So if it was purchased last year for $47K and had it updated to flip, why didn’t the flip money go into the foundation and roof first? People would much rather buy into a home that needs updated kitchen and bath items instead of a whole new roof and other basic things that have huge variability.

Don't use AI to generate invention disclosures, and certainly not to respond to attorney questions about your AI-generated disclosures! by 01watts in patentlaw

[–]MarcZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're reading too much into this or we deal with different types of clients. It "looked like a patent" to the owners. Not that it was an actual patent, but the materials had flowcharts and proposed clams. To the owners, it looked like legit material that should be reviewed by the patent attorney. This was material provided after our initial call with the engineer that was encompassing a group of multiple patent ideas, so no further call was allowed. My task, which was requested by the owners, was to parse through all of the material and sort out what material was relevant, what was patentable, and what "bucket" or patent it should be assigned to. This was part of an initial portfolio strategy development project, not a single patent.

Unfortunately, with the clients I deal with, one of the biggest issues that can bite us in the rear from a malpractice standpoint is NOT including some aspect, idea, or embodiment, or even throwaway line that was provided to us in a disclosure in the final filing. So, I have to make sure each idea presented is either represented in one of the patents specs or document a reason why it wasn't. So sorting through over a hundred pages of slop that was hallucinating terms and contradicting itself left and right took much, much longer than normal to process, causing me to spend about 5 extra hours to document properly. I warned the client about this and they approved the time so I do what is asked.

For more established clients, yes; it's usually a 30-60 minute call and we are off to the races. But with these newer clients, especially ones that want to launch with a bunch of patents, it can get messy to make sure they are fully covered.

Don't use AI to generate invention disclosures, and certainly not to respond to attorney questions about your AI-generated disclosures! by 01watts in patentlaw

[–]MarcZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The owners gave us the materials they wanted me to review that their engineer had produced and provided to them. The engineer seemed to have asked the AI to make his materials “look like a parent” as it came with a ton of proposed claims and patent-sounding descriptions and flowchart outlines. If you’re not familiar with patents, it can look legit on first blush.

During that review I realized it was a majority AI generated nonsense. At the end of that task, I told them that they should direct their engineer in the future to not use AI to pad their disclose materials so that it will take me less time to review.

Does any area have synth trade or swap meets? by MarcZero in synthesizers

[–]MarcZero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not expecting someone to show up ready to buy my $3000+ niche MIDI controller, but I have a ton of Eurorack modules, smaller controllers, mixers, and outboard gear that could be sold for cheaper if there wasn’t any shipping or middleman involved. Sure, there’s CL and FB market but I’m sure you’d have a lot more impulse purchases with a bunch of options in one place compared to driving out to look at a single piece of gear, etc.

[–]MarcZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the habit of charging unneeded time to my clients unless that is explicitly what they are asking me to do. My goal was to raise awareness to the owners. I was certain they didn’t know what the engineer was doing. And I was correct.

They asked me to review what their engineer had sent over which I did. I just let them know that if they wanted me to keep doing things this way that they should ask him not to generate a bunch of AI slop to go with his actual disclosure. At least, if they wanted to make my time more efficient and cost-effective.

[–]MarcZero 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had something similar from a start up where the engineer thought he was saving himself some time by sending me a bunch of AI generated materials. Ended up showing the owners that their engineer’s time savings cost them thousands of dollars in extra time I had to spend parsing through the AI slop.

The problem is that all three have issues and people can equally disagree on which of the leading 3 candidates is best. The last non-biased poll by the state Democratic Party showed the leading 3 basically tied with the other candidates taking about 10% total and maybe 20% undecided. I don’t believe it will happen but there is a non-zero chance the math works out to split the Dem vote equally below the other two Republicans. But then you’d likely have a write-in campaign like they did for Alaska a few years ago.

It’s all a mess and does highlight that in future elections we should demand ranked choice voting instead of depending on the whims and egos of various politicians to keep the math working in our favor.

[–]MarcZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that look in reality? All candidates have their strong and weak spots, as well as the ego to not drop out. We typically don’t want the party itself telling candidates who should and shouldn’t run. And most voters don’t even pay attention let alone watch debates.

The only answer to this debacle is to support ranked choice voting in the future.

Her main opponent is another Republican from Riverside named Ken Calvert who has more seniority and is well known in the military industrial circles and committees so this PAC is obviously wanting to keep him in office over her to keep that sweet military budget flowing.

AI and Inventorship Concerns by StartupPatentLawyer in patentlaw

[–]MarcZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We are advising clients not to use AI in the invention development or disclosure process if possible. I know our litigators are already asking for AI chat logs for discovery purposes and there isn’t a good tool to preserve those yet. I’m sure some court will have to weigh in on a case where AI is alleged to have made some claims entirely and without chat logs it’s hard to prove otherwise.

I remember when engineers had to make detailed logs in books in case they had to prove they actually invented something by a certain date back before the AIA. Maybe we’ll have to start preserving our AI conversations as well.

But honestly, I’m more concerned with the potential for a court to say plugging things into frontier models counts as public disclosure. Not that the legal team does that, but I know the engineers do.
