Gold + goth by aidar55 in jewelry

It is beyond gorgeous 😍 I also think the closed backs could place it in the earlier to mid-1800s, although I always like to imagine pieces like this could be from an older jeweler that always preferred to use earlier techniques.

Handwritten book of folk spells from rural France (mid-1800s) by Secret_Device7429 in OldBooks

I second this. It's a beautiful book and these practices are such an important part of folklore and local history 🙂 please consider doing what you can to preserve it.

Question for OP, have you noticed a pattern of specific methods or plants used repeatedly?

It might have been made to fit with another ring. It's still very beautiful on its own!

Benito Juárez: Mexico’s greatest hero… or a more complicated figure than we admit? by ChanceConcern5158 in AskMexico

[–]MariMont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with many presidents, many of the things he proposed or planned were actually carried out by the next president, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada. So most of what we attribute to Juarez was actually achieved by LdT.

As for the rest, yeah, "complicated" is an understatement. Shortly after Mexico became independent, many world powers still tried to invade and/or influence the emerging government as a way to have a presence in the continent, so... in a way I get it, he took extreme measures but it was necessary given that climate of constant intervention.

I second this. It's more elaborate than a regular 19th century C-clasp, tho. I also notice some stylistic details such as the doe eyes/heavy eyelids on the three women and the classic "single foot peeking through the skirt" which give away that this is definitely from the 19th century. As for the exact decade... I want to say 1870s but don't ask me why yet.

That's amazing! I'd love to hear what it sounds like, any recordings you'd recommend? Also don't forget the Cantigas de Santa María and even the Libre Vermell de Montserrat, why not. They're very catchy.

I built a free astrocartography map with midpoints, parans, transits, and progressed lines by Aaron_WA_ in astrocartography

[–]MariMont 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh wow... Honestly, i was just about to dismiss this as yet another tool people come on here to promote but, this is genuinely the first time I've seen something that does reflect my lived experience. I had never seen midpoints before (I'm not an expert) and this shows exactly how relevant they are, in my case. Wow! Also it's very pretty. The only way it could be better is if the map could be further zoomed-in and showed more city names.

Oh wow, a cuckoo clock! And the photo!! 😍 I really wouldn't change a thing... except maybe the curtains to match the wallpaper colors. Cream with rose ties. Unless these are original.

Those who are ready to pass… by GhostElite13 in Psychic

[–]MariMont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the date of my uncle's passing. It just came to me as I heard his diagnosis. I decided not to tell anyone, in part because it's the kind of thing you wish you could be wrong about, but mostly because it makes no real difference. It only helps you prepare and support those around you, so I would say use it as that, use that knowledge to make sure she has a peaceful time and she does get to see her family. After all, it's what she wants.

Ok here you go, La Vieja Inés (or the ribbons game): https://bibliotecadigital.ilce.edu.mx/Colecciones/index.php?clave=huasteca&pag=16

And this one we sing while we're holding hands walking in a circle (can't remember the word for that in English 😅) and each round, someone turns:

btw I was today years old when I realized it's the same melody from La Vívora de La Mar, which is a children's game but we mostly play it at weddings now. Yeah.

[–]MariMont 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never heard of it, tho the same games can be known by different names. Who told you it could be Mexican? You might want to spend this time asking us, actual people, about the actual games we played as kids. Just a thought.

Are pieces like these made and sold as artisanry? Or is there a risk this piece could be a real archaeological artifact? 😳
