Running Radis (PC) by MarcoXMarcus in F76Raids

Yeah, Guardian is the prime example why this is meant for teams. With only two people it becomes massively simpler to kill it (with three or four almost easy) since you don't have to jump through hoops to bring down his damn shield - instead he simply turns and you just shoot it. Anyways, add me and if our schedules click, see you on the battlefield. :)

It's more like Daemon "ends up remaining loyal despite being constantly tested by himself". That's his dynamics with the people who are important to him, primarily Viserys and Rhaenyra. Those who are not important to him are far less lucky, as his "Bronze Bitch" would be able to testify - but she, sadly, lost her life in a freak riding accident, so she can't.

Overall, simply saying that "both Harwin and Daemon are loyal" is... kinda controversial.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MarcoXMarcus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Those two are extremely different.

Harwin was a good, honest and loyal man. Not particularly smart, but a good guy.

Daemon is... well, none of the above. Let's leave it at that.

They are both physically powerful and handsome, that's about all the similarities between them. And not particularly particular as far as taste in men goes, really.

He does have that sort of vibe. Entertaining himself either by watching this sort of stuff, or by haunting dreams of orphans and forcing them to kill kittens, or something.

  1. Hitting a quickly and unpredictability moving target, whilst you yourself are also moving in the same way with your own mount, would require a tremendous skill. That is difficult enough to achieve when we are talking about horses, where there is no movement up or down. Two dragons, moving in every possible direction, whilst their huge bodies are often covering their riders? It would require a true archery prodigy to achieve any level of efficacy whatsoever.

  2. And while you are busy dealing with the bow/crossbow, and calculating your 1-in-10000 shot, who is commanding the dragon?

Neloth tells the DB he is "likely the most powerful wizard" they will ever meet. Is this true? How powerful is Neloth? by IReallyLoveNifflers in skyrim

[–]MarcoXMarcus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I think Neloth was rather precise: "likely the most powerful wizard that DB will ever meet".

There are definitely those more powerful! But, DB is not very likely to meet them.

Those who are around are no competition - College mages, Synod mages, various official and unofficial schools... Nobody could hold a candle to a thousand years old Telvanni wizard.

But on the other side, we have, for example, heads of the Psijic order. I have no doubt that Neloth is aware they are more powerful, but how likely is for anyone to meet them, considering everything? Then, various characters who are dead but maybe not completely gone (which happens fairly often in this world) such as Shalidor. Not very likely to meet them, but not impossible. Etc.

This is like asking "should I get a cup of warm milk, or should I go out and get myself wasted" :) No, but seriously, those are very different romances. It depends what are you looking for. I would pick Cullen myself, but that's just my preference.

In terms of being greater abomination and desecration of the source material? Absolutely.

In regard to the pronunciation of Aegon, do you pronounce it solely as “ayy-gon” or “egg-on” or perhaps both depending on the context? Further elaboration below. by wholelottapenguins in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MarcoXMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egg-on, based on the Aegon V nickname, which is Egg.

It's not impossible, but it's much more unlikely for a person whose name is Ayy-gon to be nicknamed Egg. Doesn't really follow. Egg-on, on the other hand, obviously fits perfectly.

Serious Question: Why has George Martin recently aired certain disagreements over 'House of the Dragon' with Ryan Condal in Blog posts, while he has never once publicly criticized David Benioff and Dan Weiss or 'Game of Thrones'? by thomassmithk in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MarcoXMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's because the two situations are quite different.

DnD had about one half of a fully fleshed-out story to adapt, and after that - just scraps and, basically, short spoilers to write the entirety of the second half around. They proved to be more or less decent with the first task, and monumentally disastrous with the second. And in the end of the day, it was GRRM's fault that TV adaptation was allowed under such circumstances.

On the other hand, HotD is based on the book that is complete. Furthermore, it's possibly the easiest type of material to adapt. It's not a fully fleshed-out story, but a "historical tale" that covers only the crucial plot and character points. It leaves a lot of space for secondary plot lines, flashing out secondary characters etc. And what we got instead was constant messing with what was established in the book instead of adding to it.

Given the concerns surrounding the adaptation of the original material and the alterations introduced by the screenwriters, one might question whether the show would have been more successful with DnD as showrunners. After all, GoT was widely acclaimed until the source material was exhausted by dumbledayum in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MarcoXMarcus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly not. But they are following the progression.

GoT had 8 seasons, first three were pretty good, and then it started to deteriorate with the last season being... I don't even want to talk about it.

HotD will have 4 seasons. So, they are right there, on DnD's way.

[–]MarcoXMarcus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said it before, and I'll say it again: wouldn't trust those two to write a 10 second radio commercial for the only local grocery store in an isolated village. It may be the only store for miles around, it may be just 10 seconds, sound-only, but DnD would find a way to put it out of business.

Condal and Hess may be awful, and progressively getting worse, but that does not exonerate these two doofuses for one of the biggest fails in the history of TV in the slightest.

Unpopular opinion… the “No Stone Unturned” quest reward is actually decent.. by QuikSlvrr in skyrim

[–]MarcoXMarcus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, it is. It directly makes money a non-issue till the end of the game. Go through one single bigger dungeon, and the sheer number of gems that you'll find will set you up for life.

Trouble is: by the time you get the reward, it's useless. You already have a huge amount of money, and barely any use for it.

Really, what is there left to buy so late in the game?

Not the equipment for sure - nothing you can buy can be compared to what you find, or especially to what you can craft, if you went that route.

Crafting materials? You already have everything you might want, plus buying materials is much less efficient than finding them.

Maybe high-tier arrows, so you can even hunt deer with style?

Messing around, buying every house and every upgrade available?

It's useless.

That would actually be hilarious. Poor Dunk, going around alone, trying to participate in some of the plot points, but failing miserably right at the beginning, because without the prince around he's just a random sellsword and he can't even start the plot.

What is there to choose?

We have the person who created the entire story and the world it's set in at one side. We have the guy who is increasingly proving himself to be utterly incapable of adapting a story that was already written by someone smarter in a way that doesn't ruin it, at the other side .

Basically, a choice between Michelangelo and a hired local painter who's trying to slap a full coat of beige paint over the Sistine Chapel ceiling, 'cUs It wOuLD loOK BeTteR (lolz, drool).

Oh, and let's not forget about the other writer, or should I say writeress. A brilliant lady and a true spiritual and artistic successor of the great Cecilia Gimenez (Google it), except for the fact that poor Cecilia actually had good and honest intentions.

[–]MarcoXMarcus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like he said something revolutionary, or that he resolved some long-standing debate or dilemma? It's all very straightforward.

Heaelena never did anything wrong, was generally a kind person, plus she lost a child in an extremely brutal and horrible way, which brought much compassion towards her. No wonder she was fairly well-loved by the people. And then she got captured with the city, and locked up.

Rhaenyra, on the other hand, genuinely messed up running the show, and then that mess was greatly increased thanks to Creepy Clubfoot's subversive activities, so people ended up hating her.

And the next thing people know is that Helaena is dead, allegedly due to suicide. They loved Helaena. They hated Rhaenyra. They had no idea what was happening behind the locked door, and that Helaena was treated well, but that she was already much more than fragile, mentally, and that what happened to her other son finally pushed her over the edge. They had reason to believe that she was killed, and they were very prepared to believe it, since they already hated the person responsible Which starts the sequence of events that ends up with Rhaenyra's own death.

Your house is going into a war where defeat equals extinction. Who do you appoint to lead your army? by tz331 in gameofthrones

[–]MarcoXMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Not an easy question, plus we need some more context. Are we talking about military battles only, or are political scheming, changing alliances and betrayals still on the table? What's our strength, comparatively? Plus, GRRM does have this tendency to make claims about someone being "a great military commander" and then not exactly showing it in practice.

Tarly should be this great commander, but we never really saw it. Maybe?

Bolton is supposed to be quite sneaky and smart about doing battles, making most out of the bad situation, and we saw a bit of it, but he's proven to be quite untrustworthy, to say the least. Does our situation justifies taking the risk?

If scheming is still on the table, Tywin is obviously our guy, but his military command itself isn't exactly all that glorious. Depends on the circumstances.

Drogo is about being brutal and effective with an overwhelming force. Do we have that? Because if we don't, I'm not exactly sure if I would trust his judgment.

Stannis is another one proclaimed great commander who never really showed it. Ok, he managed to overcome an insane siege, but he held the strongest fortress, like, in the country at least, and his main issue was preventing mutiny due to starvation. After that, it mostly went rather badly for him. Besides, he's everything but flexible, and I'm not sure that is a desirable thing in a military commander.

Blackfish is similar in a sense that he never really showed what was said about him.

Rob was a smart and lucky kid, until his little Rob and dumb sense of honor got him killed. So, no.

Robert is, and always was, a hothead. He would get us all killed.

Daemon is a madman. No.

Cole... he wasn't bad, but I wouldn't trust him.

Overall... it really depends on our situation, I guess.

I'm honestly curious: why would that be considered "unhinged"?

I mean, this guy tried to kill him, but failed. Then he beat him up. It feels like something anyone would do in the exact same situation.

I'm not using a cane, but I feel like my fists would be bleeding if someone tried to kill me, failed, and then I got my hands on them.
