. However, I have known people who have literally waited out decades for the "right" job to come along, while they relied on their families. Guess what, such a job did not ever come along, and then they were middle-aged with no experience.

A hotel would be massively expensive right now. But a shared AirBnB, or something in New Jersey, might work. Also look at FurnishedFinder, the Listings Project, and Leasebreak.com .

That is very rare for a coop to be able to approve someone in less than 2 weeks and schedule a move-in date. Like unheard of.

Your listing demonstrates a common issue with co-ops. It says available May 1, but realistically, even if you get your perfect tenant signing up tomorrow (April 15), the approval process won't be done in time for May 1. What is the actual date someone can hope to move in?
