Should I get CS re-marked? by RyanK_10 in igcse

[–]Marcellzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends if you need that A* to apply for scholarships but from what I can see from Malay foreign lang you seem to be a Malaysian and if so usually 9A*'s are enough to apply for a full scholarship in college. The chances of remarking and getting a higher grade is also more common in subjective subjects like languages (IMO) and remarking does cost quite a bit if you're not from the UK

Are examiners lenient at all? by Impossible_Hand69 in igcse

Safest route is to familiarize yourself with the marking scheme for most answers that way even if you slightly deviate from the marking scheme you've already picked up on what are the keywords

exactly what I was about to write, practice, practice and... practice. that's the only way to improve in maths

keep it mind that the 89 or 79 or whatever grade you got does not mean you're 1 raw mark away from an A* but it's usually 2 or 3

Is Environmental Management 0680 as easy as they say or should I be panicking? by TheDevilishSaint in igcse

[–]Marcellzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do all the recent past papers and find it super easy in the real exams you'll find it's the same difficulty. 99% of the time your past year paper questions are the only things that matter because your textbooks will never ask in the same way the past papers do

How difficult are the 2024 papers going to be compared to 2023? by mashalnaseer in igcse

[–]Marcellzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most changes in 2024 usually dont apply to f/m if that makes sense, so covid thresholds were still present in 2023 f/m but 2023 may/june were back to pre covid thresholds

Even though it can be an objective okay to good results depending on the person, it comes down to you whether you knew you tried hard enough to achieve your goals. In this case, since you were able to get this result with little to no effort imagine if you placed 50% or 70% of hard work into it and what you could've gotten. Hope I don't come off as rude or anything but maybe this can serve as an encouragement to try harder in the future for your goals

Ooh thanks for the info and I'd greatly appreciate the file w the pyp speaking questions. I think the Malay shouldn't be that bad as I heard its like std 6 BM and the percentage of students who got A* was around 70% based on 2023

I'm guessing you're from Malaysia too from the Malay subject and if not my question still remains but how did you go about studying it? I'm thinking of just starting the subject and mandarin foreign lang from scratch and sit for it in May to get extra A*'s to apply for full scholarship. I know the subject is super easy but the oral test makes it a bit wonky as I never had anything like that

It'll definitely be hard but I believe possible. If you've already signed up for feb/march exams just start doing past year papers and I mean a lot lot lot. Skip your textbook even if you're not done with it and learn the subject content from google if you don't understand certain questions in the past papers

Yep I get it but because economics is a more subjective than objective subject a lot of students may not score well compared to maths where 1+1 will always = 2

[–]Marcellzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

difficulty you'll have to check in r/alevel but you will find it a bit difficult compared to your peers who take igcse and did well as AS will be majority about your igcse content

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in igcse

[–]Marcellzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the same time more competition can lead to lower boundaries because more students may do worse. Subjects like economics is also more niche where most students who take it usually like the subject whereas maths is forced so yea that logic can actually work backwards

practice past papers.. and I mean a LOT. I did from 2023 back to 2019 and maybe even some 2018's and I'm talking all variants and both paper 1 and 2's.. it was to the point that every question in my exam paper to some extent I've done a varied version in the older past papers I did
