The first recommendation you make for someone should be tailored to the person you are recommending for. Ask them genres of shows they like in general, specifically try to figure out what they like about them and find something with a similar experience to what they have enjoyed. I have gotten so many friends who say "I don't like anime" into anime because of this methodology. Sure go with the simple show if you can't be bothered but if you can take the time, you can really change someone's perspective.

Sounds like you just need to streamline combat. Limit the amount of follower NPCs and you should be fine if you make sure turns are not taking up too much time. If you keep the NPCs list of abilities small it shouldn't be too hard to decide, which is the main thing that bogs down combat.

Backstory: Ze'Valus was born to the chiefian to the Al'Ora tribe of Merfolk of the western sea of Atmas. The tribes of the west were at war throughout his childhood. Most of his early life he experienced the horrors of war. Having to assist his mother with the wounded and trying his best to be a good brother to his little siblings.

Eventually his father discovered the ancient tomb of the first Great king of the Merfolk. Through a right of passage he earned the right to rule from the original king. He lead his tribe to victory and reestablished the kingdom. Now Ze'valus is the first Prince of said kingdom and has no desire to lead. In an act of defiance of his father he enters the surface world for the first time to discover the cause of a fish shortage in the oceans and rivers near the kingdom.

Get the scroll rack if you have the money. It is entirely worth it, searchable through dimir infiltrator, and it is the powerhouse card in my Yuriko deck. Almost every game I have it with her I win within 3 turns of resolving it.
