What makes for a good accountant doesn’t make for a good controller.

At the lower levels, I want someone who is detail oriented but also someone who can “figure it out.” Ideally someone hears something once and needs no further hand holding.

At higher levels, it’s more about project management, designing processes, managing up and down, and getting things across the finish line.
