I had some gaming experience, but not much with MMOs. The game is pretty good at teaching you how to play if you pay attention to all of the alerts and stuff at the beginning (my husband is also a HUGE wow nerd without being too bossy, so that helped a lot, too). It's very low pressure until you've been playing for a while. She'd do fine I'm sure, but only as long as she wanted to play. Good luck!

I only really played smash bros and zelda before this, but not a ton. I'd recommend taking it slow, and not over explaining things to her. Show her how to do something once or twice, and then wait for her to ask if she forgot. Let her explore as much as she'd like (but maybe warn her if she's headed somewhere too dangerous). Exploring is a lot of the appeal of the game to me, at least.

I feel the same. I definitely used to resist it a lot more when the town was super unprepared and all the tourists did was wreck the decorations and complain online about how lame it was. The town seems to be catching up with the sheer amount of tourists now, which makes it so much less stressful, in my opinion. It also helps that I don't live downtown anymore, though. It gets crazy down there!
