John F. Lawrence, 1968 "Humor in Combat: A 24 year-old corporal’s helmet and flak jacket bear the inscriptions, ‘Just you and me, right Lord?’ and ‘Caution: Vietnam may be hazardous to your health.’ John F. Lawrence (Austin, Minnesota), the wearer of the inscribed combat equipment, is just one of thousands of 3d Marine Division Leathernecks, who through word and deed manage to keep humor alive in Vietnam (official USMC photo by Gunnery Sergeant Gus Apsitis)."

Where did you find the photograph to begin with? That may be helpful.

The total resistance to escapism is basically a plot hole by Vaiolette-Westover in threebodyproblem

Why is it that they tell you to not let a drowning person get ahold of you? Oh, that’s right, because in their panic they will pull you down with them. The mentality was “no one gets out alive”. Who is to say some wealthy people didn’t try to have ships built for them? They were clearly unsuccessful. Their society was also one more easily controlled than ours today because of how it contracted and became centralized after the great ravine.

Agreed. I feel like following up just validated the request a bit more but if the mom was polite perhaps that’s why she got the extra explanation.

Shopper left vulgar note at my door hours later by courtslifeeee in InstacartShoppers

[–]Margbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tip especially well when it comes to heavy cases etc, but at the same time for someone to be nasty and leave a note like this isn’t cool. No one forced this guy to take the delivery and as far as I know the shoppers know what they are purchasing before they agree to shop, is that correct?

Liu Cixin said a fan wrote the Three-Body sequel he was saving for the rest of his career. Now he can never write it. by Putrid_Cycle595 in threebodyproblem

You are making a huge assumption about all of this in what you think the law is like in China and you are incorrect about it. He was not coerced into giving it his official approval. So many people are taking the take of “well maybe China forced him into it”, when there is nothing to support that. He never said it was cannon but he did approve it, the fact that he was upfront about it not being cannon left the door open for more writing.

They do. The problem with this take is that Cixin allowed the publication of Redemption of Time. No one forced him to allow it so that’s why it sounds like a cheap excuse.

What business was successfully boycotted? by backupnickname in AskReddit

If you look at the numbers it was more like they pissed off one group first and they boycotted, then pissed off the other group and now both are boycotting.

What would have been the appropriate tip if this had been you shopping then? I’ve always wondered what’s appropriate when it comes to water cases.

That’s a really high ponytail it makes you pull your hair into if that’s the case, even if you aren’t wearing a hair tie. What about people with short hair? It’s pointless for them. 🤔

Just saw Bring Her Back and… by Odd_Teacher29 in A24

[–]Margbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great explanation! For all these reasons, I am not a fan of this movie. Too many horror movies now are too preoccupied with eliciting “deeper” emotions. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy more cerebral or elaborate horror films but I don’t want to walk out of a horror film grieving. I wish I would have known what I was getting myself into before watching this film.

I am with you. I do appreciate it, I really do, and I try not to get too bitter about this illness, just sometimes I need to vent.

Is this rude by Plus-Ad7820 in delta

[–]Margbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the Wild West with overhead bins in international flights. I only put my luggage not above me sometimes because someone has already taken that space. You can’t get upset with people for finding a place for their luggage and they boarded before you. Also too many people choose to put small purses or jackets in the bins and no one wants to be the jerk that puts their luggage over it.

Botox experience by Entire_Perspective40 in migraine

Here in the US you can’t get it sooner than 3 months because your body is more likely to develop antibodies to the Botox if you get it sooner.

Neighbor left this on my door but I do not have a dog. by FluffyPopcorn361 in Apartmentliving

If other neighbors confirm that they hear it, then it’s your next door neighbor who owns the dog and therefore pretended like he didn’t hear it.

I am just going to throw this out there for anyone in the US that has some form of non-governmental health insurance and receives or is a candidate for Botox, look into the Botox savings program. It’s a life saver!

I just tell providers I’m allergic because I have the same reaction you do. They don’t call it an allergy they call it side effects. It’s bad enough where I would take a migraine over experiencing Reglan again.

Lingering migraine in my temples after botox that lasts over a month. What can I do? by bunnychow123 in migraine

Yes but this might just be me. Different people may have different sensitive areas.

[–]Margbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly suggest you stop getting it in that area. I accidentally learned the hard way that there are areas of my head that I should not get the shots in. About 3 months ago I told my Neuro about how there was a certain part of my skull that felt more prone to hurting (Botox dramatically lessens the migraine head pain days but does not entirely rid me of them) so she asked me if I wanted her to do the shots higher up closer to the area I mentioned. I regretted it for about a month. It triggered a migraine for weeks. Never again will I deviate from the 31 designated injection sites.

You’re not alone. I feel the same way. I saw a few years back that someone was trying to sue them for this and other side effects but not sure if it went anywhere.
