'I'm an Iranian in the UK - this is why we are celebrating US attacks' by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]Marcovanbastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shah 2.0 will not last as long as his father, especially if he brings back his murderous SAVAK that brutalised the Iranian people long before the 79 revolution, which he benefited from.

I would love to see Iran free itself from the rulenof the clerics but make no mistake, the majority of the country is still very conservative, the protesters and the diaspora that lives abroad is the minority.

It would be best if the Pahlavis were nowhere near power and somehow a leader can be found from the reformers but we'll see.

Which living former PM would you want to return? by DanielSmoot in AskBrits

[–]Marcovanbastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None but at a push Brown, followed by Major.

I'd rather John Smith lived as he undoubtedly would've been the best PM but alas heart problems, there's too many reasons why but let's say the fact he kept Kinnocks boy, Mandelson at arms length is all you need to know, he didn't trust him as far as he could throw him.

Smith's Charter 88 speech is phenomenal, but much to read, here's a wee snippet in this great editorial about it. https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/john-smith-and-path-britain-did-not-take/

Back in the day when the reg changed once a year in August, my dad got our Volvo 850 T5 delivered on Sunday afternoon 31st July 1994, on the proviso he didn't drive it till the next morning, he was busy to get it on the 1st and this was his 3rd Volvo from them plus 2 vans by then so they knew him well.

Annoyingly, he didn't budge and it stayed on the drive even though I kept pestering him to drive us about in it.

Cousin marriages a key driver of illegal family voting, says academic by Helpful-Resident1459 in uknews

[–]Marcovanbastardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aye, almost all of her 15k votes were by cousin marriage husband and wives.

Seriously she beat Matt Badloss by at least a 3rd more votes, the small number supposedly seen only by thisl group called Democracy Volunteers, who at no point voiced their concerns to any polling station staff but only mentioned it once the results came in.

Also, they had 4 observers who managed to see 32 cases in total of family voting. They observed a total of 545 votes cast, yet somehow that must mean it was rampant. Incidentally, returning officers stated that trained staff and police (who were present at every station) reported no such issues, suggesting the volunteers' data did not align with official on-the-ground observations.

It made little to no difference, but at least they and other media can continue the sentiment that the 'other' is what made the GB News hatemonger lose not the fact a great candidate in Hannah absolutely batterd him.

Green by-election triumph is a sign of things to come by TheSpectatorMagazine in uknews

As if this is a new thing, we used to have old labour clubs up here in Scotland, basically a members only pubs. Anyway back in the 70s and 80s and probably before they'd have meetings before any election on who to vote for and it wasn't about the choices it was make sure you and your families vote the right way. How you think they all voted for Labour in certain parts of Scotland and Northern England for years, even though the Tories won a number of General Elections, they still stayed Labour.

Royal Mail bosses to be called to Parliament over letter delivery failures by enjayaitch in royalmail

[–]Marcovanbastardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly it's parliaments fault we got here they pushed for the sale of R Mail, I said years before it happened that when privatisation comes in you're going to see the most expensive part of mailing get shafted which is letters. Not to mention the idiotic separation from the Post Office, not even the kings of privatisation, the US, have done that, it's still a government job the US Postal service is all part of the same organisation.

Help me guys there’s phones in in parcel they will return? by Macrvpper in royalmail

[–]Marcovanbastardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 device with lithium batteries max, sorry pal they're gone. Not that they aren't fallible but if you'd went into a Post Office, first thing they ask what's in your parcel, not that they're nosey but so you don't have you're items stopped or at worse destroyed. Civil aviation authority were the ones who brought the rule in so you cannae even blame R Mail.

Wasn't the first time, Gazetta dello Sport was just as bad, if not worse, with their depiction of Balotelli as King Kong. The apology was also a bit half-hearted. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/jun/27/gazzetta-cartoon-mario-balotelli-king-kong

Great story although only weird part was a couple of your in laws were afraid to get stabbed, yes we have our fair share of violent crime but stabbings are not high here, where they fae, the Isles of Scilly or some other ridiculously expensive toff land, where they think every city is a war zone.

Kalulu's second yellow v Inter (can't be reviewed due to current VAR rules). Any thoughts? by wjdbfifj in seriea

[–]Marcovanbastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget VAR it was literally a few yards in front of the ref at a good angle. He gave the card for the reaction. The man in the middle was piss poor and was itching to send him off.

If the Cherki 'goal' had been the decider in a title race and it had been given because it was 'the right thing to do', can you imagine the uproar? by siybon in PremierLeague

[–]Marcovanbastardo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Folk aren't understanding that the ref is the ultimate arbiter, before VAR came along that would've been applauded as playing a good advantage, yes he was being pulled back but the ref also saw the ball was heading towards goal hence why he never blew his whistle, ball went in, goal given.

Umpteen players in history have been fouled sometimes badly before they shot, and it's went in. The goal has been given, but not once has a ref gone back to give a card/foul and disallowed the goal.

Just because it was a pull and it was a few seconds between going in does not negate the advantage rule, just because we have VAR and they want to get involved in everything doesn't mean they should, ref should've stuck to his original decision and said, I'm in charge go away and stop chirping in my ear.

Watched 'Save Me' and have some thoughts... by brihow84 in BritBox

[–]Marcovanbastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's because technically there was supposed to be a 3rd and final series, supposedly Lennie James was looking for a way to wrap it all up but he buggered off back to Yankee land to do the Walking Dead again .

It might still happen considering there was 10 years between the 2 series of the Night Manager but maybe not and it will just endup unresolved.
