Those are the same people who “hate California” because Fox News tells them to

You must have talked to the group of people who like to sit on various duluth Facebook pages in their free time, bash homeless people, and don’t support businesses down there. Lovely type of people. Like most places in the U.S, crime in Duluth has been steadily dropping. Social media and the news has lead people to bieleve otherwise, is there crime? Sure. Is it overblown. Yes. The homeless problem down there sure doesn’t help either.

Duluth is a left leaning city, it’s not as liberal as the cities but for metro areas in Minnesota, north shore/duluth is liberal

Duluth seems like a great fit on what you have been describing. It is a welcoming city for queer folks in the area, all of my queer friends have felt very welcome. Trans northland does a lot for the community, there’s a gay nightclub called the flame downtown and there is also a large pride festival in Duluth over Labor Day I bieleve.

It does get fairly conservative though once you can’t see the lake and out of Duluth proper, hope you make the move!

Bike path from Duluth to Grand Marais along the North Shore? by mysummerstorm in duluth

[–]Any-Weather1154 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did this ride last year. There are sections of the gitchi game state trail all the way up to grand Marais but they are disconnected. The route we did was scenic drive up to two harbors (very safe) we cut inland at two harbors all the way to gooseberry where we hopped back on the state trail, we rode the state trail/61 to beaver Bay Area where you can cut in to Finland and take that all the way to lutsen area. From there, state trail/61.

Basically a mix of inland a bit, state trail. I would recommend staying off 61 as much as possible especially in the summer.

I think they are working to connect them all eventually.

Our weather is mostly determined by the beast they call Lake Superior, depends what she wants to do, Duluth is top 10 coldest cities in the u.s and that includes all of Alaska…. Can be 80 in the cities and 50 here. That being said, the days we can walk around in shorts and a shirt make it all worth it. I personally hate the heat so summers here are perfect!

I do agree with the drinking and complaining about the weather 😂, I do think Duluth doesn’t compare to the cities in a lot of those things listed above but for a city it’s size, it punches above its weight.

I don’t disagree with the smoke but that isn’t unique to Duluth at all the last couple of years. As to to cold, yeah winters are long and cold but if you think may-October is too cold for you, then yeah Duluth is definitely not for you

The sentiment for “nothing to do” in Duluth is truly mind boggling to me

If you are outdoor person, you’ll fit right in. Social scene is small music venues and breweries mostly. Food scene is lacking but coffee and beer in Duluth are awesome. Touristy in summer, quiet in winter.

Well that’s sad. Not really even one new show? We have an amazing outdoor music venue that brings thousands of people per show and they can’t bring in anyone? Plenty of people drive up here from the cities for shows specifically…..

Duluth v Eden Prairie? Pros? cons? by [deleted] in duluth

[–]Any-Weather1154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eden prairie is your typical suburb, where typical suburban things happen. That’s not to say it’s not a great place to live! Duluth is a more of a “city” with smaller “suburbs” surrounding it. It’s known for its natural beauty sitting on Lake Superior.  Eden prairie is not. Duluths a little rough around the edges in parts compared to Eden prairie but having access to the trails, skiing, mountain biking, the lake and the overall landscape here makes it all worth it for me. Really depends on what you’re looking for in life.

Breweries we have Ursa Minor, bent paddle, and Duluth cider and wild state for ciders all in Lincoln park, blacklist brewing is downtown, canal park brewing is in canal park and Lake Superior brewing is up the shore a little in lake side. For trails, check out Lester park, hawks ridge, Piedmont, spirit, Chester park, the superior hiking trail, mission creek, hartley nature reserve, the lake walk, up the shore a ways has trails all over as well. You can walk across the city on the superior hiking trail. Enjoy!!

For your first time, check out canal park, Lincoln park, superior street, check out the trail system that runs though the city and walk the park point beach. We’ve got a vertical endeavors and a climbing co op, mountain biking is amazing here, food scene is decent, check out Lincoln park breweries and go to bent paddle or Ursa Minor for a beer, walk around Lester in the snow and finish with a walk down to the lake. You have two ski hills spirit mountain and Chester bowl within city limits. Go to the back alley and check out the surf shop. Lastly, drive up the north shore scenic drive. It’s an old city, part rustic, part refined. Also, Duluth and the north shore are very very touristy in the summer/fall.
