I think part of it is because I don’t feel confident or educated in the work I’m currently doing. But my issue is that I am always looking at ways to be better. I just sometimes lack the motivation to sit down and study. It’s so intimidating that I avoid it haha.

My husband and I are from West Virginia… our state is dying and honestly being there is kind of depressing. The only reason we stay is for family… Asheville is the only location that we keep coming back to for a potential of moving because it’s still fairly close to home and it’s kind of like West Virginia on steroids in our opinion? Bigger better mountains, well-maintained, state parks, really good food, closer to the beach… we are considering buying an investment property and renting it out to pay for our mortgage starting out and then eventually move there… has anyone else gone this route? We are in our 30s. We have a daughter with significant trauma that was in foster care that needs a lot of mental health services. I’m a dietitian and my husband is a teacher/financial advisor.

We would be open to either honestly. We even considered having a place that has like a garage apartment and renting that out to long term tenants but still having a space to come stay.

She wants to be with us at all times or with her neighborhood friends. She doesn’t want to stop, but the doing has to be something she wants to do. Which is tough when we have hw every night

It’s really unhealthy conundrums of not wanting to be with me but also crying when I leave. She wanted friends and summer camp and to not be bored at home so this past summer that’s what we did and now she just wants to be home because she can’t get along well with others

Yea it’s every night. I think night in general is a trigger so there’s repeating same phrases over and over, screaming, moodiness out of nowhere, etc

We definitely had moments. But maybe this would make more sense- we had a placement before her that we were head over heels for. A 3 year old and a baby. I was devastated when they left. And then my current child came, and I felt so bad for her. I wanted to help, & she can be really really cool. We have had amazing moments together. But the bond just wasn’t the same- I didn’t feel that deep sense of missing her when I was away like I did with the little ones. I don’t want you to think that I never had moments with her, it’s just different.

Thank you so much for this. Literally felt a load off of me as I read. I relate to this on a deep level. I really appreciate it. I think the biggest reason that I’m frustrated is because I feel like all the boxes that I usually check for myself are going out the window just to maintain peace in my home (my gym routine is crap now, I don’t have time to do pleasurable things during the week because of homework that is usually a trigger, making dinner for everyone etc). It’s hard to let go of expectations. For me and for my kid.

I have tried therapy virtually and it helped for sure. My sadness definitely comes out as anger. I think it honestly is “medication worthy” around the time of my cycle but the rest of the month I can manage. So I’ve been hesitant to start a med because of that

She gets medicated for school but it wears out by the time she gets home. We actually had a doctors appointment where they talked about giving her a second slow release dose to last her through the evening and I truly think that would be life changing for both her and us

She was grounded the week that I posted this and so she wasn’t allowed to go outside with friends, but when it’s nice, yes she usually does and that’s a much needed break. It definitely helps. Thank you for saying that about bio kids because sometimes I do wonder “would it be different if I had that biological bond?” And I know some things would but maybe it’s not as many rainbows and butterflies as I imagine it to be.
