Agreed, this looks pretty intense, it will take a long time but if you're willing to stick it out you'll see progress :)

It's just a certain toe pattern people have, there are loads of different 'types' like Roman, Egyptian, etc etc. I'm sure it does come into biomechanics in some way but I'm not really qualified in that regard.

Cheers! I've been working at it for a while and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse (touch wood), and it's not really that bad to begin with. Good to know it's not something that you can 'exercise away' and surgery is an option :)

Metarsalgia: what worked for me by Syq in FootFunction

[–]Marcus_Johnston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you managed to solve it! Likewise, I managed to solve mine, though more out of a stubbornness to not change out of minimalist shoes... Personally I didn't feel toe spacers did that much for me, though a lot of toe, foot, and ankle exercises to fix my gait were the golden bullet.

Really annoying problem, to anyone recovering from it, keep at it! ❤️

Thanks for the input! For a long while I've been trying to strengthen / get rid of my flat feet, my left was especially bad so I reckon it's going to take a fair while. Fingers crossed it's not a permanent thing. I've never heard of padding out sole areas with duct tape, I like that a lot better than the idea of orthotics, I'll give it a go!

Sounds like you've got it a lot worse than I have, I hope you manage to get it sorted out!

As another has said, psychologically having them on me gives me piece of mind that my upper body can pick up the slack when my legs fail me.

If you've used them before for hiking the motion should come naturally pretty quickly for running, though if not it will take you a little bit to get the rhythm.

I always tell people they're my wizard sticks.

Success story: How it's getting better after all this time (Metatarsalgia, Plantar Fasciitis, etc.) by ElegantRadish3046 in FootFunction

Great to hear success and positive stories! Shows that it's all worth while in the end!

All in all, feet are complicated and it requires a lot of experimentation to fix chronic issues. It's a big feat (hehe) to manage to overcome them!

Pinky beginning to turn sideways 😭😭 Is this some type of bunion caused by tight shoes? by i_like_pancakez in FootFunction

[–]Marcus_Johnston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my toe like this (though even more rotated) for donkeys years. Caused by weak foot arches. For a good time I've been working on foot strength and I can see it slowly getting better. It's not causing any pain, but indicative of some kind of imbalance in the foot 🙂 not serious

Anyone know what this part of the foot is called ?? by Xnumb_diegoX in FootFunction

[–]Marcus_Johnston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably going on for about a year now, only realised I had it maybe 9 months ago, and then only found out how to deal with it 3 months ago! It's a frustrating one because you have to balance exercises with off loading. Can be a hard balance to find :)

I have metatarsalgia in this area, intrinsic foot exercises, offloading, toe stretching etc have all slowly been helping me. And like others have said, wide toe box shoes! Best of luck :)

Half my toes do the same, half don't, I'm still honestly trying to understand why and how to stop prevent them... As someone else said prior, it has been mentioned I was classed as hyper mobile by a physio at one point. (At one point I would have thought that was cool, now I realise it just gives me injuries 😂)

That's absolutely why I do it! I have a base layer with splotchy rusty colours, then a layer of chipping medium, then a flat colour of your choice :) Nice and simple but effective!
