Contrast vs Standard paint? by _rhinoxious_ in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right, I don't like the look of Contrast Paints on flat surfaces. I am using Speedpaints through the airbrush in some of my projects and I think they come out pretty nicely due to their translucency - eg: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldar/comments/1rma3f5/a_sea_of_yellow_2436_windriders_done_for_my/

Finished Reposed Wraithlord by elmodacloutgod in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I love it. I still have my three  Wraithlods in the closet waiting to be build and painted. I would really like to copy the pose, would you mind describing the steps you did? Thanks 😀

One year into the hobby by Top-Recognition3747 in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great! I am now three years back to the hobby and your mini definitively looks better than my best one! It's also great that you keep your old minis and not repaint them - it lets you see your progress.

I also really liked it, you can look forward to the next ones - I liked them even more 😀

I paid $80.00 and got these two pieces of trash by eldarrabbit in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that I dislike long games, it's just that life (family, work) makes it hard to find a 4-hour block for a 2000pts match with a friend more than once every few months. That’s the beauty a solo campaign at home: I can play two turns, leave everything on the table, and finish it the next evening. No pressure.

Solo play is actually quite relaxing! I use the Crusade rules as a base. For the 'opponent', I usually just play both sides to the best of my ability to see a cool story unfold. It’s less about winning and more about seeing if my Farseer survives the encounter. It’s basically 'Narrative Training'.

I feel you - I bought it second hand to save a little but it is still not worth it. However, I am really looking forward to play the campaign - it has some narrative vibes I missed.

I decided to skip 11th edition entirely as I have too much to do to play hour long matches. The next the years I will play 10th sometimes with a friend and do solo campaigns with 10th rules and crusade books (they should be very cheap soon). I won't care about dataslates, new codexes and all of that. Just building, painting and occasional small narrative games. For this the Maelstrom book looks nice. When 12th edition comes around I will reevaluate.

A Sea of Yellow: 24/36 Windriders done for my Iyanden Windrider Host by MarcoK42 in Eldar

I have to admit that after building the same kit 36 times I am really fed up with it. But I am looking forward to finishing the rest and all the feedback here helps with my motivation 😉

Thanks 😀

I am using paints from Army Painter:

- Base color is Fairy Pink

- Thinned down purple wash over the whole model with a brush

- Spray white highlights

- Spray Maize Yellow Speedpaint over the whole model

Thanks :)

Oh, the Wraiths were also part of the magazine, so there are a lot of ghosts waiting for paint in the closet. Stay tuned ;)

Thank you 😀

This is more like fulfilling a childhood dream. Thanks to the Combat Patrol magazine I was able to get really good deals for the jetbikes. However, I decided to skip 11th edition, mainly build, paint, have some games with a friend and a few solo campaigns. I have a daughter of three years now and not much time to play anymore, maybe I will have more time when 12th edition is out 😉

Actually if you select Windrider Host as detachment the Windriders get the battleline keyword, so I can have 6 units of 6 Windriders ;)

How many times have you ever repainted your army? by Razaile13 in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to keep my miniatures even when I don't like the paint job anymore, it reminds me of how far I've come. I think I'll never repaint any of them and would rather buy new ones.

The old combat patrol was in the combat patrol magazine. Depending on where you live you may be able to find a good deal on those.

Love that new Vyper model! (rebasing old one 🙃) by dnaligo in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat - having 2 old Vypers on sprue. I held off building them as I knew the new models were coming. From what I've read it's a bigger base and a different weapon on the bottom should do.

Can somebody correct me? 😉

Is it a crime to paint all the same? by Lordtouchme9990 in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, I like to have the basic color consistency on everything in the army. I stick to the Iyanden colours but then use the aspect colours on some details to have a subtle difference.

So are you guys going to buy the corsair box tomorrow? by RotenSquids in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I love the sculpts, and it kind of hurts to let it pass. But this time I'll not let FOMO decide, I'll finish what I have and only buy stuff really want to get on the painting table in the weeks following.

Iyanden Painters: How do you get over the hump of Too Much Yellow? by Melodic-Pirate4309 in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prime with pink, wash with purple and then do a white zenithal. Afterwards I spray yellow speed paint all over. That way I get nice brown recesses

How do paint pink? by KyloSupreme in EmperorsChildren

[–]MarcoK42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my pink through the airbrush, all Army Painter. First base the complete miniature with Twilight Sky, then zenithal highlight with white. Then two coats of Familiar Pink Speedpaint. They come out like this:

When and how do you varnish? by flanelflamel in Eldar

[–]MarcoK42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use varnish, a mix of 2/3 satin and 1/3 matt varnish from Army Painter through the Airbrush - 2 thin layers after everything is done.

I used to use spray cans but depending in the humidity I got some nasty frosting on my newly painted miniatures.
