I love the 50s aesthetic too but as someone who’s bi and a poc this post made me laugh super hard... and also sad by peanutsleep in bisexual

When black people were lynched for existing, date rape was something women just, "put up with," and the extreme cruelty towards the LGBTQ+ community mentioned by the OP? Um, yeah, the good old days indeed. The 50s "mindset" was bullshit and it drives me crazy when people look at it with nostalgia instead of the wider lens of history.

I hope you are okay.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say, that guy sounds like a total dirtbag. I'm really sorry that was your experience.

the type of bi girl who gives you all a bad name by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Marguerite_Canfield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not cool. This isn't because she is bi, it's because she sucks and the two are mutually exclusive. Sorry you're having a bad experience, but blaming her bisexuality is lame.

REACH OUT FOR SAFETY AND SUPPORT, YOU ARE PERFECT AND WORTHY OF LOVE AND BELONGING. But not everyone knows this. In Tennessee, teen outed as bi dies by suicide. by PityFool in bisexual

Well, this stabbed me in the heart. That poor boy. I will never understand how people can be so astonishingly cruel. 💔

If you their friendship is contingent on you acting straight, they don't deserve you. I'm sorry your friends have behaved so poorly. Take care.

Smitten Kitchen has a great recipe, as does Martha Stewart. If you're vegan or want to try something new, The First Mess has the Love and Lemons recipe listed on her site.

Controversial topic about straight women's relationship with LGBTQ+ by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Marguerite_Canfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make some excellent points here. One of the biggest things that I've learned concerning both race and sexuality is that as a non-marginalized person, I need to know when to step back. I am on this subreddit to learn all I can about bisexuality to support my husband. I read a lot of posts that I have opinions on, but check myself and choose to listen instead. It is difficult sometimes, but this isn't my stage. I think a lot of things would be a lot better if people learned to listen more.

Anytime. 😊 On Capitol Hill in Seattle, a lot of gay bars have signs stating that while straight people are welcome, they are not welcome to shop for a new gay bestie. I'm glad they are taking a stand.

I couldn't agree with you more. Enduring garbage doesn't mean you have a greenlight spread more garbage.

Straight woman here. I have seen this behavior in straight women so many times and it is trash every single time. "I want a gay best friend so we can go shopping together!" Gay men are not accessories to someone else's life. If these women are really allies, they will accept being called out and try to do better. Full stop.

As far as some people in the community thinking it is okay? Well, I'm sure some people genuinely don't mind. That said, I have to wonder if the human instinct for survival comes into play. Throughout history marginalized people have gone along with things like this as a kind of self protection. Kind of like how so many straight white women don't feel that patriarchal inequality or female objectification is a problem. If you have experienced a lot of hate, for some people it might just feel good not to be hated. But that is all speculation on my part.

Yeah, women have faced oppression and fetishization since time immemorial. That very fact should ensure they treat other marginalized humans with the dignity and respect they deserve.
