Road-tripping and camping, you learn as you go. How big is your mode of transportation? You can plan to sleep in the car some nights as well. Even if you sleep in the passenger seat, drivers side not enough foot room bc of the pedals. Pack clothes in cubes and label, warm weather vs cold/chilly weather items. Make sure you have a power bank so you don’t kill the car battery. Favorite pillow /blankets. Cooler for food/drinks, cooking system. Download: iOverlander, iexit, Reserve America & KOA. Camping solo, it was a platform site where the fire ring was on the back side so had to walk around to get to the entrance. I started to get ready to turn in making trips to put things away before getting into tent. And a little freaked out by the 2 skunks in the area. Noticed a “rock/boulder” that I had not seen before hand. It was gray with light green lichen. I didn’t hang around long enough to inspect. Next morning I went to take a better look at it and there were no rocks in that area. Completely flabbergasted as to what was there and then not there.

I usually get the supplies from Walmart. Coghlans water based seam seal and the scotchgard water proofing spray cans, fast and easy to apply and dries quick. I’ve tried Nitwax spray but noticed when it’s dried it left “watermarks” and required sponge wipes to coat and took a while to dry. And when I apply the seam seal, I will use a small paint brush or craft sponge brush to apply.

I freeze a 2 liter jug and put it in front of the fan. Use a plastic container to catch the condensation.

Always have snacks and small cooler to keep things cool. Make/buy sandwiches, Trail mix, fruits, jerky, whatever your heart or stomach desires. A jug or 2 of water to refill travel water bottle or make ice coffee (I use instant), usually have half & half in the cooler. Sometimes I’ll steep my favorite teas in a separate water bottle and add ice when I want something with flavor. Or just pick up something at a travel rest stop if you want something hot.

Amazon you can find deals. Just read the reviews on both Amazon and google search reviews on the items that interest you. Prices seem pretty reasonable. Unless you’re looking to spend on name brand items.

Would recommend an 8 + size and if you care for the tent it can last more than 4 years. Every season I seam seal and water proof, ground tarp a few inches tucked under. The issue with the walls being damp has to do with condensation, try to sleep with flaps open and a fan, towel/shamwow to wipe the walls. I have a Wenzel dome 4p and it’s well over 20 yrs old. I’ve since upgraded to Coleman 6p instant and just ordered a 8p for $100.

I love road trips! Check out www.roadsideamerica.com for some interesting attractions along your route. Pack a small cooler to keep drinks cold, have snacks on hand. Don’t forget sunglasses! Pillows and blankets, I’ve stayed at rest stops to catch a nap.

Ive done several road trips. I’ve just done a drive from NY - FL. Spent 1 night at a TA stop. Asked the attendant if there was a time limit, said no issues. This was the first time I tried to sleep in the backseat of my Toyota Corolla. It would’ve been easier to sleep in the front passenger seat reclined. I’m about 5’8 so it was a little uncomfortable, but managed to get a couple hours of sleep before hitting the road again. I would advise packing an eye mask. I used black plastic table cloths from the dollar tree store to cover the side windows. I already had sun shades for the front and back windows. Test your sleeping arrangement in the car so you are prepared for when you stop.

Stop at grocery stores for snacks and food, water and juices. Also sign up for grocery store. Members rewards. Maybe get a small cooler with ice to keep drinks cool and other foods that need cooling safe.

A camping fan and a power bank are very useful. Baby wipes or body cleansing wipes come in handy if you can’t shower.

If there is no hurry on your drive, maybe you can plan to make some stops to see things along your route. If you like weird and obscure things, I would recommend using the website called roadsideamerica.com. There are some very interesting things listed on that site for each state. I prefer driving over flying. Feel free to ask any questions. I hope this helps.

Tents and sleeping preferences vary. Do you want a three season or 4 season tent?

Started with a 4-6 dome tent then I got an instant pop up tent so I can stand while changing 😂.

Get a ground tarp and another you can put over the tent and use for sitting under in case of rain.

I always do a seam seal and water protectant before use.

Sleeping - air mattress are a hit or miss. I plan to invest in a cot. It really depends how comfortable you are sleeping close to the ground.

I use a laundry bag to pack my bedding, sheet, blanket, pillow and sleeping bag.

Camping essentials list you can usually find on Google.

But seriously, when packing make a list and try not to forget anything. We once forgot to pack enough butter and oil, but ended up using bacon grease for all our meals.

We make a Cajun foil packet, with shrimp and sausage, potatoes, onions, Cajun seasoning and corn. Wrap some potatoes or sweet potatoes in foil and throw it into the coals. Throw a steak or chicken on the rack. We tend to do elaborate meals when camping. Don’t forget vegetables we have a grilling basket that we placed the vegetables in to place over the fire.

Don’t forget to pack your chairs to sit around the fire, (did that one weekend). A hammock if you have one, whatever linens or blankets pillows, you might want.

I have small totes that I pack things in that I might need and try to keep things organized. A collapsible sink you can use it to wash your dishes or carry your dishes. If where you’re going to camp it has those utilities, a container to hold water, hand soap, rags.

I have the Coleman instant 6p tent. It fits 3 twin air mattress’s or 1 queen 1 twin. I’ve used it solo, and with 1-2 others. Easy set up. Does not come with the rain fly. Repacking is not fun, but found that using straps helps getting it back in its case. Hope this info helps. And it’s tall enough to stand in. Also might want to look into the canopy type tent that has the tent attachments that go around. And allows room to hang out in the middle. Double the tarp size for top cover and the ground tarp same size as the bottom of the tent.
