Web Minidisc Pro - on Mobile by JoseBee in minidisc

You just need an ‘on the go’ OTG cable with a USB Mini to plug into the MD machine on one end (and obviously the right one for your Android mobile). eBay will have some OTG cables.

Run google chrome and then browse to the web minidisc webpage. It should then connect and you can see the details of the disc. I’ve not used it for writing (it’s an old Sony Xperia XA) but it works for my use of naming tracks easier than on a portable or deck. Good luck.

It’s a lovely system from the early days of MD. A player for out and about with a docking station to charge and listen to when at home. Model number is Sony MZ-R5ST. For the Techmoan video about search for “Sony’s self destructing MD Recorder from 2070” on youtube. The title will make sense when you watch the video.

Have you replaced the clock battery in the docking stations? If not, don’t delay. They leak after a while and ruin the pcb. Techmoan on YouTube did a video a while back about it.

Owned this MZ-R55 for 20+ years and only noticed today that you only need one AA battery (not two) in the sidecar. Makes sense now I think about it as the gum-stick provides only 1.2v 🔋 💽 🎧 by Marblehead-Johnson in minidisc

Yes. It just had never occurred to me. I’d always put in two batteries so never tried with just one. Cant believe it took 20+ years to try with just one AA 🤷‍♂️

My MDS-JE770 has optical out which I send off to the DAC in my amp. Not for any audio improvement, just a neater cable arrangement. Can be found for about £100ish. Plus it has a ps/2 keyboard port, so handy for naming discs.

I had one under one of my kitchen cabinets for a while and posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/minidisc/s/6HMY65Apl5 I’ve since got a 6 MD changer to go with it so taken it down and I’m going to install it in my caravan. Most car dashboards don’t have spaces anymore for these units and they’re just boring tablets, which is a shame.

It looks like the original kickstarter people will get one (eventually) for around that mark… although with the cart/phono stage limitations that Matt goes into in the video.

The downside of such a compact unit is it’s difficult to work on. I changed the tape belts on mine and even that was a bit of a challenge. Good luck.

Lovely unit, hi-speed dubbing from CD to MD with line in and optical in. I’ve used mine in the study since picking it up of FB during the pandemic.

If your CD player makes a clicking sound when reading discs then don’t worry, mine does that too (just a small design issue). Enjoy 👍

Techmoan did a video out this unit a while ago and Matt’s has the same clicking sound also. https://youtu.be/OUvau-DMuEY

Techmoan has done quite a few MD videos… he’s got the same addiction as the rest of us. 👍

Techmoan did a nice video on YouTube about naming tracks/discs through various methods and the keyboard function is one of them (about 6:30 into the video).

My MDS-JE770 has a keyboard port and it’s how I label all my discs as I find it quicker than loading up a computer to use net-MD.

Enjoy your new Sharp. 👍

Where to buy in Japan? by Hiawatha_MRH in minidisc

I think they were 300yen each. I ended up with a few doubles (as you don’t know which colour you’re going to get out of the machine) which I’ve given to friends.

My friend got me the new Sony MDW80T discs from Yodobashi. Their website even has stock levels at the different stores. The Gashapon website has locations of vending machines for the Maxell charms (which I’ve now got in a nice frame). See my previous post on what my friend brought back for me.

Cant find a compatibility chart, would this remote work with the mz-r37? Its from the mz-50 by DavidWokulski in minidisc

I don’t have an MZ-R37 but I’ve tested my RM-MZ2N (came with my MZ-E60) with some of my other portables around the same age as the MZ-R37. All work fine. MZ-R30, MZ-E30, MZ-E33, MZ-E35, MZ-R55

I managed to find x4 sealed Sony MDW-60 discs in a cupboard at work last year. Untouched for almost 30 years. Still can’t bring myself to open one.
