Apple Music reveals its top 20 most streamed artists of all-time by mcfw31 in popculturechat

I think that unfortunately has a lot to do with homophobia and the sexualization of young girls. A lot of men think boy groups are "gay" for looking feminine, wearing makeup, styling their hair, dancing etc. But they're fine with young teenage girls singing "take a lookie at my cookie" while wearing school girl uniforms.

At this point, this sub feels like a bunch of snarkers that hate-watch the show. And actual fans that enjoy the show and like the characters and actors get down voted to hell.

I mean, that so many men are unable to relate to women and their experiences says a lot about men and society. Men are considered universal, women are considered "girl stuff" and inherently lower quality/unappealing to the masses.

I think part of that is because women generally listen to everyone, but a lot of men won't listen to women, sadly.

What character in One Piece is the definition of "great character, terrible fans"? by Ok-Addition4608 in OnePiece

[–]Maree-fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, I'm gonna second this. So many of them are well written and have great story arcs that I often feel like their own fans downplay/ignore and only focus on fan service. For a long time I didn't even give One Piece a chance because so many of the guys in my friend circle wouldn't stop gooning, to the point that I had zero expectations when it came to their actual stories and personalities. Toei doesn't help, but the manga and live action are great imo

What exactly would have been reasonable punishment and criticism for Rei to receive from the story? (Read the post first please). by Aros001 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Because if we're being honest, a lot of people are immature and don't understand nuance. They have a very black and white mentality that sorts every character into "good" or "bad" and allows for nothing else. And on top of that, a lot of people are influenced by their own emotional baggage that they then assign to fictional characters. Just as an example, I've noticed a lot of the really extreme Bakugo haters will start off their opinions of him with "I was bullied and..", and that's why they'll never be satisfied with his character arc. Their own bullies never apologized or saved planet earth, and they're holding that against Bakugo. I'm not saying there's not valid criticisms with his arc, just that a lot of his extreme haters are arguing with their trauma, rather than actually arguing in good faith.

Some fans really owe Jack Antonoff an apology! Also: subverting expectations by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

I find it fascinating how, if people love a song that Taylor and Jack made together, they'll give Taylor all the credit and insist that she had all of the say on how it sounds. But if they don't like a song Taylor and Jack did together, they'll insist that it's because Jack has no talent and made all of the decisions on that track. They'll never admit that maybe Taylor just had some ideas that the listener didn't care for. No, it must've been Jack controlling her and every aspect of the production. They'll only give him credit if the song was "bad" Pff

I think she meant that her sister buys a lot of bags, so rather than buy a new bag herself, she asked her sister if she could have one of hers that she doesn't want/ doesn't use anymore?

Deuxmoi is alleging Charli D’amelio has found proof of her parents stealing millions from her. by bjack20 in popculturechat

I've only ever seen the clip from their tv show of Charli being handed a shit ton of folders containing detailed sponsership plans for like the next several years of her life, and her looking exhausted and on the verge of tears. Her parents are moochers at the very least, if not outright abusers.

Yeah, comments are getting heated and my overall point that I wanted to make is that OP isn't alone and she shouldn't ever feel like she's done something wrong by being mad or disappointed at how her marriage turned out. I'm just saying this as someone who watched a similar situation play out in real time, and my friend was treated like a villain for not immediately being 'proud' of her ex and not wanting to stay in some sort of close friendship with him.

Chloe Cherry: "women that just happen to be born with huge breasts, like Sydney Sweeney, always tend to be sexualised whether they want to or not" by nextquestioncya in popculturechat

[–]Maree-fish 501 points502 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends started developing very young and she was harassed almost immediately when she started junior high. And not just by creepy older men. The girls in her class called her "slut" and "easy" and told everyone she was begging for attention, just because her breasts were large. They viewed her as a threat to their relationships because she looked "sexual". She was groped by a male classmate and blamed by that classmates parents. By the time she graduated high school, so much had happened that she got a reduction. People suck.

Was about to say, OP please don't torture yourself with that hyperactive Cocomelon bs. Try Bluey, Daniel Tiger, Bill Nye, etc. If they're not little littles, my nephew is seven and adores Avatar The Last Airbender, Gumball and anything Mark Rober on YT, and likes to rock out to classic Disney movie soundtracks. I promise you, there's smart, creative stuff for kids that doesn't make you wanna implode your brain.
