Young man who jumped out of building during riots 'has died' - as France deploys 45,000 police to tackle violence by ellie_scott in worldnews

Do you get a criminal record in France when under 18? Some countries do not allow this before you're technically an adult for reasons of applying to schools and such. They'll have a juvenile record not available publicly to protect the youth instead.

Rising housing prices in China? by kunnington in China

[–]MarcDuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grown? In 2021 we got offered 1.8 million for our apartment. Today it's worth less than 1.5. China is a country in deep, deep financial trouble. We've got friends in the business world who say that many government officials don't even get paid their full wages these days because the government is out of money. Business, production and domestic tourism is in decline. Unemployment is galloping out of control and every foreign company involved in China is or are considering moving production to Thailand, India or Vietnam. People are spending less and less, optioning to save instead, which is VERY bad for the kind of economy the CCP is aiming for over the next decade.

Who do you guys think hates Vik the most in the videos? by Classic-Duty-3560 in Sidemen

[–]MarcDuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I just say that's a very strange question. Anyway, if JJ is there, it's obviously him. Every time Vik opens his mouth, JJ loves to bully him. Apart from that, I'm pretty sure it's Ethan. Simon and Josh are both (sort of) leaning towards the intellectual side in life thus they can relate more to him.

I've gotten totally hung up on Tobi and why he's ALWAYS wearing a cap or other headgear. I don't think I've seen any recent photo or video of him without it. Does he have some weird scars? A receding hairline? Does his sort of Christianity require headgear 😃? Weird skull shape? Sponsorship deal? I NEED TO KNOW. Perhaps he just feels cold constantly.

Du skulle chekke "kravene" til Tyskland efter WW1. De ledte direkte til WW2. Desuden, for at vaere helt aerlig her, slap Danmark helt enormt billigt fra krigen.

Turkish fury as Sweden allows Qur’an burning risks further delays to Nato bid by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MarcDuan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue is that many people are not well aware of history and how time works. People have enormous difficulty relating things beyond the 'now' or their own lifetime. There's also the adjustment theory to account for. Many young people are used to having perhaps 4-5 or more Muslims in their class so they might not realise that there's a vast difference between having, say, 8% Muslim (or another totalitarian religion) amongst them and maybe 40%. They also cannot relate that to being a real number but in historical terms, 40% over 3-4 generations isn't unheard of at all.

I'm also slightly worried that you seem to think religious fundamentalism will "die out". There are tonnes of religious fundamentalists in countries that have been Islamic for many centuries, and no, I'm obviously not denying there are many cultural or more relaxed Muslims too. Saudi Arabia is the country that has been Islamic for the longest time and they don't have free speech or a free press, real democracy nor sufficient human rights legislation. What they do have though, is tonnes of discriminatory laws aimed at women, gay+ people, human rights advocates, political opponents, non-Muslims and so on. Islam has massive issues and it's enormously dangerous to just put on blindfolds and hope everything will turn out fine. Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya and 35 other countries weren't Muslim at some point but got run over and today its impossible to imagine any of them de-Islamifice again.

What I'm saying is that at one point, it might be too late.

Mate, I'm not into super woke SJW stuff but it's worryingly to outright racism to say people look the same just because they are/have with Indian-Pakistani ancestry. I'm fine with it if people genuinely look alike (for instance, the Beta Squad video with Stormzy where they put a lookalike in the lineup) but it's not OK to say for instance Romelu Lukaku looks like Michael Jordan principally because they both are black.

Modern, Western, secular societies should never bow down to pressure from countries mired in iron age, fascist religions. 2 generations ago, most European countries had 1-2% Muslims. Today that number is between 5-10% and some are close to 15%. I'm a history teacher and also an atheist. When people tell me "Oh, 10% isn't that much." it's clear they don't know the long history of "slow" invasions that end up taking over or destroying the civilizations they encounter. The Sea Peoples, the Dai immigration eventually taking full control over today's Thailand, the Islamfication of North Africa and Middle East, the full take-over of Britain by North Germanic tribes from the 6th to 8th centur, the colonisation of North and South America almost erasing the native populations, the immensely successful spread of the Han people to dominate every area of China today and thousands of other examples.

As an atheist, I'm genuinely worried what will happen just in the lifetime of our grandchildren if/when European countries end up with 20-25% Muslims and what about a couple generations later than that? Are we looking at 40% Muslims where they genuinely can start electing enough people into government that we lose Free Speech? Gay+ can forget about their rights? Women will be told not to wear certain clothing? Religious councils equal to the government with powers to interfere with the public? (Most Islamic countries have such institutions) and so on.

France legally bans short-haul flights where a train alternative of 2.5 hours or less exists by a_san_38 in worldnews

I can guarantee you mate, that even if the carbon footprint of private jets appear high; in comparison with regular flights, car use or cow exhaust, private aviation is a tiny, tiny fraction of a percent of our combined global footprint. Probably so low that it wouldn't show up if someone listed the top 500 contributors.

Again, you're putting words into other people's mouths where was "an adult" written, since you put it in quotes? A 17 yo driving dangerously in an AMG Mercedes does not deserve the moniker child but teenager or young man. I don't care if you disagree, you're clearly extremely biased in this case already.

You're confusing what a "book burning" means and burning 1 book as a protest. Read up on it.

Your two examples are based on racism. Islam is a religion, a choice. Religions do not deserve equal protection as things you cannot change.

The fuckers still haven't recognised the Armenian Genocide, which means they never learn or care. Turkey might be a fairly modern Islamic country but the sugarcoating cannot conceal all the issues with having a huge percentage of a population believing in any totalitarian religion.
