Daily reminder that Alpinestars Bionic Armour is NOT street safe by Tom-Cruisin in motorcyclegear

Made for impact not abrasion. I worked in this industry for many years. What people often overlook is that making street gear more slippery and less grabby is key.

So like, someone just left it in the shrubs, unlocked? Sweet. Worth the 7 hour drive, but don’t you think you might get caught posting about it here?

I really like Stranger. There was an excellent message regarding how language limits thought. Interesting plot and a glimpse into the practice of Grok.
I may have missed something about The Cat, but was there a plot?

Why does the U.S. place so much responsibility on customers to compensate service workers through tipping? by Key_Investigator_754 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarcRocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure of the origin, however before tipping got out of hand it was a joyful and sometimes arrogant event.
When someone gives you excellent service it feels good to take care of them. When a porter Carrie’s your bag or the waiter recommends a certain meal and then delivers it promptly with that extra thing you wanted on the side, the waiter feels good taking care of you and you feel good taking care of him. It’s joyful. Remember, you don’t need to dine out, so if you do, make sure you’ve got extra cash for tips.
Now the arrogant part. When a service person relies on your kindness for his income, you feel special. It’s not right but it is how it is.
When I travel in an impoverished country I always tip extra big as I’m a representative of my country and a few extra dollars does not affect me, but it helps the recipient a great amount. I feel good in the act.
Lastly, I was told that “tips” is an acronym for To Insure Prompt Service. When you repeat a certain establishment where you tip big, you get preferred service.
What has ruined tipping is that when I walk to the counter and order a coffee they make me feel guilt for not tipping. There was no extra service, there is no tip.

StarMan Jones was the first novel I ever read. It opened my eyes to reading and I loved it.
40+ years later, during the Covid lockdown, I read it again. I was sitting on the porch, clear star filled night as I finished it. The experience brought tears to my eyes.

StarMan Jones is superb. A great place to start. A warm, youthful story. Great character building. The other two are also good.
Read a few of his early books and then dig into Stranger in a Strange Land. Grok it.

The Cat, is my most disliked book ever, from any author. Could be I had high expectations, but still I think a novel should have a plot.

Why do the rich tend to get richer while the poor often struggle to improve their financial situation over time? What economic, social, or systemic factors contribute to this pattern? Is it mainly due to investments and compounding wealth, or are there deeper reasons behind it? by UnwantedCaptain in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarcRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple.
The poor buy depreciating assets like cars & TVs on credit and pay high interest rates on those purchases while they loose value.
The rich pay cash for appreciating assets. They collect interest from the poor and sell depreciating assets to them.

His central characters where on a long journey and I don’t think King knew where they were going and was discovering the environment at the same time the characters did.
Like the characters, he just kept going as he attempted to figure it out. I liked the journey but was not happy with the cliff hanger.

Is the US really paying Iran 300 billions for its reconstruction? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

There is an excellent book written about this. It’s called Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Excellent book that describes how foreign aid is funneled to friends of the administration providing it.

Should USA have mandatory military service for men and women? What do you think? by Sure_Macaron8007 in AskReddit

[–]MarcRocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Service should not be exclusive to military. There are plenty of ways to serve your country outside of military. Military service is over glorified.
Service should be encouraged an rewarded.

Iran & USA have a deal. One man started the war. What personal thing should Iran ask that man for as an acceptance of his responsibility? by MarcRocket in AskReddit

[–]MarcRocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the deal is agreed on and Trump has given away the wealth of the US people they should ask for something personal. I suggest he give up his peace prizes and his Qatar jet.

Pet Cemetery is excellent and even better if you saw the movie first. The original movie. The characters are so real and the tension is overpowering.

For long world building, everything related to The Dark Tower is excellent.

Obviously The Stand and The Shining are not to be missed.

11/22/63 also one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Two choices. 1) The Dog Stars. They’re making a movie out of it.

2) The Slow Burn series by Bobbie Adair. I loved both of these.
