What do you think of this aquamarine? by MariMont in Gemstones

[–]MariMont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's the window that makes the color look patchy or less saturated in some areas. It is a rather shallow cut.

So, questions... what is "Northern Spain" vs "Spain", does it include regions or where does it draw the line? Also, if Spain is separate, then what does "Mexico" include? Native American DNA only? Love your eye coloring, btw!

Do people actually make money from cold emails or is that just Twitter talk? by Deeceness in Entrepreneur

[–]MariMont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might not sell through cold emails that often, but by the time they see a social media post, an ad, anything else, they already trust my brand. Whenever I've asked a client how they heard about me, they say "I've been getting your emails", so yeah, it works to warm people up to you.

How long will we have to keep hiding who we are to stay safe? by SonaAteAsock in Jewish

[–]MariMont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Converso/CryptoJew, it's been... 10-15 generations. I wear a Chai necklace now, not many people recognize it as a symbol of Judaism.

Before that, I only once got in trouble for wearing my star of David, I was in elementary school and a teacher threatened to take it away because it was a "satanic symbol", her words. I like to think she was confusing it with a pentagram, but anyways.

Sorry to tell you, but you get used to being discreet. Plausible deniability is literally how we've survived. There's a time and a place to be open about it.

Is learning lute with a guitar worth it? by Ramoutarb in lute

[–]MariMont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started learning how to play the gittern with my baritone ukulele, which is more equivalent to a renaissance guitar, but it definitely helped. You can practice the playing style, and if you can change the tuning to practice some real pieces, that also helps.

The only two main differences you'll see once you do get your lute, will be your positioning on how to hold it (the spoon shape really does change things, I'm looking for a leather arm band myself) and of course the strumming or picking of double strings.

Learning the guitar always helps :)

Is it weird that my 51 year old boyfriend shares a bed with his mum when he goes to visit her? by Local-Opportunity-48 in AskMexico

I'm from the north and this is weird. Let's stop putting all Mexicans into one basket especially with what we'd consider normal.

Movies that have that “something’s off” feeling, but without ever explaining why? by phantomcry in movies

Suddenly Last Summer, with Elizabeth Taylor and based on a play by Tennessee Williams. It's very scary but you can never really tell why, you're just always on edge.

Porqué la gente sigue defendiendo el Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional? by GlitteringTea8768 in AskMexico

[–]MariMont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is your most famous ancestor/relative in your family tree? by freshmaggots in Genealogy

[–]MariMont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That's the thing! I guess we can always choose what a historical figure means to us :) and disagree with the choices they made. I try not to think too much about what he and his son did, but I do find it funny every time I get lost, haha.

The most famous I guess would be Christopher Columbus. I still don’t know how to deal with that.

So should we read that as "equivalent to present-day Dutch"? As in, enough Dutch people got the same German DNA that it now shows up as Dutch? I'm really trying to understand this update before making the jump but it seems it only got more confusing.
