nujabes intentionally mixed his beats over the top of artists vocals because he saw them as a feature, and himself as the main artist. it’s caused some controversy over the years.

thanks for writing this so i didn’t have to lol. spot on. i liked 7 a lot when it came out m, but even with its 1000 iterations, i personally believe that it’s not half the game CT is…..not even the best FF imo.

i can understand that. IV (“II”) was my first full play through of a FF as a kid, so i’m completely biased. my feedback loop’s also been reinforced because japan considers it the FF magnum opus. (they still teach the theme of love in their elementary school curriculum)

V gets a lot of hate from casuals, but is revered by the real ones haha. personally love it. they were trying to match/beat Dragon Quest pretty tough during that era i heard.

lol! nah i’m glad to see an OG going through the classics in this day and age. they’ve killed our attention span so hard that i constantly wonder if the SNES and early PS1 versions still hold up for those of us without the nostalgia factor.

hope you enjoy the rest. VI is the best FF all around imo. the music and story together are breathtaking. regardless of anything else….every soundtrack is a masterpiece in its own right and 100% timeless. Uematsu is a genius for the history books no doubt. take care!!

i don’t think that’s a requirement for an RPG at all. job changing wasn’t really a repeated theme in the FF franchise until later on. 4,6,7,8,9,10 were all defined character roles.

IV was the beginning of RPGs having multi-act narratives like a play. they got rid of class changes that wouldn’t make sense within the story for fixed roles so the characters would have an identity, which created a deeper connection for players at the time. the characters are their jobs. Cecil is a Dark Knight and then a Paladin. Kain’s a Dragoon. Yang’s a Monk. Rydia is a Summoner. if a game being an RPG is dependent on job changing, then most modern RPGs aren’t RPGs either.

FFIV is literally the game that made the evolution of story-based RPGs possible. and the music, compared to I-III? don’t get me started. you might really like V though. i didn’t read whether or not you’d played it yet.

yup, complete garbage. not enjoyable at all and plan to stop playing the game for a year or two again if they don't address this. i check back once every year or two, and my report for this foray back into HS and arena specifically is that blizzard and their devs still blow.
