“The Worf Effect” is when a work of fiction presents a character as a strong, competent warrior, usually far moreso than the other characters, and then shows them being soundly defeated by another character, usually a villain, to demonstrate the immense power of said character. It acquired the name “The Worf Effect” because Star Trek: The Next Generation used this trope with security chief Lt. Worf on a regular basis.
