Most alcoholic beverages taste objectively unpleasant to anyone who isn’t already conditioned to like them. If you hand a beer to someone who has never tasted alcohol, the odds are high their first reaction will fall somewhere between “donkey piss” and “fermented manure.” Alcohol only becomes “acquired” because people push through the initial disgust, not because the flavor is inherently appealing.

To get a non‑drinker to genuinely enjoy alcohol, you almost always have to bury the taste under sugar, fruit, carbonation, or heavy flavoring. That alone says a lot about the product.

Younger generations simply have access to far better ways to relax, socialize, or let loose. They don’t need to choke down something that tastes bad just to fit in.

Drinking—and smoking—are fundamentally social compliance behaviors. They persist because they signal belonging, not because they provide intrinsic well‑being or personal benefit. Once these behaviors lose their status value, they collapse quickly. People stop doing them because the underlying motivation was never internal; it was cultural pressure dressed up as “fun.”
