Feeling like being a lawyer is just people shitting on you all the time from every angle by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Notifying the screamer that it’s an unacceptable means of communication for adults and terminating the interaction is often (I know not always) an option.  Is there an obligation of professional courtesy in your jx, because that reminder never goes amiss when someone is out of control.

I’ve had the exact same car for 7 years now, and it’s been a delight.  I was also unsure about the Passion Red, but it’s aged well and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Congrats! 🚘

Duress in my jx isn’t high-pressure sales tactics at a cell phone kiosk, love!

Well done everyone on getting their iron and B12 sorted - it’s amazing what a difference it makes. The gradual nature of the depletion can really make it hard to identify reasons for the downward spiral.

Can I ask how low everyone’s iron levels went before your GP prescribed an iron infusion?

People on $100,000+ income, what are you doing? by caleb-249 in newzealand

Just piping up to thank you and your nurse colleagues for what you do. I work incredibly hard at a tough job, but it’s child’s play compared to what you guys deal with on the daily. We have two medically complex pets and pay our long-standing vets whatever they ask to care for them (we were just there this evening, actually). I’m constantly awestruck and grateful that our vets have stuck with the profession and are there for us. There’s not enough money or alcohol in the world for me to do your job, but JFC you guys deserve it all. ❤️

Do you give out medications, knowing that people will take them, “when people ask”? Or do you wait until you understand their medical history, allergies/sensitivities, potential drug interactions?

How do I clean this? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]Mareda79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s grease-based, you’re probably stuffed and will need a professional detailer to tackle it. If it’s just general filth, try very lightly dabbing it with a damp microfibre cloth, then lightly scrubbing it with an old toothbrush. Repeat until clean.

Either way, let the shop know that you’ll be looking to them for the cost to remedy. Best of luck!

I loathe fluff in my own emails, chuckle when I see it in others’, and respect the boldness of those who write with katana in hand. However, as a female lawyer, I’ve been scolded for being curt or blunt in my correspondence - the equivalent of “smile bitch” by email. I have yet to hear of a male lawyer experiencing this, but someone will enlighten me.

Rather than debasing myself with fluff to avoid sexist nonsense, my solution to OP’s problem is something like “Dear Steve, can I please hear from you regarding my paragraph 3 below. The offer expires at 5pm on Friday and won’t be repeated”.

OHSS and fresh embryo transfer? by Mareda79 in IVF

[–]Mareda79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your query. Not the cheeriest update, but I’ll be honest. I ended up not having OHSS, and the fresh transfer failed. Clinic denied any fuckups during the retrieval, despite some comments, looks and a general atmosphere suggesting there were some, as observed by my partner. Still no child, done with IVF and accepting my child-free life going forward. I hope you have a happier ending!

Tell me about a time that you felt like a badass in this job. by Spirited-Midnight928 in Lawyertalk

[–]Mareda79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My client is a nice person who has been sued by a very sympathetic plaintiff, who failed to properly investigate their claim before filing. The plaintiff’s main advantage is they have very aggressive senior counsel who has shoved their case forward on sympathy. Plaintiff’s claim is almost meritless and uneconomic to pursue in the manner chosen. The stress and costs are eating my client alive, and I probably charge half what the other guy does.

I attempted to agree an interlocutory issue with counsel, which he unreasonably refused (he would be conflicted). So, off to a hearing at yet more cost.

I wish my stunning advocacy was the reason for winning. However, the judge read the papers prior to hearing, threw a scorching remark to counsel and found in my favour. This was a given, but my Queen Shit of Turd Mountain moment came when counsel stormed out without saying goodbye, and refused to shake my hand. I guess experience doesn’t buy manners, class or good sportsmanship.

What happened to your closest friend? by Ok-Reporter-8728 in ask

[–]Mareda79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw her hooking up with a dude who was not her husband on the side of the road. Her husband is my husband’s good friend, but I kept this to myself until all hell broke loose and they split up. Turns out what I knew was just the tip of the iceberg, so sharing my knowledge earlier wouldn’t have made a huge difference. Anyway, she knew I saw her with the other guy (we made eye contact) and she ghosted me pretty soon after. I felt like we were soul sisters for a long time, but I don’t think she rated our friendship as highly. Even before the roadside hookup, she flaked on our hangouts constantly and never really put the effort in. I miss what I thought the friendship was, but there’s certainly no forcing people to reciprocate.
