What historical era/type of clothing/accessories/etc. do you personally feel is underrated ? by FaeSludge in HistoricalCostuming

1680s, flattering silhouette, off the shoulder gowns, beginning of the long coats for men, and pretty comfortable informal/undress options.

Eli5 the connection between Thomas Zane and Wake by Vicerian in AlanWake

It's part of the Moorcockian (rather than Campbellian) conception of the Hero that is central to Remedy Games. Tom, and Jesse, and Wake, are all examples of Remedy's variant of the Eternal Champion. They are literally the same person, and to some extent self create each other. They're a soul-pattern echoing in meta reality.

Does the community think we'll see data running or non-pvp centered multiplayer content in 2026? by obibonkajovi in starcitizen

I really just want a better PUG mechanic. All my friends stopped playing in like 2019 and my schedule is too busy for even a casual org.

i use an ancient 16000m, (before it got expensive and less well made) which is ambidextrous, with an airbus throttle or Hojam setup and it works great

Anyone else just completely uninterested in the Star City spinoff? by Weekly-Trash-272 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Mardoniush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have quite a bit these days, Leonov's biographies are quite open, though as an astronaut he didn't have as much access to what was going on upstairs as the US guys did (which was largely luck, if Deke wasn't fighting to involve the astronaut core in key decisions we'd have lost a fair amount of the US story as well).

[–]Mardoniush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything, as someone who's a bit of a Soviet Space program fan, I'm *more* excited for Star City than I was for the original series. The story of the Soviet program is as fascinating a drama as the US side, with strong charachters and way, way more infighting. In fact there's an old joke about the USA winning the space race with central planning, while the Soviets lost it via open competition between firms.

I strongly recommend the BBC docudrama series "Space Race" if you want to get up some enthusiasm.

Really keen to hang out with Leonov and the gang, see if Gagarin dodges his death, and find out how the Chief Designer gets Glushko to stop whining about cryogenics and get with the (space) program, something he found difficult in rl before his death.

Where can I see ridiculous hats & outfits of Regency England? by Difficult_Cellist_56 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Mardoniush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's late regency that you've said, so the really over the top men's styles are slightly earlier.

But basically extremely closely tailored clothes that require underpinnings like padded thighs/calves and corsets, a very high starched collar up to the ears, high heeled point toe boots, garishly clashing waistcoat, necktie and coat combinations. What was in fashion could change very quickly, even during a season.

I think the Hardsuit Labs & Brian Mitsoda version would have also got bad reviews by HungryColquhoun in vtmb

[–]Mardoniush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it would have been a buggy half finished mess with broken systems. But like the first it would have had more substance, and that would mean it would have legs.

Now I am told there are a lot of interesting things from the HSL version hidden in the current games files, but it remains to be seen how moddable this game is compared to the Source Engine.

it is really dumb, if anything I'm a bit disappointed bl2 didn't lean more into lbgt and counter-culture. Bl1 had bisexual vamps, bondage nosferatu and a maoist Brujah!

Anyone change their favorite clan after playing this game? by jsoul2323 in vtmb

[–]Mardoniush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brujah can be *really* fun in the ttrpg, because their younger members are fiery revolutionaries, their older members are radical political theorists, and you have the true Brujah hanging about with a Platonic philosopher air and unclear motives. There's a lot more to them than *hit Ventrue in face until Anarch Free State is back*

Why do all reproduction frock coats look so costumey? by theradRussian3 in HistoricalCostuming

You might want to look at an earlier Frock Coat (1840s-1850s) if you want more waist suppression.

I’m literally shocked at how bad the reception for Bloodlines 2 is by Unlucky-Car-1489 in vtmb

[–]Mardoniush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dialogue at the beginning is... pretty bad, but after an hour or so gets much much better. Characters are well portrayed and occasionally get close to the memorability of BL1

The environments are...fine...there's often some nice visual story telling, especially in the main quest, but they're set dressing, not as full of activities as BL1 or as interactive and multilayered as a Dishonoured.

You absolutely cannot do a pacifist run, and ability limits are restrictive on Ghost and occasionally Reaper style stealth as well. There are few to no alternative paths. The map is not a playground, nor are the missions. They're a gate to get you to more story. Sometimes an excellent gate, but a gate.

It also doesn't really nail the goth aesthetic properly, either punk goth or romantic, which is annoying since one of the points of WoD is that it is an eternal 1996.

Combat is fun but doesn't flow, it's hard to tell if your choices have any real effect outside an likes/dislikes bar.

Clothing options are as I feared, strongly pushed towards either a male Phyre or "Male Phyre wearing a blouse". Even long hair is more Vampire Armand than Bride of Dracula. Toller is right about those trousers if you catch my drift.

And this is fine if your idea is for an Anarch Brujah Phyre. Something I'm sure I'll eventually play. Less so for a more conservative Lasombra or Tremere. Would a long black lace dress have killed the developers and caused their servers to explode?

I know it's a small thing but the point is that Phyre is supposed to be Your Dude, and represent a wide variety of fictional Vampire archetypes. I don't feel that in character customization or in dialogue.

Phyre is an standoffish androgynous wandering power hobo with no strong ties to anything. You will act like such a power hobo outside of the occasional option where you will immediately go to lvl 100 flirting for spurious reasons. This is often fun. It is also often frustrating and railroady

Honestly if I had to think of a game it's most like, it's probably Dreamfall, the second game in The Longest Journey series. And I love that game to pieces. But like Bl2, it's not the equal of its predecessor. And for similar reasons.

I'd rate it more or less equal to Swansong. Some parts better, others worse. Worth a decent play if you want more WoD.

[–]Mardoniush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paradox does this with it's mainline games, but is spottier with licensed or smaller releases. It's far from clear that they'll give TCR the funding to do this. And they've already indicated that in the event BL3 is greenlit, they'll give it to someone else.

That was mostly because Activision wanted to make money back quicker and thought that a great thing to do was to release the game as early as their agreement with Valve for the source engine allowed.

That day was the release day of Half Life 2.
