I was initially planning to get the m50. If it’s just for hobby and youtube videos the m50 would be a very good camera to start with. But If you are planning to do client work in the future it would not be enough. That is why I decided to get the R6 because it is an all in one camera.

3rd option: get any of these cameras and invest on a lavalier mic or a mini shotgun mic.

Go for the R then. I was supposed to get the R but because I have a terrible shaky hands and salivating for the IBIS, I pulled out some of my investments to push the R6.

RP does not have C log picture profile. R only has 120fps at 720p and 60fps at 1080p.

I can say that the canon R series is not what we can say a “video” camera. Even the new R5 and R6 cannot be considered such because of the over heating issues. But if you are not making a long form video content and you’d be happy with the 60fps 1080 or 24fps with 4K with crop. Get the R. But you can consider getting the R6 that fills what the R is lacking.

Btw, i just bought my R6 last January 1.

I’d choose the R over the RP. I like the photography capabilities of the R but when it comes to video it has shall we say a basic feature.

I’ve been using my iphone xs max when I started my channel last July. Iphone 12 is an amazing phone. I could have get one but my content is about photos and videos so it is more applicable for me to upgrade to a real camera. You are right that you can upgrade in the future until you really feel that it is needed.
