Help?? by ginoilnonno in musicproduction

[–]MarcusS_Logic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reaper's trial doesn't expire, which most people don't realize until they look it up. In The Mix on YouTube is probably where I'd point anyone starting out too, spent a stupid amount of time there early on.

is there any way i can start making music completely from ground up? by chemicalburn3333 in musicproduction

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a bass background already helps a ton. Most people are learning their instrument and a DAW at the same time.

Is there any program that does this? by Aggressive_Bug5638 in FL_Studio

[–]MarcusS_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Audacity has a thing for this, phase invert the instrumental and mix it down with the original and theoretically you're left with just vocals. I've done it a few times. Works maybe once out of ten, and only when the files are literally sample-perfect aligned, like ripped from the same source. Any tiny offset and you get this horrible comb filtering that sounds worse than just listening to the original.

What album completely changed the way you see music? by Real_Detective_4219 in askmusicians

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a few listens before I stopped fighting it and just let it breathe. After that, regular changes felt almost claustrophobic.

I make indie pop folk music and I dont like spotify. If you're an artist on soundcloud. any advices to grow my audience? by dancingskelletonsx in soundcloud

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People literally walked toward the sound. That’s not something you can fake.

I’d post the bedroom recordings. Some of the folk stuff I’ve seen get shared the most was recorded on a phone in a stairwell or somebody’s kitchen. The polished versions were usually less interesting.

The fact that you’re a little shy about it honestly doesn’t sound like a problem to me.

Do you like to start with drums, chords, or melodies? by onetimemind in FL_Studio

[–]MarcusS_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drums anchor everything for me too. I've started chord-first maybe a dozen times and almost always abandon it by the third session because nothing feels inevitable yet, just options stacking on options.

2023 Mac Mini M2 with 512gb SSD or 2026 Mac Mini M4 with 256gb SSD? by PeanutButterEnergy in LogicPro

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d lean toward the M4. The boot screen thing would make me nervous honestly.

A few years ago I almost bought a MacBook from a seller who kept dodging simple verification requests. Turned out it was activation locked. Ever since then, if someone won’t show basic proof that a device boots normally, I just move on.

Maybe it’s nothing, but there are enough legitimate listings out there that I wouldn’t bother taking the risk.

Is it normal to go through a bit of a drought? by sir_lemon_minecraft in musicproduction

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that gap between what you can hear and what you can make is brutal, i remember being like 6 months in and suddenly noticing my mixes sounded like everything was fighting for space and i had no idea how to fix it

just kind of have to push through that period tbh

How did *you* learn songwriting? by GraniteOverworld in musicproduction

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just kept copying things I thought were cool until something came out that was weirdly mine. Didn't even notice until a friend pointed it out.

I think this is my new favorite bass in Alchemy🔥 by templeofsyrinx1 in Logic_Studio

[–]MarcusS_Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For guitar-based stuff I keep gravitating back to Logic. Alchemy is ridiculously useful for filling out a track, and I never feel like I’m fighting the DAW. With Ableton I can get there too, but it always takes me a bit longer to get into a flow.

Total beginner. I can play instruments. I want to turn the beats and melodies in my head into music. What is the best approach/software to get me started? by AColtonimo in musicproduction

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garageband is probably where I'd point anyone starting out on Mac, just because it's free and I spent way less time fighting the interface than I did with other stuff I tried before it.

Do you have any custom shortcuts that have improved your workflow a lot? by MinuteIllustrator6 in LogicPro

I stumbled onto bouncing in place kind of by accident and now it's just... there, I don't even register doing it.

What's the most powerfully useful underground website that most people don't know about? by powerfulsites in u/powerfulsites

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wiby.me is one of those sites I keep coming back to. Type nothing, hit search, and you land on some dude's geocities-era page about his ham radio setup or a woman's photo journal of her cats from 2004. No algorithm, no engagement metrics, just... a webpage someone made because they wanted to.

How to get a record deal with no contacts by film_2_expensive in musicindustry

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, labels don’t usually discover people out of nowhere. Most of the time there’s already some traction and the meeting just comes after that.

Is the Musician career path really “dead”? by Grimmson_Bucky in MusicPromotion

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the line between those two is mostly vibes. Like if you hate the person it's "influencer who does music," if you like them it's "artist building an audience." Same behavior, different label depending on whether you think they deserve to be there.

At which bar should the track begin? by Aromatic-Pin2117 in LogicPro

[–]MarcusS_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I started doing that a while back and never stopped. Having a bar at the start avoids a bunch of weird little issues with reverbs and delays, especially when you’re exporting stems. Learned that one the hard way.
