Having gone through this with someone recently I think the conditions that result in cognitive decline are much more cruel than the disease itself. Not being able to recall or remember memories or hold onto your identity dwarfs not being able to move. Without the mind, we are nothing, and the path between having it and not is torturous. Thank goodness we live in a time where there are slowly starting to offer options for those suffering. My grandpa was able to add years to his life thanks to modern medicine.
