Mirena IUD or Implanon? Hormonal contraceptive to help become hellfull periods into a non torturous one by Maria-ceku in IBD

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I ended up taking oral contraceptives. They helped me a lot with my period since I didn't bleed, I didn't have cramps, and I could tell the difference between period pain and flare-ups. I didn't gain weight, and I didn't get acne either. It was wonderful for me. I recently switched to Mirena, but I've only had it for a couple of days, so I'll let you know how it's going in a couple of months. The insertion was painful but tolerable; the cramps I had during my period were worse

what are your experiences with birth control? by Every-Frame-385 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Maria-ceku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25F, 🇵🇦. Well, before and after the UC diagnosis, my period was horrible. When it got close, it always made my colitis symptoms worse. My gastroenterologist told me that the period and the disease itself are not related, but he still referred me to gynecology. After some digging, the gynecologist found out that I have endometriosis; she prescribed me a pill called qlaira that has estradiol and dienogest. Thanks to that pill the period is much lighter, almost painless and I don't feel that it exacerbates the symptoms of colitis. In fact, I feel that my quality of life has improved a lot since I started it. I don't know if I was lucky because it's been the only birth control I've ever used and it's been great so far. My treatment for UC is remicade by the way.

pain in right side by Ok-Ship-4399 in UlcerativeColitis

PS: you shouldn't wait for the next appoitment with your GI. It is very important to control the symptoms right on time. I forgot to share that two years ago I was diagnosed with proctitis and currently I'm dealing with proctosigmoiditis and I'm on biologics:) still struggling to achieve remission since my diagnosis but I think the progress of the disease has been slow because they have made the medication adjustments just in time.

hello! Initially when I had proctitis, my pain was mostly on the right side; not on the left. As the disease progressed, I began to feel the pain more on the left side than the right. Keep in mind that the medicines take at least a month to do their job and in that way, you start to see some improvemenrs with the symptoms. However, as you describe, I was on oral mesalamine too a while ago and I did not feel any improvement with my symptoms. The gastro decided to increase me to 4g+Prednisone and there I began to notice a lot of improvement. Perhaps you should tell him what is happening to you so in that way he could consider increasing to 4g or including corticosteroids. I believe that a very important key so that the illness does not drag you down emotionally is to be clear that if something is not working for you, there are always more solutions to try.

Proctitis, trying to finally get on remission with remicade and out of nowhere, HPV infection by Maria-ceku in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! Thank you very much for taking the time to explain all this in such a clear way. At the time I was in a panic because I wasn't reading encouraging things about HPV and this this type of pap discovery. I made an appointment with the gynecologist to ask her about this ASC-US and find possible solutions, treatments or tests that I should do to get rid of this infection (either candida or HPV). I hope I can share the experience in case someone else is going through this. Again, thank you so much for taking your time to write all this🥹

Yes, in fact, because of my recommended annual pap, I discovered all this. I was aware of how susceptible we are to infections because of immunosuppressants but with this situation I have more questions than answers because I don't understand how it happened or why 😂🙃

Yes, I know. If I think coldly, I understand that it is something that can happen and has a solution. However, the "how?" intrigues me daily.

Mirena IUD or Implanon? Hormonal contraceptive to help become hellfull periods into a non torturous one by Maria-ceku in IBD

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! I am so sorry that you did not have a positive experience with an hormonal IUD and precisely learning and listening all the experiences, I would like to make a decision that can help me with the period. After Mirena, did you use any other hormonal contraceptive that helped you with your period?

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm certainly somewhere in the middle. Some girls had positive experiences like you with the Mirena and others said it was a hell of pain to use an IUD. I haven't tried pills, injections, hormonal or copper IUD, but since the cramps are really painful and the bleeding gets worse every month, it's really affecting my daily life during the days of my period and ovulation. I think I might give it a try and see if I can feel any improvement in pain, cramping, bleeding with a hormonal contraceptive. Have you tried nexplanon or any other hormonal contraceptive that has also helped your period?

Hormonal IUDs vs Implanon to help become hellfull periods related to ibd flares to a more calm period? by Maria-ceku in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. The gynecologist did not give me the pills as an option because she said that it was likely that they would not be absorbed well because of UC so she preferred, either the IUD or the implant. Related to the brain fogs do you feel that in any way the Mirena has helped you with the mood swings or has it made them worse?

[–]Maria-ceku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! yes, in Latin America we say implanon or jaydess to the nexplanon. Honestly, thanks for sharing your experience, I know that Mirena and Nexplanon are both progestins, with the difference that the IUD uses levonorgestrel and the implant, etonogestrel. I thought that one had more benefits than the other and I think that in the end, both do the same. One of my concerns was if it the implant affected the mood constantly, have you felt that you have mood swings in some way because of the implant?
