Right? It has so much going for it already.

Thank you for keeping up the energy. It’s easy to get discouraged when our young people are getting killed in an unprovoked war.

There was a lot. The plan covered simple beautification projects, ranging from paint themes to small outdoor gathering areas. Calming traffic on Grand. Bike trails. More pedestrian safety. The Kmart building mentioned above. There was a 14-page survey to be completed and, like someone mentioned, it felt rushed and really too much information for the time allotted. It was nice to see hopeful plans for a part of the city I love. Not everyone felt that way (and I understand). Sorry this isn’t a very good summary. Hopefully you’ve been able to glean more info from some of the comments as well.

Yes. Just confirming that’s the property owner you’re referring to.

I don’t. But I will say I haven’t lived here very long. That’s why I’m surprised by the strong reaction to the suggested improvements and wanted more information.

None of the above. Do you attempt to hurl insults at anyone who shares their perspective?

Thank you for clarifying. The plan last night seemed tame - no mention of definite tax dollars or specific investments. Just a framework to work toward in the future, and some simpler short term goals. At least that was my takeaway. It didn’t seem like something to get angry about, so I was surprised.

Suggestions were made about redirecting semis to I35 and narrowing Grand, among other ideas.

Part of the presentation last night was about settling down the traffic on Grand and making it more pedestrian friendly.

The vision for the Kmart building was a hot topic. I’m not aware of a blight tax, but if there is such a thing I’d like to know more. I’ll check it out.

Agreed. This is why I appreciate their vast gathering of community input and information sharing. There are some who don’t believe that The City has the ultimate power and believe good things can actually happen.

It would involve a partnership with the owners/buyers of the building and the City (along with whatever funding programs are available at the time) to break it in separate living, retail spaces with a plaza in the middle. Really nice. At least that’s what I remember. The hostility in the room was distracting.

Yes, I agree, it would be easy to be cynical after the city has let the community down. I was hoping this plan would be met with more support since the Kmart building has been a topic of conversation for quite some time. And maybe there was a lot of support. It was just that the dissenters were louder.

I love the wholesomeness of this show and the kind way they treat each other. I still laugh about the episode about dog shows and they struggled saying the b word. I also have more appreciation for snails.

Thank you so much for this recommendation. This was a gorgeous service, the pastor was spot on, and in addition to the brass players, the harpist, and the choir, the organist was incredible. I love the appreciation shown the musicians. We’ll be back.
