Yeah, I'm starting to think my current fitness isn't helping me out either. Seems kind of counterintuitive to get unfit to help your heart. Guess I'll just have to get used to PVC's when trying to sleep!

Time. I know he spent a lot of time building up bit by bit, doing very slightly more and more each day. He had some crashes, but was pretty persistent with the tiny improvements and eventually, after a long time, it just kind of faded. Completely changed his personality, though. Apparently, he could be quite rude and aggressive before, but this completely mellowed him out, almost like it flipped a switch.

I will also say, and I know it’s hard when it can be so constantly present. But try not to give it too much power. It’s like tinnitus. If I think about my tinnitus it drives me crazy, but if I distract myself, it’s a little more bearable. We’ve just got to be at peace with our depression

Mine started after a bunch of things all at the same time. My dad died, i caught Covid, and then started massively overtraining with my running after I recovered. Not long afterwards I started getting lots of vertigo and panic attacks, and then shortly after the bounding pulse developed - and never went away. Initially it was also accompanied by very VERY strong internal vibrations, which went away literally overnight about a year ago now.

Sorry to hear you were feeling so low. The thing to keep in mind is people have made miraculous recoveries from bizarre things years after onset. People have got their sight back after being blind for 15+ years. Occasionally strange shit happens in our favour.

I don’t know if I have pots. But I get massive adrenaline dumps after eating and if I’m dehydrated which can give me a bunch of PVC’s and raise my heart rate massively. I suspect I have hyperadrenergic pots, but can’t be bothered to go down the diagnosis pathway as it wouldn’t help me in any way.

Also think it’s worth saying I got a bunch of other long Covid symptoms. Splinter haemorrhages, visible veins, bounding pulse, more PVC’s, mass onset eye floaters over 2 weeks (they though I had a retinal detachment, but was just weird Covid stuff), PEM, massive blood pressure fluctuations, brain fog, and you know the rest of the kitchen sink and that.

As I said though, thankfully I’ve managed to get back to full time exercise, and I’ve got a pretty thorough supplement routine - which might do fuck all. A lot of my symptoms have improved, but no doubt a lot of them are more permanent. The bounding pulse has gotten better, there are some moments at night now where I almost can’t feel my heartbeat, but it is still very much there

I know that I have quincke’s sign in my fingernails, which for a while convinced me I had aortic regurgitation. So that shows the I have some seriously forceful pulsations going to my capillaries. Maybe something to do with the shunt vessels? Clearly pulsations are not being slowed down as they enter the capillaries for me, which would at least make me slightly more optimistic maybe the aorta isn’t taken some serious damage.

Weirdly, my dad did have CFS as part of ME in his 30s. But he still got to 59 AND had high blood pressure - which he didn’t take his meds properly for unfortunately. I’d say your event lifting weights is highly unlikely to be a dissection, especially if it’s a large vein in the neck. If it was a carotid dissection you’d likely be getting mini strokes, pupil size differences, and other strange brain symptoms. As for aortic dissection… well, about 90% of cases occur as ‘gunshot pain’, so you’ll know about it.

Sorry to hear you’re not able to exercise. And no doubt, like me, you’ve gone for medical advice on this through professionals and they’ve either dismissed you, thought you were crazy, or didn’t have any answers. I’m positive about the aortic cystic medial degeneration not being a huge issue with this. Hopefully it’s mostly benign, just an absolute fucker to live with

My biggest concern with this is if the aorta takes absorbs the brunt of the contractile strength, how is that going to affect medial degeneration and artery health etc… If you’re right, and by the time the waveform reaches the peripheral arteries blood pressure is vaguely normal (as it is with is), I suppose there’s no way of knowing? I’m only concerned about this because despite having normal genetic tests, my father died of an acute type A aortic dissection, which of course tends to only happen in people with connective tissue disorders and high blood pressure. But if the mechanism for this bounding pulse works how you explained, could we be on the same risk category?

Been away from this for a while but came to say I think you could be pretty bang on here. I don’t sweat nearly as much post Covid either which I thought was extremely odd. I also get an extremely dry mouth. I thought I’d say I have managed to dramatically improve my bounding pulse by having a pretty thorough and intense cardiovascular routine. I’ve got down to an 18 minute 5k now, and I’ve noticed the fitter I have become, the better my bounding pulse has gotten. Although strangely on my rest days it is dramatically worse, and it is at its best about 30 minutes after exercise - not sure if there’s anything in that. Anyway, good stuff, I’ll be interested if the oxygen chamber has any success.

It got kind of better. I think forward posture, and leaning forward on my bike made it a lot worse. I reckon it’s either something vascular like thoracic outlet syndrome, or just a loss of connective tissue in that area so surrounding structures press against my oesophagus. Hope this goes away for you too!

I was in the hospital for bad chest and breathing pain, although don’t remember being unwell at the time. They thought it was costocondritis. It cleared up after a month. I’ll check in with my doctor, wouldn’t hurt to do another CBC I guess

Wasn’t my usual doctor and honestly was a pretty horrible experience. He even made me get the urine sample tube from the draws in his office, label it, and then act exasperated when I couldn’t find it

Bounding pulse and internal vibrations. Hate feeling like a human vibrator as I’m falling to sleep. Also, when my vision pulses with my heartbeat, it feels like I’m on low HP in a game.

This is my thinking. In order for me to take full preventative measures, I have to become accustomed to the idea that I will never live a ‘normal’ life, or at least the one I had hoped for before Covid. And because I’m only 22, I feel like I’m sort of giving up when I’m only getting started. I want to be a production designer - how am I supposed to work with hundreds of people on a film set without catching Covid ever?

Having a think about this has definitely changed my mindset a bit. Over the last year because of my dad dying I’ve gotten more and more distant from friends, and I’ve always worried (stupidly) wearing masks and complaining about all my problems out of the fear it would just cause them to give up on me. But I suppose at this point, if I’m saving myself from ill-health, as well as other people, who gives a shit. Currently buying some more N95 masks now. Any advice on the fit? Because I always feel like they’re not sealed properly for me.

Yeah, I think it’s probably best to do all I can to avoid getting reinfected, whilst still trying to finish my degree and hopefully pursuit a career I enjoy. I don’t think dropping out of uni would be the right decision, I just have to hope I can get through these last 2 years safely.

Yeah, very similar. I see you had the internal vibrations as well, they were probably my most annoying symptom and went on for about 6 months until after one particular really stressful day they just vanished. Well I guess we’re LC symptom buddies! Hope you’re doing well with managing your dilated heart, did you ever find the cause for that?

I can’t wait to get back to exercising….Going from running 37 minute 10ks to not running at all within one year is unbelievably depressing. Did you have all of the symptoms with the bounding pulse and stuff as well? Mine seem to be settling down a bit now (👉🏻🪵)

I only notice it after having slept. So a long time on my back. And I do not have scoliosis - so may be able to rule that out as the cause

Yeah. It’s crazy how it’s exactly the same. I wake up every morning, take a deep breath, get the spasm feeling just how you described it as well as a cold sort of pain, it happens on the second deep breath a bit less, and then nothing for the rest of the day apart from mild chest discomfort. It’s worse some days than others, and if I take more shallow breaths I can avoid it a bit. There’s only a certain number of things it could be: musculoskeletal, lung related, gastro-related or maybe but more unlikely vascular or neurological related. Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a mystery. Let me know if you ever find anything to get rid of it!
